Step 2. Overlooks the fact that adding fiat to your position will decrease the target multiple to achieve your target.
Eg. If my initial investment is 50k and my target is 1mil
I need a 20x to reach my goal.
If the price doubles and I add another 50k.
Sure that second buy is from a less advantageous position in terms of multiples.
However my new position is $150k or 75k at the initial price.
Dropping the required target multiple to reach 1mil from 20x to 13.33x.
Couple problems.
1. I think it's unreasonable to think that if someone is DCA'ing, that they'll then feel the need to increase their selling price to compensate for the rising average cost basis due to the DCA.
People in general are concerned with with what the price of something will go and aim to sell it there, not to earn some target amount of profit.
Why do people think like this? Well, it goes back to why they are DCA'ing in the first place. The actual best bet when buying is buying early and with a large amount of money. So why are people DCA'ing? Because they either didn't get in early enough, or did get in enough money early enough, which is understandable.
So, I think everyone just implicitly understands the following: I could have had more if I could have bought earlier and with more money. However, I couldn't do that, so now I'll just make as much as I can now, which is the correct way to think.
"Making as much as I can now" is an understanding that they will still need to sell at the same price, not increasing their selling price to compensate for the rising average cost basis due to the DCA.
2. How you described the DCA out is suuuuuper weird.
The point of DCA out is to minimize risk. Technically, the more increments that are weighted the same, the safer, unless the increments to the upside are set at unreasonable prices.
A way to not decrease as much risk but earn a little more profit is to keep the same number of increments, but weigh it so more is sold at the higher increments. The range of prices and the actual increments sold at remain the same, but the quantity sold changes, with more sold on the higher end.
Even with all this said, in Raoul Pal's words, you're mid-curving this.
Buy more early. If you couldn't, then buy now, and continue to "buy now" as "now" changes (DCA). If the price goes lower, buy more than normal.
Understand what a reasonable ATH for your coin will be during this bull run. Not what you "want" the ATH to be, but what will actually happen. Use history as a reference point. Then, sell up to that number, not AT it.
This isn't hard.

Averaging down is the riskiest investing move, especially with speculative assets
People do it mindlessly bc it gives them short term good feelings about lowering their cost basis. It always works until it doesn't.... then youre in REKT CITY
DCA is ok. Averaging down is usually compounding an error
Averaging up with using stops is the most foolproof investing strategy
Buy at 10, put stop at 7. This is your ONLY portion at risk. Build a cushion. Buy more at 15, move up your stop to 12. Congrats, youre now freerolling and risk free
If you buy at 10 and your stop hits at 7. When do you buy back in? 10? Stop at 7? What you said makes sense but only really explains if things go right

Put a buy-stop order in at the potential breakout price. Lets say its 8.50. If it hits 8.50, your buy order will automatically trigger

It’s crazy how many young people without any formal education or training are all experts. I got lucky on the last cycle too, but I’m no expert. I like this guy, but I’m just saying, watch out for mid 20’s no degree “experts” in this market.

You'd still subtract 2% buy and sell fees. Taxed at marginal tax rate on your entire profit when you sell in less than a year.

Lengthening cycle is bs. Four year cycle is bs. Follow the wholistic economics of the markets not made up theories that are outdated. Let me remind you, right after the second peak of the 2020-21 bull market, all the looney’s were saying there’s another year of bull market left because of the lengthening cycle.
