Use butyl tape on the back side. We use it on RV installations when something needs to be watertight. Sometime use dicor sealant to create a fillet seal.
im new to this truck i bought a 98 LMTV with 13k miles. going throught it with help from someone who builds them , but hes in another state. so im stuck figuring it out. i love this truck cant wait t drive it, just ordered a drag link and pitman arm then a wheel alignment . putting in a ctis system and the air dyer which was missing
Hello from Washington... I really like your little tricks with the magnets and the door mounted courtesy lights. Are the lights activated when the door opens and off when shut?
That’s correct, they always have 12v running to them and the pin in the door is the ground. When you open the door the door light and the overhead lights have a completed circuit. Check out the blog for more detail.
Registering it is a PITA, you have to go to a government office so they can verify it's roadworthy, vin verification at another place, and an emissions test at a place that accepts all wheel drive commercial vehicles. It was towed on a semi to my house.
Well you don’t get it titled here at all. Check out Dirt Legal and you can get it titled in another state fairly easy and avoid getting yearly emissions tests.
@@mrb9642 it’s a long story but CO passed legislation while I had my truck… so I had to resort to Dirt Legal. I ended up with Vermont plates. Check out builtmfg.com for the entire rundown.
@@builtmfg Looking back on it now would you have still bought an auction one versus buying from a private sale or dealer type setup? Especially considering all the work you've put into it.

How'd you come out with the A/C? ya seem kinda anal about mud flaps & sound deadening, as far as marker lights, GOOP is fast, cheap and works. Don't worry about shit like wheel seals, hydraulics or air seperator, the family volvo will be fine down range, hey what about a blu-tooth & some usb jacks? ..........Mall Crawler stay on the pavement
AC came out great but cost me a grip since I don't have the skills to install something like that without making more work for somebody else. I'm a designer so some of the intricacies do drive me crazy it is what it is... but the sound deadening was well worth the effort. The deadening was also to show what kind of effort it takes to be able to talk to the person next to you. The idea was the truck still needed to travel over long distances, you're looking at 90/10 pavement to gravel.... call it what you will

For sealing lights to body and lenses to lights, use butyl and warm it up before installation.
If I wasn't going to paint it in the near future I would... but I need it to be removable without clean up for the time being.
Hello from Oregon! :D
Silicon works really well, for marker lights
Yeah the objective was to make them come off and on without a glue
Anymore updates? Looking to get one of these one day and liking the contents. Keep it up!

Where did you get the round sun/moon roof? That's awesome!
There is a place in Denver called plasticare, the moonroof is 1/2 smoked acrylic. There is a write-up on builtmfg.com
@@builtmfg Nice blog. Thanks for the link and the info!
@@builtmfg do you know how to turn on the amber warning light on top ? Aka the whoppie light?
@@stevenmajicmike should be on your dash. I replaced that switch with a new switch for the headlights/running lights
Great project. Did you have any trouble registering it? and how did you get it home before registering? Thanks for sharing on the channel and blog.

Eric, was it hard to title and register in CO? We have that law about ex military vehicles …….

@@builtmfg OK, so you title it in say Utah, but I saw CO plates in your video. I’m planning on getting an LMTV and doing similar to you if I can.

Eric, how did you get it titled and tagged? Also, insurance? Thanks. I just bought one.
Dirtlegal.com for tags, I got insurance through State Farm but there is a thread on insurance on Steel Soldiers.
Hi Eric, I'm curious to know where you got the grill for the truck and are they available for sale?
Manuel Serrano one of the members of Steel Soldiers sold it to me. Check out the forum when you have a chance.
I’ve been thinking of getting an lmtv from govplanet. What’s kind of end result cosmetically are you looking to achieve?
I’m extending the frame 18” and putting something similar to a HiLo camper on the back. I’m going to spray the whole truck with a line-x like material
How much did you end up buying it for? I'm looking at getting one myself.
Mine was 8,500 in auction, then with auction fees and shipping it was around 11k to my door

Isnt this the m1081 and not the 1078?
You are correct. I need to get that fixed.
hi sir this is Keith I have one can't get insurance at all please help thanks have a great night be safe

Hi Keith, I have my insured with Heritage Insurance, they are good with collectibles. Good luck 👍
