In 2016 I made the decision to live the last 1/3 of my life doing what I love and being able to enjoy every summer to its fullest. I was already saving and investing. From that year, I begun saving/investing 65% of my net salary. In late 2019, I left the corporate world and moved to a beautiful Greek island and never looked back. It turned out that it was one of the two best decisions of my life. The other one, was to leave a long-term relationship where I was not appreciated and growing. Folks, our most valuable asset that we have control is our TIME. Last week I was enjoying an amazing sunset and literally broke into tears from joy and gratitude. Wishing everyone the very best!!
I love hearing that!!!! To many people believe that retiring means they won’t do any work anymore, almost like that’s a great thing. Like I said, I don’t think I’ll ever stop working. I just want to work on my terms. I appreciate you! Have a wonderful day!
I deeply regret WASTING 15 years of my life in a job I absolutely hated. What a waste of life. I retired 2 months ago at age 62. I had my critics, but I couldn’t give one f$&k what they think. The mental and physical changes even after only 2 months removed from that hell hole is unbelievable. The thought of ever going back is inconceivable.

I am in my early 60s and retired at 53. Lots of people gave me pushback because they had difficulty grasping the concept of not working if you don’t have to. I looked at my life as stages. I earned everything I have now through a lot of hard work, but I owe it to myself to “stop and smell the roses” in my final stage of life. In my case I left the country after I retired and live in Latin America. It allowed me to get away from all the negative things happening in America while appreciating my new environment. I have yet to meet anyone who regrets retirement.
Congratulations brother!! That’s exactly what I’m talking about. I love to hear the success stories of those ahead of me. I hope more of the younger generation can learn from people like you, instead of playing the part of a victim!✌🏻
Nice way to retire. For me, I believe retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs. Retirement choices determine a lot of things. My wife and I has spent same number of years in the civil service, she is investing through a wealth manager and myself through the 401k. We both still earning towards having our retirement.
This is true. I'm in my mid 40's now. My wife and I were following this same trajectory. Last two years, I pulled out my money and invested with her wealth manager. Not catching up with her profits over the years, but at least I earn more. I'm making money even before retiring, and my retirement fund has grown way more than it would have with just the 401(k). Haha.
I completely agree; I am in my mid 40s, approaching retirement, and have approximately over 2million dollars in external retirement funds. I am debt free and have very little money in retirement funds compared to the total value of my portfolio over the past three years. To be honest, the Fin-advisor can only be neglected, not rejected. Just do your due diligence to identify a fiduciary one.
One of the best things to do especially as an older person whose not ready to be old yet is to grab 2 10 lb weights and start doing basic arm exercises. Then do basic leg squats off of a bed with about 40 lbs to start. Start with about 5 minutes for a few weeks then 10 mins. Then 15. You dont have to lift heavy weights to see great results. You will be surprised.
I’m 51 and retired this October. Ever since I have been walking on the mornings and exercising a few times a week. I finally enjoyed everyday not only weekend. The narrative that makes us keep working so hard is too strong and toxic in US especially in huge tech. Just subscribed your channel as I love your tones over the beautiful background music. Keep up the good work!
Congratulations brother!! I can’t wait till I can stand from a f’you, only a couple more years and I’ll be right beside you! Thank you for the kind words and your support my friend! I appreciate you! Have a wonderful day!
Hey Chad; good info Sir! I pulled the plug at age 43 after 25 years in the military; that was 3 years ago. We've packed up and move across the globe; best thing! As we're able to enjoy our children before they go to college. Life is short; live, laugh, and enjoy! All the best everyone!
Am 43 yo and I just bought a huge house in the mountains in Veracruz Mexico, I have 2 dogs , 2 cats , where I live people is very friendly, there’s plenty of rivers and nature everywhere, services are super cheap, let’s say internet is $10 a month, hydro around $10 every 2 months. Am far from the city Xalapa which is 2 hrs from here and I just go there when need to buy stuff at Costco or whatever I need, I go there once a month and seriously am leaving the dream looks like. At the beginning was boring but then I started to enjoy it, specially there’s no crazy rules and is very calm up here. So, enjoy your life , God bless you
Most of us, really don't start getting motivated to retire until we hit 50. It's a simple fact for most viewers of the video. Keep em coming my friend!
I agree. It almost seems like it all starts when we experience our mid life crisis. When life, and the shit realities we’ve been ignoring our entire life turn real. I appreciate you! Have a wonderful day!
Thank you for today Chad, this is a good reminder that time is not infinite and living with intention and planning ahead is a must for our own sake. Too few people teach us that, how to take care of our future selves too, not just our current ones. Have a great day!
Great advice “Pay Yourself First!” and not just a token amount, put some real effort into it and sacrifice now to be better, healthier and happier later. I came to the realization later than you when I was 48 years old, but I changed my spending habits greatly at that time and as a result, I am retiring in less than 5 months at 56 with comfortably more income than my monthly budget. I am soooo thankful for the efforts of my younger self! Keep up the good work spreading the wisdom with videos like this so that hopefully many other “younger selfs” can clue in and really benefit! 👍
Nice video. I retired at 59, but jumped right into consulting full time. That was great, but at 62 - yep, kidney cancer. Ramping down the consulting, but my attitude about work and stress/reward really changed after cancer. I’m about done. Talking to my kids more about saving and investing now. More information is available about saving than ever before, but 30 year olds aren’t thinking about it. Aim to help change that.
Your content is absolutely evergreen. Stumbled on your channel while researching as I've thought about starting my own RUclips channel. Love your content and delivery. Thanks Brother
And it’s awesome you’ve been here ever since. Start that channel. Keep uploading and learning. You’ll find your stride and eventually connect. You can do it brother! I appreciate you! ✌🏻
@@ChadLisonbee unfortunately fear drives us. But at 55 I know that the experiences of my life can be a voice parallel to what many have had as well. A resounding message that has consistently presented in my life for months now is, " We are not meant to do this alone".
Great talk, Chad. At 62, a lot of it resonates. Time is just flying by now. Fortunately I have a job that I really enjoy. Now I just keep my fingers crossed about staying healthy.
My wonderful stepdad saved, invested and planned for retirement. He was stuck to that hard number of 62. He died at 57 from a progressive form of MS, something he didn’t even know existed before it ruined his life. He was forced to retire early, only to spend the next few years getting worse until he died. He has set up my mom and even us through all of his hard work, but he’ll never get to enjoy it. This hard fact haunts me often. It has shifted the paradigm in my mind. I hope I can honor him in every experience we get to have❤
I’m sorry for your loss! I’m sure he was able to die with a smile, knowing that his loved ones will be taken care of. I know I would. If I was taken off this earth tomorrow, I would know I did the best I can in life and that my family is taken care of!! I appreciate you! Have a wonderful day!
When I was a young man, I rode many motorcycles. Loved it! The last years of that started feeling on me. “It’s just a matter of time” and I stopped loving it. Sold my Ducati and never looked back. Now I’m an older man. Many years working in hospitals. Fortunately many of these in pediatric care, but these past few it’s been adults. Adults my age! Broken. It’s not about lifespan. It’s health span. Just like getting off my motorcycle, I’m now ready to get off my work plan. I do cardio, weights, good nutrition but time is time. I’m no longer doing this until 70. 62 in a few months and I’m off the ride. Before the no-go, before the slow-go, I’m doing the go-go years with my investments. Not fat cash but good enough. 🤟
If people would just take their finances seriously they find out it’s doable with much less than they realize. I laid my old bike down at 70mph, and was fortunate. Only broke my hand and messed up my foot and other muscles on my right side. The gear did its job and save my life and the skin on my ass. lol. I did learn I’m not indestructible and got off the streets bikes. I do still ride dirt, but I’m so terrible at it when I lay my bike down it’s more of dropping the bike. lol. I appreciate you! Have a wonderful day!
I'm 45 years old. I hope by the time I'm 65 -70, I love what I'm doing so much and I'm running my own business that I never want to retire. Warren Buffett is my spirit animal.
I retired at 59. I was going to retire at around 61 or 62 but for my mental and physical health I retired from a job I dedicated 30 yrs of my life. Best decision I made, I'm still in decent shape despite my diabetes and high blood pressure. Im able to de-stress and follow an exercise program. The earlier the better! I agree!
New subscriber. I retired from the military in 2015, worked as a government contractor for eight years, and decided to retire this past October, just shy of being 57. I did not want to be that person who worked till they died. It was the best decision I ever made and trying to teach my Gen Z kids to save and invest so they can do the same. We have to change the paradigm as it pertains to retirement! Great video! 👏🏾👍🏾
I agree brother. I’ve known several contractors that were terrible with their money and got stuck overseas because of the money. Them or mama and the kids at home, blew everything they earned, while over there and got stuck, because they don’t think they can earn the same money at home. I guess the moral of that story is you can’t out earn stupid. lol. Thank you for your service to country and your kindness! Have a wonderful day!
I read all these amazing comments saying they will retire early in life. I started late in the game of preparation... I am looking to retire at 60.... I regret not preparing in my 20s and 30s... oh well, I just have to do what I can do now... no need to focus on the past... but good video Mr. Chad.
I always say never regret, only learn. When we regret we live in the past. You’re started now, and that’s what’s truly important. Thank you for your kindness and time!!! ✌🏻
Can't spend time we don't have chasing money we don't need. If you have enough to eat, have a roof and healthcare, GO. I'm 60 now. Retiring next year after mortgage is paid off. That's the only piece in our financial puzzle that remains. Turning 60 was a real eye-opener. I started having gut problems the same month! Still trying to manage it (IBS). We are already far outliving our ancestors. We are on borrowed time.
I totally agree. I had IBS for years as well. I started carnivore diet a year ago, and haven’t had a single issue since. I appreciate you! Have a wonderful day!
55F here having gut issues. I took a sabbatical last year and now having trouble returning to work. I am a minimalist and every day I look for ideas on how to work 16-20 hours and enjoy life. Life can be short, might as well enjoy my time here.
I’m mid-50’s and will leave my career in 8 months. I think understanding the difference between our lifespan and our health span is really important. Very few people are healthy into their 80’s. Life is short and selling our time for money beyond the point we need to makes no sense.
Awesome advice as always mate. Ive never really lived my life planning for the future. Something that now at 44 i regret. However i am focussing on my later years. Especially finacially and health. Appreciate you man keep smashing these videos out 💪
Never regret, only learn. When we regret we stew on what we think should have happened. When we focus on learning, we won’t make those mistakes again and they’ll propel us into the future! Thank you friend! I appreciate you! Have a wonderful day!
Retired at 48 and can't bring myself back to work. I have 2 life time streams of revenue and all it took to retire comfortably on my retirement is to live within my means. I cut out Starbucks, I prep meals and quit the expensive entertainment. I now do free entertainment like mountain biking, metal detecting along with others.
Hey man, my 45 yo self would have agreed most of your points, and 10 years on much of it would still be true, along with some wisdom gained through experience in the interim. I said 50-55 and got out at 52, and the freedom and free time is awesome (and so much of the stress I wasn’t even super aware of has lifted). If people realised it’s very achievable early enough I’m sure more would benefit, so it’s good you are providing insight.
I’m glad to hear it. It’s terrible to see how many people would rather lie down and accept what they’re being told as gospel. Those people I guess are correct, they will never retire early. 🤷🏼♂️I appreciate you! Have a wonderful day!
@@ChadLisonbee yeah mate, when I turned 52 I told my boss I might have 30 good years left if I’m very lucky and though I could go to 55 that 3 years is probably the best 10% I have left! It’s been great so far, no regrets. Good luck with your channel, if you ever want to ask anything, just do.

I’m still working full-time (at 43) but live my life as though I’ve retired (traveling, doing all the things I want to do etc). My step father is 63 and he’s losing his memory, and his motor functioning. This started about a 2 years ago. He’s declining very quickly. Enjoy your life NOW.

Mid 50's here, and I agree with everything Chad has said. Don't lose yourself while "the machine" attempts to grind you down. For myself I decided to split the difference and have a mindset I implemented at 50 of being semi-retired for the near future. Your 50's is a lucrative time to sell your accrued knowledge and expertise as a consultant or educator. Another suggestion I'd offer is to buy durable goods (cars, electronics, etc) used whenever possible. You'll save quite a bit of wealth to apply towards your retirement investments. This also helps to use all the expected lifespan of products to keep them out of the landfill. Good luck all, hope this helps.
@@sixtyinsix I agree. I drive a cheap commuter, so I can keep my hot rod nice fresh and usable for many years to come. I appreciate you! Have a wonderful day!
Something that younger people may not understand is how "done" they will feel when they are 60. And how those last 5 years of work may be the worst of their lives. Every day is 8 hours you will never get back. Any idea how a retired person can get health insurance between 60 and 65 without bankrupting themselves?
I am currently 29 years old, working a 9-to-5 job. I broke up with my partner because I felt unappreciated for my hard work. Every day I am working overtime, and I can no longer stand working in the corporate world; it’s truly taking a toll on my mental health. I am planning to quit my job when I turn 30. I want to have enough savings to sustain myself for two years while I start my own business. Basically, I am now living for myself. I plan to travel the world and enjoy life.
Anyone born after 1960 in the U.S. now has to work until age 67 in order to get the full benefits. I was intending to become self-employed by age 55, but life and the market dashed that plan. I am 61 now, and I intend to retire next year. I will then try out various part time gigs to earn extra income.
Just got your video recommendation and truly such a beautiful video man. I am glad to watch it and even subscribed. I love your video and what you shared. I am myself 40, even though I started to invest when I was 32. I am glad I did. I may not started as soon as some but I am glad I have a six figure portfolio and continue to invest vi-weekly to retire hopefully also at 50. Awesome work and thanks for sharing dude. Stay humble and blessed. - RM
32 is far ahead of most brother. Sounds like you’re crushing it! Retiring early is something I firmly believe we can all do, but most won’t because they have excuses. Victims.
I agree. We never know! But we still need to live for the future and for right now. It’s a balance and reality we all have to face! I appreciate you! Have a wonderful day!
Fun times to be in, especially as a young person in EU. The government is taking well over half of what I earn (45% flat out and the rest whenever I spend that money) to keep an unsustainable system on life support (pensions, "free" healthcare, social security, etc). While I very well know that I likely won't benefit at all from any of it in 35+ years when I will technically retire, I am still forced to pay all this extra money that would otherwise allow me to afford a modest and decent lifestyle, even though I am relatively frugal. I do try to keep a positive mindset, but I just don't see a light at the end of the tunnel and this makes it hard to stay motivated. Finding a partner who wants to build a life together, starting a family, buying a house/apartment, working on something that is more than a form of supporting corporate greed...all these things feel like a distant dream, if anything. The only good thing I have going for me right now is the fact that in the past couple of years I have managed to develop a rather healthy lifestyle. I go on a difficult hike or long cycle almost every weekend (amazing for mental and physical health), exercise every day, cook 95%+ of my meals from scratch and so on.
Keep choosing the healthy choices, and focus on your. Build your mind and body. Take care of your physical mental and spiritual hygiene. And your charisma will begin to flow. Focus on gratitude because that’s one of the only positive things you can control. If you can’t change it don’t try to, just learn to rise about it. I appreciate you! Have a wonderful day!
Average US male life expectancy was around 48 in 1900. In the 1930s, it was 63. I taught English in fast developing South Korea in the late 1990s, and students told me of their hard working hard partying dad's dropping dead at 52.
I was supposed to be retired at 50 but a long drug out divorce, the plandemic and health issues has me now retired at 56 but considering air bnbing my house. Even though everything is paid for the taxes and insurance are just too expensive to make full retirement feasible. If that doesn’t work I will sell. I am ready for the freedom.
When I’m 65 eggs will be $20 for a dozen. Thankfully I’ve been in crypto for 10+ years and never have to be a wage slave ever again. I feel sorry for who work all their lives for someone who wouldn’t even come to their funeral. It’s a disgusting world we live in.

My mother suffered from dementia for the final decade of her life. She didn't make it out of her 60's. My estranged father lived an unhealthy lifestyle and didn't even make it to 60. Both died when I was a young adult and now have been gone for more than a decade. I take much better care of my health in my younger years. Health is Wealth!
I like my job and like the extra money for big boy toys that I will not be able to afford if I retire too soon. Also if I were to retire right now at age 63 I wouldn’t do that much. I don’t want to travel and I would basically stay at home most of the time and look at the internet, watch videos and play games, and become bored. Each day would be the same basically. Working keeps me in the game of life and motivates me. Not working doesn’t motivate me.

@@ChadLisonbee dont know if this will work for everyone, but allowing my wife to take care of ALL the finances is what did it. Life should be about balance. What's stopping folks enjoying their life now, trying new experiences, hobbies, travelling, finding new connections in their 20's, 30s, 40's, 50's, 60's alongside working? Is it the US work and annual leave culture thats preventing this balance?

One of the best things to do especially as an older person whose not ready to be old yet is to grab 2 10 lb weights and start doing basic arm exercises. Then do basic leg squats off of a bed with about 40 lbs to start. Start with about 5 minutes for a few weeks then 10 mins. Then 15. You dont have to lift heavy weights to see great results. You will be surprised.
Absolutely j everything the gains will compound over time. I appreciate you! Have a wonderful day!

Weight training is the fountain of youth. Most age related physical decline is related to muscle loss.

That’s what I’m talking about! Let’s freakin go man!!! Thank you for your service brother! I appreciate you! Have a wonderful day!
So, enjoy your life , God bless you
Sounds absolutely incredible!! Congratulations brother!! I appreciate you! Have a wonderful day!

I do still ride dirt, but I’m so terrible at it when I lay my bike down it’s more of dropping the bike. lol.

Something that younger people may not understand is how "done" they will feel when they are 60. And how those last 5 years of work may be the worst of their lives. Every day is 8 hours you will never get back.

Anyone born after 1960 in the U.S. now has to work until age 67 in order to get the full benefits. I was intending to become self-employed by age 55, but life and the market dashed that plan.
