    The longer story:
    I had been meaning to do some sort of collaboration video with my friend Brandon and find a way to meaningfully cross promote each others brand. He owns an awesome clothing company (threadsociety.com - I've worn the clothing in countless videos). With his help and generosity, I got out to New York City so we could do a nice video where we help out the homeless and give away clothing (sweaters, beanies, gloves, etc) to keep them warmer since Winter is coming.
    What originally started out as a pretty simple and small concept completely transformed and evolved after we ran into Jaroslav (pronounced: YA-ROH-SLAV). It's really fascinating how people manage to cross paths with one another in these split moments. We could have just as easily not been there at that exact moment and time and day. Decades worth of circumstances in each one of our lives led us to that very moment of meeting.
    I approached Jaroslav but he didn't speak any English. It was me, Scout (filming), Brandon, Michael, and Simona (Brandon's girlfriend). We found out he spoke some Russian, luck would have it that Simona spoke Russian. We bring him a cup of coffee (not shown) and speak with him. He explains to us how he ended up in his predicament and how he was robbed. We express we want to help.
    So we hop in a cab and get him his own hotel room (a nice one!). We let him shower, bring him some pizza, then ask if he wants to get a haircut / shave. We bring him to a barber shop (Chelsea Hair Studio). Let me just say, I think Jaroslav got a better haircut / shave than anyone of us ever have. Well, I've never even had a shave in a barber shop, but I honestly was a little jealous :). If you're in New York City, def. stop by the Chelsea Hair Studio and ask for Mike - you're going to get an A+ cut and shave.
    After that we get Jaroslav back to the hotel. I think it's important to note this, but we offered Jaroslav a beer, and he declined it - stating he doesn't drink. Many people have this notion that the homeless are all drug addicts and alcoholics - but Jaroslav was completely the opposite - I think ANYONE can find themselves with a set of circumstances that lead them to misfortune.
    Anyways, the team go out and plan. We struggle a bit because of some visa issues (he did have a hand-written passport that he got from the Czech consulate after he was robbed) but after some research we find the appropriate flight for him to take (we get him on a flight to Prague)
    We surprise him back at the hotel and tell him we got him a flight back home (he had expressed to us that he wanted to leave and get home - one of the things I found most inspiring, is he didn't EVER ask us for anything - despite his situation, he was honestly one of the most strong and stoic man I've ever had the opportunity of meeting).
    We see a few moments ourselves where he does finally get emotional, but I thought it was more beautiful that we see him entirely composed the entire time and we could see cracks and moments of emotion - versus exuberance and almost exaggerated joy at the smallest thing. I appreciated his resolve.
    What we unfortunately didn't get to film this and include it in the video, is he had a small suitcase with some belongings I imagine he acquired while homeless (the sad thing was that the handle wouldn't retract back into the suitcase as most do - it was stuck). As we were leaving the room to head to the airport, he left EVERYTHING behind (he had no luggage). He told us: "Garbage"...
    At the airport, we bring him and show him where he had to go and give him $100 for any food or anything he needs to buy (long flight back to Europe). We say goodbye. As we left we noticed he kept looking back at us, with a smile on his face.
    Special thanks to:
    Mike & Chelsea Hair Studio

      2 years since the previous message asked the question not 1 person has replied with an answer to his question. Oh and by the way my own pop's whom worked underground in coalmines from the age of 14 until aged 49! Where he suffered a massive heart attack 1.5 miles underground the earth's surface while at the end of a treble shift that's a straight 24 hrs!
      He just finished and saw a newbie struggling to use a shovel to move over a tonne in weight of spilt coal, and my pops took pity and took the shovel and did that lads job for him, then dropped from a heart attack!
      Yet I never once heard my pops complain to anyone including us his family about how hard his job or his life was.
      Oh! And we were left with no income for more than 1 year during the 1984/85 coal miners strike! Like all the other miners and their families
      Prime minister Maggie (who's now sucking coxk in hell) thatchers pre-planned war against miners

    RE: "You did it for the views / money"
    I think we would be happy if we even recoup expenses. This was not a low budget project. Flight for me + filmer to NYC from California and back, 7 day hotel, expenses while there. Jaroslav: Last minute purchase of 1way international flight to Europe from NYC, hotel in NYC, $70 cab ride to JFK airport, $70 cab ride back, new clothes, food, other expenses. Absent this video going very viral, I do not think expenses will be covered. But that doesn't matter, and that isn't important. What is important is the following: On a small scale, we helped this man - and he will pay it forward. On a large scale, we distribute this video to the entire world to see, and if it brings a smile to you, even momentarily - pay it forward.

    It gives me this strange sense of embarrassment when people come to the USA as foreigners and end up getting mistreated, living a nightmare and wanting to go home. It hurts because you know it shatters their idea of what the USA is and why they wanted to come.

      Javier Heisecke I know this stuff happens all over the world. Even worse in some places. This is more about my own experience living in the USA. So many people in other countries fight to come here believing that life will be better, and even if some of them have unrealistic expectations of what the country can offer them, as an American it makes me feel embarrassed that their trip to the USA ends up being one of the worst periods of their life. That is all I meant.

    I'm very touched of what you have done to this homeless man, Jaroslav. You don't have to have a super strength, mind control or any kind of superpowers to be a hero.
    You HELPED a man that needs help, a stranded man in a big city. A man that already lost all his hope to see all his families, to see his son, his daughter.
    While the other people turn their heads away pretended not to see this poor man, all of you choose to stand and gave that man a helping hand.
    I did not see any religion, racial or even nationality differences in this video. All I see is a pure human to human connection with their pure souls.
    I wish for you all the best, and for that man to see his family back. This is how humans are supposed to be. A hero inside everyone's heart.

    Truth is the channel will end up making money instead of losing. Think of it as a celebrity helping out during a disaster. They're only there when cameras see them and they announce how much they donate. In return they get screen time and popularity. Same goes for these guys, they will make triple what they gave this guy easy.

    It's such a terrible fucking world we live in where a group of people helping the less fortunate are seen as exploiting the homeless for their own gains.

    To anyone doubting the motives of the video,
    I have a feeling that this homeless project was inspired by Vitaly's work with Martin. Since then I have seen several videos, including this one, that have seen people working with the homeless and helping them get back into the swing of things. I do not know Vitaly's intentions with the Martin video, nor do I know the motives of any other videos. I only know the motives of this one, as whatever has shared the expenses and other things that had been used to make this video.
    My point here is, regardless of one's motives, it still inspired other people to do it and help a man get his life back together. I think that it is amazing that there are so many people making all of these videos and showing us that a simple or not so simple gesture can truly change a life and it can make US smile! It inspires people to step up and do something, too.
    Thank you whatever, I appreciate you sharing this moment with us all.

    What the fuck is the problem? Why is everyone so ignorant?
    1. They help a homeless person
    2. They record it and post it on RUclips
    3. They get money from RUclips
    4. They can go out and help more homeless people
    5. We continue to be entertained by their videos
    Who the fuck is losing here? I don't understand why so many of you guys are saying they're only doing this for the money...? If they were doing it for the money then they would ONLY make prank videos so that way they don't have to spend $1000+ on flying a homeless person back to the Czech Republic.

    • @HyourouSen
      @HyourouSen 11 лет назад

      I was just wondering how these people like whatever or LAHFT get money from RUclips. I have nothing against this video. just wondering through endorsements?

    • @1337bytes
      @1337bytes 11 лет назад

      Nate Kreysar Have you not noticed the adverts on RUclips videos? When 1,000 people see a video ad, the video creator gets paid around $3 to $20 for the ad. But they do get a bit of additional money from sponsorships some of the time, but most of their income is from the ads that you see on videos.

    • @jesusmunoz6213

    • @evanderep

      macmaster4848 the video creator only gets about 30% though, google gets the rest.

    • @1337bytes
      @1337bytes 11 лет назад

      Evanderep's Animations
      Google takes about 20%, and from what's left over, if the RUclipsr is part of a network, the network takes an additional 30%, but with big RUclipsrs, they take about 5% or 10%.
