The majority of Taiwanese would prefer re-unification. What "Western Media" always ignores that Taiwan has very significant social and economic ties with China - a LOT of Taiwanese have relatives in China, so for them, an improvement in connections would be extremely beneficial. Be also aware that the current "ruling party" were entirely bank-rolled by US based NGOs, and the majority of the votes in the most recent elections went to "pro-reunification" parties.
