The loud music playing as you're walking by all the closed business is hilarious. It's like the band on the Titanic still playing while it sinks🤣
Sad, but still kind of funny.

Hey Jayman! Was just at Puente Hills a few weeks ago and shot some 35mm film all around and throughout the mall. Crazy to see how much history and culture stands abandoned and forgotten all throughout SoCal. Maybe I’ll bump into you someday when I’m shooting at another mall :) stay safe and keep up the great work

I can identify a few of the locations in the mall and what happened to a couple.
At least until 2019 the mall mostly had full store use with the occasional one going out even when the Sears was knocked out.
When 2020 hit it basically destroyed the malls ability to function with full tenants.
The modernization of the mall was to take place in 2020 and the entire project was stalled as the pandemic hit.
The giant empty store you saw was a halloween/costume store that installed itself there shortly after forever 21 left. Was there for a couple years
The Zoot Suit store you saw was a popular store that used to sell suits or themed suits or period suits.
I haven't been there in a while so I don't know if the Ross is still hiding there.

Some malls are full of shoppers and every store is open, while others like this one are mostly abandoned. I wonder if anyone has studied the reasons for the discrepancy between locations.
You would think the movie connection would help the mall, but obviously not.
The mall near me is doing so well they had to build a new section recently and it’s difficult to even find parking.

@@HEYMANWITHJAYMAN I remember in 2007 going to college in Los Angeles. I visited the Puente Hills mall for the first time and there was very little people there. I actually ran into one of my classmates who seemed to be the only one there, lol. Then in 2019 there was traffic, but not as much as for example: Cerritos Mall. Also during that time Westminster Mall was extremely empty but still open I recall.

Round 1 is open late at night but access to the mall get's closed. Also next to Round 1 they built a sport facility type of gaming facility. I remember the Mongolian Barbeque place always skimped on the ice and napkins before Covid closed down the mall. Also the Asian guy at Ono Hawaiin Barbque had 2 missing fingers. I always thought he was ex Yacuza. I believe the Burlington Coat Factory is still open. Not sure if mall access is open in the daytime but at night time you have to enter from outside.

Nice walkthrough. Last time I was here, Baskin-Robbins and that Alpaca Cafe (the wooden-front store next to it) were still open. The Baskin-Robbins had been around since the '90s. I think anyone struggling here is finally jumping ship with the news of the mall purchase. AMC, Round One, and Hai Di Lao are the only places generating foot traffic. And that H&M you looked at closed Jan 2023.

@@HEYMANWITHJAYMAN I haven't been back to the mall since July but I wouldn't be surprised. That food court was lonely. Any remaining tenants are gonna go down like dominos. The funny thing is there is a kiosk in front of Baskin-Robbins and Alpaca that sells Chinese jewelry that's been able to stay open since the mid-2000s. ZERO business. I have no idea how it stays open.
