Iconic
Just a question Harvard is at the end of the day a capitalist institution so being able to afford to go to Harvard does protray her privilege doesn't it plus her expensive clothes also flashes her privileges so it isn't just the pink which is the problem
@sradhalekshmi.s.s9383 it is established in the movie that she is rich. Also she is so rich her parents don't care that she changes colleges for no reason. Middle class people can't afford to change colleges mid career.
@@thevikingbear2343 that's why I said it's not just the clothes that's bothering the students it's the privileges which most of them don't get and it getting flashed on to their faces which makes it seem unfair to them granted they change their viewpoint in the story
@rittataylor_2000 most of them are also nepo, trust fund babies, just old money. They look down on her for being new money
There are so many reasons why Elle is such a major comfort character for me. She’s intelligent, insightful, and independent, not to mention her sense of fashion is absolutely impeccable.
not to mention shes a "typical" popular girl but is super kind
@@msminx_what I noticed though is that all of the “popular” people at my school are nice. Nobody would like them if they were shitty lol. I put popular in quotes because hs nowadays is nothing like how I’ve heard from older generations bc they’re aren’t any like cliques or anything. Everyone kinda just drifts. The “popular” kids are the ones everyone talks to
And she also embraces her femininity without any problem with being powerful
@@homedepot. Yes. I'd say nowadays popular kids are the kids that excell in all aspects of school. Grades, sports, looks and both people and book smart. They're friendlier and hence admired and liked by everyone making them "popular". Very opposite to the popular kids in older generations.
I love the way Elle won the case she might not be the intelligent some people consider intelligent but it’s puts her girl knowledge to use!
my favorite thing about these movies was that she never lost her personality or sense of style when that’s normally shown as a “sacrifice” women have to make to mature when thats so limiting and demeaning because you can absolutely be a bubbly stylish person who loves looking good and still be extremely intelligent and strong!
Thats my favorite thing about this movie too. It shows that you don’t have to be a more masculine woman to be powerful. You can still embrace your femininity and girly-ness while still being a powerful woman and that you don’t have to sacrifice one for the other.
Yeah. You don’t need to wear monotone things to be mature, you can dress like a rainbow and be a smart and capable member of society.
For real! I’m not very feminine but as someone is into “childish” things I appreciate that Elle was allowed to be herself! She didn’t have to totally suppress her interests, she still rocked hot pink
@@gailasprey7787 idk what this society has against color lol
@@fairygodbrotherr same. Colour is a stimulator, colour makes you happy and feels like you’re more awake. Because of one of the happy hormones making you more focused and productive. (Dopamine, the lacking of this is actually what ADHD is and why the meds work. They add more dopamine to the brain and it makes tasks feel more rewarding) People say “Oh I’m tired” and I get why, if I lived in that white place with all the white shirts and white sheets of the bed I’d probably be tired too.
I LOVE Elle Woods. Almost every strong smart woman in media is portayed as the "tough, not like other girls" kind of woman. Elle shows that feminine doesn't equal weak or stupid.
Yes, totally agree with this! Elle IS like other girls! She respects them as equals, she identifies with them, and she seeks out familiarity and companionship from women. She’s such a good example of positive femininity and how to lift not only herself but also other women (like how she ultimately rejects Warner and welcomes Vivian).
i mean both warrior action girl and girl like Elle can exist at the same time, society often swing at the extreme between demonizing traditionally feminine women and then demonizing tough women and its not great

What I loved about the movie is that it showed Elle putting in the work.
She avoided parties to study for the LSATs and even switched channels from entertainment to legal ones while she was exercising in her dorm.
I love this movie.. Even at the start we KNOW shes not stupid. Shes immenseley smart and hardworking, but her motivation is for someone else. By the end, she realised that she loved herself more, and would do what SHE like, instead of doing things for others. In addition to that, it also brings in the message that you cant just call someone stupid from appearance.
As a dude, what i really love about elle woods is that she combatted her insecurities with feminine support from her friend paula and her own strength of will. Also, despite being excluded by Vivian, she still treated Vivian with kindness instead of becoming super jaded and petty like most female leads will in movies made with a more masculine mindset (strong female thats tough and emotionless troupe). Also, the diversity of female personalities !! the wise unyielding older woman figure, the funny but also shy friend, the bubbly extravagant friends, the mature yet also stubborn and headstrong friend .. its so nice seeing various types of women in the legally blonde movies
Who was the shy friend?
@@talltalllady the shy friend was paula, she didn't even get a word out to the delivery guy
@@justaperson4656 But she still ended up getting him
@@talltalllady that doesn't change her shyness tho
Some lawyers have adopted pink branding because of Elle.
Did they adopt pink scented resume papers, too?!
I saw her appearing on my shorts sometimes! she's awesome
@@killjoyer Oh?
Who?
Probably, it just adds that little extra touch, you know?
This movie proves the point that you can be a powerful woman but also be feminine. It’s not being eye candy or stereotypical. You don’t need to be badass to be labeled as a “powerful woman”.
Yeah, I agree!
I would say her keeping her head high despite everyone around her making ill assumptions about her and not believing in her while having the bravery to continue to be herself and have the smarts to get her degree is pretty damn badass
I totally get your point, but I think femininity can be amazingly badass! Like guys/nonbinary people wearing dresses, makeup, etc, and especially not caring what others think while facing possible (and more often than not unfortunately) scrutiny just to be themselves is immensely badass. Having the courage to be yourself even when that's not what society wants you to conform to knowing you'll face assholes is brave, and badass. The reason femininity can especially be badass is because society deems masculinity as normal, default, and the goal/standard, and it's assumed to be obvious why this is. Femininity and being a woman specifically are seen as lesser than, less desirable, or outright not desirable or acceptable. Something to be ashamed of, kept hidden. It's why society has a way bigger issue with and focuses almost entirely on trans women when it comes to discussions around trans people; for a variety of reasons, one being that they're more visibly trans than trans masculine people because of the way hormones change and don't change bodies, and another key one being that people subconsciously and otherwise don't understand why someone would "want" (in quotes because trans women don't *want* to be women, they *are* women, obviously) to be a woman, no matter if they are one already, because being masculine and being a man specifically is seen as the peak of being human, and why would you ever want to be "less than" (in quotes bc obviously women/femme people are not actually "less than" men and masc people)? Why would you "give up" the desirable traits, even if it is just you being open about who you actually are for the first time in your life?
It's just how another comment said that often in these types of character arcs, the woman has to give up her personality, especially feminine traits, to be seen as having matured, and as worthy of respect/more respect. Because she's closer to being a man, which is the "ultimate form of human" and thus "deserving automatically of more respect". It happens all the time that a woman/femme person is an authority on a subject or in a field and an average guy off the street can successfully write her off and have people listen to him just because of misogyny. So, so much worse with misogynoir (misogyny against Black women/femme people) obviously. In this essay, I will... JK jk 🤣
Thank you if you read this far, and thank you for coming to my Ted talk 😂 just some salient points I thought could use being made
@@traditionalnative yeah that’s fair. But when I said “badass” I was referring to how Hollywood views “badass”. Hollywood sees girls who are badass as not like other girls and not feminine. And it’s good to see a whole other take on that.
I disagree, Elle IS badass, just in a feminine way
@@nkirukaj2384 I know. I’m talking about hollywoods view on “badass” and how we got a break from that job this movie

Elle Woods and Buffy Summers were role models to me growing up, along with my mom, who was a single mom that had her struggles but did the best she could to raise us. I’m a guy, but I’ve always loved movies and TV and watched whatever I could. Like obviously I idolized Aragorn and Luke Skywalker, but I loved stories with capable, powerful women bc it reminded me of my mom.
So many people act like a woman can't be a role model for a boy, and that's so dumb, when every kid learns so much from their mother.
Elle is amazing and that movie was so ahead of it's time and I loved how Elle's friends tried to help her get into law school even though they didn't understand anything they wanted to support her.
Hmmm I don’t understand how it’s ahead of its time when it was written by my age group for my age group? I’m seriously trying to understand this whenever I see comments like this? Does it mean people of that time didn’t understand the media or it withstood the test of time?
@@LifeisthebigOtoday, society has become more feminist but we still see so many movies in which the woman character is strong because she conforms to masculinity (while ofc still being beautiful in ways that appeal to the male gaze) and doesn’t ‘lower’ herself by associating with anything that’s pink or ‘girly’ (classic not like the other girlsness). and ofc it’s fine for women to not like the colour pink or things that are associated with traditional femininity, but these depictions don’t exist to say that, they exist to put down what women like. Legally Blonde feels like a direct calling out to these one note pick-me depictions of ‘strong women characters’, despite having been made back in the year 2001. that’s what makes it ahead of its time
@@sully42Owe wore a lot of pink and we didn’t think it was overtly feminine we just liked it. We didn’t think too deeply about these things back then, people wore what they liked and was acceptable in their corporate culture.
So some corporations wore black, blue, gray but we didn’t think it was masculine, it was just their dress code. However, at the bank where I worked, we wore suits of many colors even pink. Lots of guys also wore pink dress shirts and I remember pink polo shirts being popular back then for preppy men. That’s why I don’t get when people say it’s ahead of its time when you weren’t there to see what was going on. In the movie what we understood back then when Elle wore pink to court was to say she’s done with their conservative dress code and she’s going back to what’s flamboyant and fun for her.
@@LifeisthebigO what i was trying to say was i think people claim Legally Blonde was ahead of its time because of how perfectly it’s aged. it’s a 2001 film that has a message particularly perfect for the modern day
@@sully42Ooh I see. Yes I agree it aged really well.
For sure a fashion icon ❤
I love her. She always remains herself. She's a very sincere person and operates from her heart but never forgets her brain. She's smart, kind, genuine, sincere, compassionate and determined. She may cry and have blah days but that's what I truly admire about Elle Woods, she's human and she's herself and fully embraces herself despite the judgments of other people. She's an icon 💖
why hollywood don't make more movies like this. This movie is the real female empowerment. These days empowerment movies are dog shite.
Eh, they probably take one look at Legally Blonde, are certain they can’t do better, so they don’t even try. Or maybe they think people resonate more with strong, albeit now boring, females leads who all do the same basic thing (fight and change who they are) and expect us not to get bored the 500th time this decade.
THIS. Female empowerment isn’t turning away from femininity; it’s realizing that femininity and intelligence/power/competence aren’t mutually exclusive.
they just busy makes 'male with boobs' characters these days
@@KeitieKalopsiathat’s why movies like Barrie are so well received, they don’t shun femininity (they actually make fun of that idea) but balance it within the ‘impossible task of being the perfect woman.’
I don’t actually understand why they don’t. We’ve all grown up with the stereotype of “Girl who likes pink is mean and spoiled”, which is so rude! Femininity is has been so shunned over the years, and I’m glad we’re turning towards the opposite direction. For many, many years, especially in western media, the formula for movies was “Girl likes boy, feminine girl wants boy, feminine girl bullies others, boy doesn’t like feminine girl, Girl and boy start dating” maybe a prom scene if it’s an American movie.
I’m glad movies like Legally Blonde and Barbie have gotten so much love!
Such a great movie and this an everyone’s clothing is such a good detail
Best part of Legally Blonde: it is based on an authors life in college. Yes, obviously, exaggerated, but she was blond, while going to Stanford, and also loved fashion and didn't get along with her peers because of it. Author is Amanda Brown 😊
She named the character Elle after elle magazine btw 😂 another lil fun fact
Why is the fact she’s blonde change anything?
@@EllieMae722Sometimes blonde people get stereotyped as being ditzy or unintelligent, which of course isn't true!
@@EllieMae722 have you ever heard the term bimbo?
Ooo!
I think I also remember the author getting accepted into Harvard, but the reason why she applied to it was cause there was good shopping in the area
This movie impacted me so much when I was a kid. I ended up in medicine in part thank to it! Also I didn’t like fashion at all and initially felt obligated to like it since it’s something girls should like. But I thought Elle would accept me either way as a girl whether I liked fashion or not. It was so liberating!
I was just thinking of her this morning. At the end when she makes her entrance in the pink outfit, it really stood because she had been wearing such subdued coliyrs, and then when she makes her comeback, she really stands out. As a student myself she really inspires me
I love the confidence she shows to be herslef, to be pretty and feminine and still serious and hard working. She doesn't compromise who she is for what others think she should be
Fun fact the type of green she is wearing is called 'scholars' green'
Everytime i watch literally blonde, it's a happiness booster for me. Like in a bad day, watching it just makes my day better. Elle also just cheers me up in a profound way. I just really love this movie❤
also if you love Legally Blonde’s intro/opening scene, i just posted a long video on that too ! (it’s linked to this vid) 💕🫶
And notice her collard shirt is pink in her green outfit!
She was always kind. And yet still stood up for herself without being malicious.
There’s actually a line in the musical after Elle gets the internship that goes “I’ll even dress in black and white”
This is exactly why Elle is one of my top favorite female protagonists in any early 2000's movie. She proves that you can be pretty, fashionable and intelligent. I wish more movies had strong protagonists like her.
i watched legally blonde for about the 50th time on an airplane the other week and started crying during her graduation speech because this movie is just so well done and yet so fun to watch
Literally my comfort movie
I loved your legally blonde video!! your voice is so soothing and pleasing to hear💖🌸🌺

The teacher speech at the saloon is so empowering
I always get so excited when Pink and Green are mirrored too, since they are opposites on the color wheel. They also have total opposite meanings when you explore the psychology and emotion behind the color.
We need more movies like this. It seems like lately all/most of the female empowerment movies (especially the ones directed at children) have leads that aren’t overly feminine. Which yes, it is important to show women & girls who vary in personality, but it’s also important to show that you can be super girly and stereotypically feminine and still be powerful and intelligent. Too often it’s marketed as mutually exclusive and that’s sooo damaging
The only character that actually deserves a "sigma grindset" edit.
One of the best characters ever written!
"Happy People Just Don't Kill"
I love that Elle is not just feminine, pretty etc, she is also kind to her female peers!
Bruiser matching her outfits is the cherry on top for me! 😍
Hope she had won an Oscar for this performance!!! Was classic!!!
When i think barbie, i think her. Pink, feminine, and a boss
My preference for fashion and feminine charms may be very different from Elle, but Elle is the kind of different I can absolutely admire and consider worth learning from.
My dad always says she reminds him of me and that will always be the best compliment i will ever get❤❤
One of my favorite scenes is when Elle runs into one of the teachers in the salon, hinting that she was once like Elle.
Legally Blonde is one of the BEST movies I’ve ever seen. Girl power to the max with Elle!!
I love it when wardrobe choices have been made specifically to symbolise a characters arc or even tell like a background story. It just elevates a piece of media that little bit more imo.
I love her! My boyfriend loves her! We loved how she didn't change herself in the end and she is a real power girl for it
I respect Elle's pink wardrobe.
My favorite piece of clothing though is that blue robe with the cute, happy clouds. 😊
I loved Reese in this movie! ❤❤❤❤ simply delightful energy
I wanted to be Elle as a kid. I thought she was me. Someone that wouldn't be accepted because of aesthetic.. but now she is me. I am engaged, in law school, killing it and I have my own little bruiser that is name Bobo ❤❤❤
God! I love this so much! Especially the dude who plays Maurice, he’s able to express the emotions so clear and beautiful through mere voice alone. Amazing ❤
Rqndom fun fact: in the italian dubbing, the movie is called "the revenge of the blondes"
But she does revert back to herself when she ask Chutney about her hair and why it’s still curly after a shower ( isn’t it the first rule of perm maintenance that your NOT SUPPOSED TO WET UR HAIR FOR 24 HOURS AT THE RISK OF DEACTIVATING THE AMONIA THYGLOCOLATE after chutney reveals she’s had 30 perms since she was 12
Yes, that's the point being made towards the end of this video. She uses her intelligence, skills as a lawyer and fashion and beauty acumen to win the case, by being authentically herself -- which is shown visually by her wearing the pink dress, the same kind of thing she wore at the beginning of her journey, before she started trying to conform to others' expectations.
That courtroom dress is so iconic 😍
Elle is the perfect example of a well written female character
Elle is an icon! I love her character!
Literally one of the best films ever. It‘s honestly so empowering and inspiring. Sure it‘s a bit cheesy and unrealistic but the message is so clear. Iconic movie ❤
I absolutely adored the aqua sequin dress on her I thought it was so cute
Elle Woods 2024!!!
Love your TV/Film fashion analysis! Would love to see a longer video of early 2000s movies. Also, one for 90s and 80s movies ❤
Her agent was a genius. He wrote into her contract for the movie that gets to keep all the clothes and shoes she wears in the movie. Everything was designer
I always love that she goes back to pink when she won the case
The black Porsche is still blowing my mind
I love how her pup has matching outfits- so cute
WHY IS THIS CHANNEL SO UNDERRATED MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
The fact that Elle thought her dog’s a female this whole time, killed me🤣🤣
Where does she said she thought Bruster was female?
Uh....No. Elle clearly knows Bruiser is male. She just knows he has a taste for the feminine things in life just like she does but didn't think that he was gay. He wears skorts, and he likes to wear her shoes but he's still male and he knows it.
I was never a “girly girl” but I absolutely love this movie and Elle.
I just love it so much. She is iconic but not mean. She was so kind✨
Elle is a wonderful character. Strong independent and fun.
Glad Legally Blonde is getting all these attention 😊😊😊😊
BREWSER WITH THE MATCHING ACCESSORIES AHHHH
It may be stupid but I always looked up to the character of Elle. I loved her as a kid and as a teen I appreciated having a comfort character show me it's possible to be both pretty and smart when others around me didn't seem to think so
Elle is an inspiration to a lot of Harvard grads. During my graduation last year, I saw so many people have “what? Like it’s hard?” on their stoles 🥰 That movie was powerful!
This is a strong character that's well written. Not because she's a woman, but because she's a damn good character first :)
That was both hilarious and horrifying at the same time 😭
I love that woolly hat with the flower - she rocks that hat
also, notice the different shades of pink she wears too. in the beginning and middle of the movie she wears much lighter pinks and fun patterns, but her suit in the end is a deeper pink. still her, just more mature and professional.
I absolutely LOVE this movie!!! I will stop everything I'm doing to watch it! Elle is an amazing role model!!!
This movie has helped me so much as a STEM major. I wore bright pink to class once and got told by my classmates how I stook out and "not in a good way".
Ahhhhh, I've always had bright colored pink, purple, etc hair with a very pink and feminine look. Being one of the few woman and only brown woman in a room made it so difficult to not change my wardrobe and try to fit in since I stuck out so much already.
Elle has honestly given me the confidence to go out to conferences, speak with experts on their studies, befriend department chairs, work hard in class, and all while dressed/styled as feminine as I want even when I'm told how much I don't fit in class by my peers.
Def gotta rewatch the film❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love the pink, inside and out.
What insight! I enjoyed your perspective. It adds a new dimension to a movie that, at first glance, seems to be part of the "superficially quirky" genre.
You did a great job!
She never lost herself in an environment that was new to her!
I looooove Elle
The green suit was literally her trying to conform and blend in
I LOVE LEGALLY BLONDE🔥🔥🙏🏼🙏🏼
Forgot how much I love this movie❤❤❤
Legally Blond is unironically my favorite movie
Has been one of my favorite movies since I was a little kid.
Her hair also does the same thing. It’s curled when shes confident and pulled back or straight when she’s not
The best character ever!
I watch this movie at least once per week, and I'm STILL finding new details that I haven't seen before. Legally Blonde might look like an over-the-top romantic comedy, but it talked about themes that were WAY ahead of its time for a 2001 film. Elle Woods is the queen of female empowerment 💗
This movie made me and continues to make me feel seen and reminds me that no matter what I am who I am. I’m smart, beautiful, driven, and feminine. I don’t have to be one and sacrifice the other. And if anyone wants to judge the book by its cover before giving it a read, that’s entirely their own loss.
I'm drunk rn and sobbing because I love women so much.
Elle you're my icon ily.
Mood
It's a fun and interesting movie. I love how it exchange the idea of being the odd one in different way.
One of the reasons why I love this novie so much is that it completely flips every stereotype on its head. Elle is rich, blonde, and feminine, but she's also incredibly intelligent and hardworking. She doesn't sacrifice her personality for the sake of "not being like other girls." Of anything, her "being like other girls" actually makes her stand out more when faced with all of the other female protagonists
I love legally blonde it’s a masterpiece
Pink represents her bubbly essence-
Elle is an icon!!💕💕💕
Even when she wears green, she wears a pink shirt underneath because she hasn't fully let go of her old self yet❤
I remember the first time i was watching the movie. I didn't want to cause i didn't want to stare at someone in pink (i absolutely hated the color as a kid and refuse to wear it. But a close friend always did and well ect). But i watched it anyways and loved it, still didn't care for all the pink but love her personality, her brain, and her style.
i love this movie so much it brought me to tears when i watched it
