Hi Mikey,.. do you still have the ryonet standart cmyk profile, because they now dont provide it on their website
@@ardhysamjaya I don't. It was a link. Just do a search for CMYK screen printing profile and it should be the top link.
@@mikeydesignssilkscreen473 yes,.. i did, and i download the wilflex profile .. i guess i have to use wilflex ink hehehe :D ... Thank You Mikey :)
@@ardhysamjaya Any time! :)
I wish I had seen a video like this 4 years ago. You are the ONLY person to actually not skip steps. Most assume base knowledge during their videos, so several steps are skipped. YOU ROCK.
Thanks, Will T! I'm glad this was helpful.
I like your teaching style. I am so used to using short cuts that I have forgotten the steps required otherwise. I had one of my NEW employees view your video showing the color separations. It worked, they were able to follow along and understand the required steps. They successfully separated a design. THANK YOU!
Imagination Apparel that’s great to hear! I’m glad it helped. Makes these videos worthwhile. I’ve been using short cuts for so long it forget where they drop down menu locations are.
youre the only guy who explains it to the detail. love it!
This was a great vid! I have been wanting to try my hand at CMYK printing. This would be very cost effective for me if I can learn this skill. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Keep up the great work!
I'm glad this was helpful! I really appreciate it!
Thanks, Mickey And Designs. It helps me a lot. 👍😁👍

wow you actually listened to my request, thanks so much you are awesome
You're welcome!
very very good tips Mikey. im starting on this wonderful word of screen printing
Welcome! It's a very rewarding industry to be in to go from design to a finished product.
thanks its a big help for my silk screen process
You're welcome!!!
Hey Matt, another great video. So here is my question, why do you need a RIP, why can't you just the separation films directly out of Illustrator? Can you explain in detain so I can understand what the AccuRips is doing? Thanks
Hi Mikey,
BIG FAN...absolutely loved your tutorials.
I just wanted to ask, when you placed your artwork in illustrator..it had white background (in photoshop too) but not when you printed it out.
Could you please explain.
Thanks
Thanks, I appreciate it. Missed this one somehow, but better late than never.
i dont understand why i would download ryans cmyk when photoshop already has it in there for me, im new at all this and learning as i go. thank you for explaining all the processes, it helps that you continuously speak and not just work and not explain
Thanks! I'm glad you're finding these videos useful.
Thanks for the Video Mikey
Nice one thanks for sharing.
Any time! Thanks for watching.
Got it thank you for the video....
Hi Matt !
Another great and very well explained video! Thanks!
I have a general question about printing colors. There are 2 ways to print halftones colors : CMYK process or simulated process.
What is the benefit of printing with CMYK process instead of simulated process (or inversement)?
In other words, if I want to print a very detailed color picture, how can I know if I have to do it with CMYK process or simulated process?
Which gives the best result compared to the original image?
Thanks a lot !
Thank you!!! Generally, you want to do CMYK on whites, and spot process on dark shirts. Most CMYK inks don't do well on top of an underbase. There is a waterbased CMYK ink that works well on a base. I believe it's called Viral Inks? I'll have to look it up, but for plastisol, whites CMYK, and dark spot process. You can get away with printing CMYK on top of white plastisol ink, but you will need to flash between all colors, or at least every other color to keep the image from losing detail.
Thank you !
Ok so if you have to print an image on a white shirt, you could do it with CMYK or spot process. Imagine that you try both methods, side by side, what result do you think would be closest to the original image?
I don't know Viral inks but maybe you meant Virus Inks. If so, yes these water based inks are really very good for printing on shirts !
Thx again for your answer ;)
That's it, Virus Inks. It all depends on the job. You'll get more consistent results with spot process, even on whites. Just depends on how many colors your press has, but the rule of thumb is CMYK for whites. With spot process on whites, you can overprint colors wet on wet to create new colors. Like yellow and red will make orange...
Thank you again !
I have a 6 colors press so I can do both methods. But I will remember : CMYK only on white shirt !
@@risotoo4564 Try experimenting with CMYK on a white base too. Just flash between colors and use a flattening screen to flatten the fibers down. Works well when 6 colors isn't enough.
the homieee ! putting me on game ty
I have often seen a oversized graphic of a CYMK separation. I’m thinking I could simply blow up all of the layers and work it from there. But I’m also thinking there may be a way to combine that over sized graphic CYMK separation with layers for spot colors. Any advice?
Thanks for the videos. Why did the black parts of your separation print on all 4 films?
Thank you for watching! That would be either because, for example, the registration marks are registration color, and it will print on all 4 films, or the black is a rich black, which will print down all colors making it the deepest black possible. I hope this makes since.
@@mikeydesignssilkscreen473 thanks for the answer. I was referring to your name in the print. It's black lettering and half tones. I'm totally new and trying to learn the processes. I think what you're saying is by printing all the colors below your black will make it a richer color?
@@craigmac4025 You got it! If you print just black, for black text, or any image at that, it will come out about 85 grey, or black. If you print all four colors, it will be a deep black, or what is called Rich Black in the print industry. It's used in process printing on all mediums.
another killer video
Thanks!
Thanks for the video it was extremely helpful, I do have a question tho. How do I get screens for the white also? I have done this to an image I want to print but the picture has a snowy background and My press is a 4 color so I have my cyan, magenta, yellow, and black but don’t I need a white temples to make a screen for white?
You'll definitely need a white screen to print white down on a color shirt, which would require a press that can hold 5 screens.
Thank you for the reply!! So for that image my only option would to be to maybe use a white shirt or cut out the (car) in this case and only print the car itself and no background?
Can I still do this process even without the RIP software?because I dont have enough money to purchase that software.
Hey, Matt i have a question i see you print these film while the image is in color dont you need to turn them black spot color using the swatch color?
Hey Matt--thanks for the awesome videos. I get alot of useful info here! thanks! So today I stepped into the world of 4CP..Eeek!
Question is, I got Ulano TZ per your video and I can barely see what Im washing out on the screen after exposing it. Its all pale yellow/green. Grrrr. So as a result, I cant tell if Im even getting everything rinsed out. Im thinking I mixed it wrong, or underexposed.
Am I not exposing long enough? I have unfiltered UV fluorescents (diy build) and I burned it at 5 minutes...(regular Ulano orange takes like 2 minutes.) Ball park how long is your exposure for Ulano TZ? THANK YOU for any info. -paul
Hey Paul. Any time! Thanks for checking them out. Do you have a backlight when washing out screens? It'll help a lot to make sure you got all the halftones washed out. You should even be able to see the unexposed halftones and what's been washed out and what hasn't. I expose mine for 3:30, but my Ulano orange for 1:15 - 1:30. Are you films really dense? As long as the emulsion is hardening, I don't think you have mixed it wrong. Let me know and I'll do what I can to help over the net.
Thanks for the reply--sorry to not get back to you sooner. Actually, no, its an overhead yellow light (never been a problem before but theis plae emulsion makes it tough!) Ill see if I can install a backlight.I believe the black on the film was dense--hard to see with a halftone dot. Not many large solids anywhere. I might just try something easier next time. Also, I was attempting it without a vacuum frame on the exposure unit.....Im assuming that could very well be part of the problem. Thanks!
No worries! We all keep busy. Maybe try print a solid square or circle and holding it up to the light to see where you are at. Starting out, I used a 500w working light, and it worked well. I did use a piece of glass to sandwich the film to the emulsion and a few weights I placed on top of the glass as well. Was a thick piece of glass. I'm sure you'll figure it out. Takes some trial and error.
i have question, wanted to purchase the emulsion and then i realise its kind of much for me, do emulsions expires if after a period hence wont be good? and also what do you do to your screen after it loose its firmness?
A dual cure will last about 3 months. I get mine remeshed from GSG. They have a program where you give them the frame, and the give you a remeshed screen for about $15.
Hi! I’m using 305 for the first time and struggling with the rinse out. As in none of is rinsing out! Help!! Thanks
Are your films dense? What RIP software are you using. What emulsion?
Hello great explanation of how to do this. But if I have a design that has white how would I separate that in the breakdown and the printed film are they reusable
You would need to select the white in the design and create a spot channel for it.
@@mikeydesignssilkscreen473 sorry to ask questions. So I would create a new channel in the same panel as the cmyk and do a selection with the selection tool and click/select similar
what chemical did you as the emulsion remover? thank you!
hey mikey, where did you get your t shirt platen template for AI ?
Hey Turtle! I created it. I currently have it for free. Search my videos for free t-shirt registration template and you'll find a link in the description to download it free. I hope this helps.
Thank you for that great video !
But I don't find the standard profile you're using. I only find a profile for wilflex inks or for aurora force. I don't use those inks so I don't know what kind of profile I should choose.
Can you help me with this ? Or if you have a link or something else to find the standard profile that would be great ! Thanks
Give those a try and you may have to work on dialing in your CMYK based off of one of those profiles. Looks like the previous profiles are gone.
OK I will try one of those. It's not like I have the choice anyway.
Thank you for your answer ;)
Hey are all of your colors printed at the same angle 22.5?
Absolutely!
Hi what version of photo shop are you using thanks
I'm using Photoshop CC. Think it's version CC 2018.
Would any of the settings in the separation process change for a lower mesh count. Say 230 Mesh.? and is it important to dry the inside of your screen with newspaper? why?
It's not necessary for the paper. I've stopped using paper, but it helps dry them quicker and keeps unexposed emulsion from running in your image area. For 230 mesh, use 45 lpi. I hope this helps!
Which printers are good for this process? Is there any HP printer models that can do that process ?
Any printer that can print dark enough films. You just want to make sure there's little to no light coming through your transparencies.
is it always better to expose for 3 mins ..I have trouble keeping my emulsion together some times
A good diazo emulsion works great at 3 minutes. Photopolymer, not so much. Your dots be hard to washout.
Someone can help how what can i do in my place is to cold and my ink is getting super sticky is any way to make more
Hey Mike, what is that red thing around the edge of the screen?
I'm not sure. I'll have to go and take a look.
Hello my bro can u say what is Paper name and which silk do you use for cmyk
You'll need some transparency film.
Please sir what is name of the chemicals that you spray before cleaning washing the mesh
Ink wash, and emulsion remover.

Hey, Matt awesome video. I have a question when I put the check mark so the info. {CMYK} shows up on my films It doesn't show up. Any ideas?
It doesn't show up on the art board, or the film when you print it out? It will only show up on the film.
Mikey Designs & Silk Screen it doesn't show on the film
Try setting your document to 13 x 18 and printing it on 13 x 19 film. The program places the information outside of your document size.
Mikey Designs & Silk Screen Your the mannnn. What I did was open a new document for example I put 8 x 10.5 size then just put a square image to test out n it work. Nowww I do have my acuurip setup on halftone angle 22.5 & 60 LPI with the check mark on lock screen but the info. print out on can 15 degree & 60 LPI.
Glad that helped! I like to use 55 lip, but if you can hold 60, that's great!
Hello sir . When you select level option for to know black and white color are true, after sample of both colors with color picker tool after this step i do not understand that where it shown that are true colors plz help me . I m also a graphic designer for all kind of garment designs
Hello. You'll just want to click the white dropper and select what should be white to make it completely white, and the same for the black eye dropper, then hit okay. :) I hope this helps. Let me know if I understood the question correctly.
Hi having trouble looking for the CMYK profile, where can i get them?
I'm not sure if it disappeared. Google "CMYK profile screen printing".
Matt is this file still available??? And will it work the same for a Platen size: 17.7″x21.7″ Appreciate you sir learned alot from your videos
Thanks, Patrick! Which file are you looking for?

When I moved my new site design, the link got broken. I'll fix it and repost it.
Ok thanks would i be able to use it with a 17 x 21 platen
LOOKING FOR THE FREE REGISTRATION TEMPLATE YOU MENTIONED IN VIDEO IS THERE A CODE FOR IT? THANKS FOR THE GREAT VIDEO
It was free for a limited time.
where can we download the color profiles?
Can I still do this without the rotationary.. Doing it manually is it okay?
Certainly! As long as you have a 4 color press.
Thanks for the clarification. very helpful indeed
@@jellox1984 You're welcome!
Accurip is really expensive, just checked it out, why is it better than normal Photoshop, and what's the difference between accurip and ryonet separation studio?
AccuRIp and Separation Studio are two different things. BTW, we are a Separation Studio vendor... AccuRip creates half tone dots out of greyscale. Separation Studio is a spot process separation software. In other words, it separates an image into separate colors needed for printing an image.
Mikey Designs & Silk Screen when you mean vendor does that mean you sell at cheaper rate?
Mikey Designs & Silk Screen and are you saying separation studio can't create half tone dots?
It will be the same price, but we get a commission for selling their product, which helps support our RUclips channel and our business.
Separation Studio simply separates complete pixel based art (Photoshop Images). AccuRip software actually turns the separations into dots or half tones.

I wish I had the time and means to.
How would you to go about importing a hand drawing and turning it into a cmky file?
Is the drawing in color? If so, scan it, then convert it from RGB to CMYK in Photoshop.
Yes some would be in color yes.
Thanks for the quick response. Love the videos!
@@maga_q_anon8384 Thank you!
@@maga_q_anon8384 In the case where it would be line drawings and you want to add color, scan them in and use Photoshop to add color. That's a great way. Then change them to RGB. I hope this helps and I'm understanding the question correctly.
can you please add in the description the cmykprofile.zip thanks :D
let me take a look and see if I can find it. I'm not seeing anymore for some reason.
sir need link of cmyk profile download
does it have to be halftoned?
It does because you can't expose a screen with a smooth gradient. The small dots block the light.
very import for me
I can't afford Acu-rip software, and have to work in Photoshop CS6.
W. D. Smith there is a way to use photoshop for half tones but it’s best to use a rip software.
No degreaser ?
I only degrease new screens because the emulsion remover we use has degreaser in it.
why the newspaper at the end ??
We used to use new paper to help dry the screens faster and to help remove excess emulsion.
