But I have to set the stage as to the best way to listen to your outstanding music performances. Holy Cats! The title to this song is brilliant! And, the content…..goes _beyond_ even that! If this was 20-25 years ago any major record label would have inhaled it and heavy rotation would have ensued on major main stream radio. Just luscious production and execution! You were just born too late, Babe! Best song I’ve heard _anywhere_ in a very, _VERY_ long time! ❤👍. (P.S. - You remind me of Marin Morris).
This recording is very well done as far as the atmospheric blend of tones and chord progression, But it lacks in lyrics and the lyrics tend to run in to dead areas at the start, which in my opinion makes the song lose its rhythm and natural blend with the chords, It gave me the feeling like she was coming up with the lyrics off the top of her head while singing. Vocally it was very choppy, A Guitar Solo would have worked better than her repetitive ooooooh oooooh, oooooh toward the end it was horribly out of tune. A instrumental would have been much better.
@bruinsfan9645 I agree with pretty much everything you said there. I think the song is OK, but lacks any dynamics. The 'ooohs' didn't come out good, and if better executed and lowered in the mix might have made a nice foundation for the solo you suggest... even strings would have been better here given the mood of the song. On the upside, it was nice to hear Mary using more of her 'proper' voice and not resorting to falsetto.
It's all subjective though, and many people clearly love the song as it is, and that's fine.
