Daniel, you'll probably get a number of comments telling you that "this isn't really the Doobie Brothers". Many don't consider the Michael McDonald era "real Doobie Brothers". I don't necessarily agree with that - but the two eras are significantly different. You'll want to listen to the earlier stuff to understand. For some earlier suggestions, try: Long Train Runnin', China Grove, Black Water, Listen to the Music, Rockin' Down the Highway, and Jesus is Just Alright With Me.
For the Michael McDonald era, in addition to the song you just did, you might try: It keeps You Runnin', Takin' it to The Streets, and Minute By Minute.
Michael McDonald (as I'm sure you've already discovered) has a very unique and amazing voice. He did lots of session work (keyboards and background vocals mainly) before joining the Doobie Brothers and then later doing his own stuff. When you listen to any random song and think that might be Michael McDonald singing background vocals...it probably is. He's on a number of Steely Dan songs - probably some that you've already done.

Rick Moranis spoofs Michael McDonald beautifully on SCTV with that duet McDonald did with Christopher Cross.
But yeah, "China Grove" in "Field of Dreams"...one of the all time great driving songs.

Agree with all this. Daniel, in addition to the Doobie Brothers, you might also enjoy Kenny Loggins version of this song - slight change in point of view IIRC. And then while you are at it -because if you're going to take me down a rabbit hole of a dozen interesting songs when I plan to listen to only one, surely I return the favor!! - check out Kenny Loggins' "This Is It" - you will never in a million years guess who's there on the backing vocals.

Other Doobie Brothers songs to check out:
    Listen to the Music
    Jesus Is Just Alright
    Long Train Runnin'
    China Grove
    Black Water
Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me)
    Takin' It to the Streets
    It Keeps You Runnin'
    Minute by MInute
Michael McDonald is on the last three of these songs. The Doobie Brothers really changed their sound when McDonald joined the group. It's almost like they were two different bands, although most of the personnel was the same.
Black Water is a great song, and one of their biggest hits, but it's not like anything else they ever did (or maybe that anyone else ever did). I think you should react to it, but if you want to know what the pre-McDonald Doobies sounded like, be sure to listen to some of the others. Long Train Runnin' is particularly good, in my opinion.

That guy just sitting back in the chair strumming his guitar is Jeffrey Allen "Skunk" Baxter. Hes an American guitarist, known for his stints in the rock bands Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers during the 1970s and Spirit in the 1980s. More recently, he has worked as a defense consultant and chaired a Congressional Advisory Board on missile defense. Backed by several influential Capitol Hill lawmakers, Baxter received a series of security clearances, so he could work with classified information.

After 39 years of marriage, with the one woman who still puts up with me, I learned that a girl I chased in high school (and who I thought I was in love with back then), I was on the protagonist side of this. Then I recently heard from a mutual friend that I reconnected with, that after two failed marriages, she was asking about me more than 40 years later. There is a reason this song means different things at different times in your life. (And no, I hold no animosity toward the high school girl I wished for then. I wish her nothing but well. But with my wife, I've already found my soulmate. May you all do the same!)

The Doobie Brothers is not the only band to have a major lead singer change, others include Van Halen and Chicago, each has been divided into "eras" based on who the lead singer was. That being said, here's a different perspective.
Some television shows that have long histories have had character changes, some planned and others not. Actors (like musicians) have their own lives (and sometimes deaths) so while a television show can do either writing a death into the story, or hiring a new actor to continue. A band doesn't have all those options. All three of these acts have had significant success with different lead singers, and they all have fans who like one or the other. I personally, for all three, like all the lead singers.
Hope to hear more of them being reacted to, and I'll end this with a line by Roj from the SitCom What's Happening, "Which Doobie do you be?"

As you can read by many comments, some people like MM era of Doobie Bro’s and others don’t. When was younger I didn’t like it it have grown to appreciate MM more as I got older. Especially since my own band has added MM era songs like Minute By Minute and Taking It To the Streets to our sets. Doobie Bro’s got more complex musically with MM but lost some of their rock edge.

He had a crush on her when they were both younger. He thought of her all the time. She had a place in his life.
But she was never really aware of him and his interest in her. She barely remembers him.
He bumps into her in a restaurant and thinks to himself. It is fate. Finally We have a chance to be together! Finally he realizes they never really were and it was all his fantasy.that was my interpretation.

Michael McDonald will say Steely Dan was the best band around at the time. Fagen, Becker, and their producer Gary Katz eventually told Michael to go and become a star on his own because of that voice! As soon as that this album emerged with the Doobie Brothers. Already a favorite got even better because of Michael.

I heard you mention Steely Dan......good ear. If you listen to the song Peg by SD.....you will hear Micheal MacDonald (lead singer for DB.
Also, on many of SD’s songs, the lead guitar player is a guy named Jeff (Skunk) Baxter...who also was a member of the Doobie Bros on several albums. Steely Dan regularly borrowed musicians and vocalists from other top bands of the day..
    Enjoying your style.

Once again, the hit maker Michael McDonald at work. If he's on backgrounds, you've got a hit.
Shout out to the impeccable production ala Steely Dan. Yacht Rock.

So great! Minute by minute, it keeps you running, and taking it th the streets are my other favorites. Michael McDonald’s solo song “I keep forgetting” is great, Jeff porcaro on drums, Louis johnson on bass, and Greg Phillinganes on keys!

Co-written by Kenny Loggins which gives me the opportunity to recommend reactiong to Kenny's previous band Loggins & Messina. "Angry Eyes" was a popular FM radio song from the '70's and I think you would love the musicianship.
