It's pretty much been raining non-stop here in Montebello (east of L.A.) since about 3pm.. at times pouring. Can't speak for other areas.

I lived there for 13 years. It would rain about three days a year and it was instant gridlock! People couldn’t drive in the rain.

I used to live in Sunland. From there you can drive up Big Tujunga Cyn Rd. through the mountains to get up to the High Desert, beginning at Palmdale. Most of the time, there is very little water that runs through the canyon, ending up in Hansen Dam in Lakeview Terrace. It’s more like a tiny creek. But I’ve also seen water raging downstream, in some parts at 60 feet wide.
The only state that declares an emergency when its light rain 🤣

Despite all the damage, it's a small price to pay, I'm very grateful for the rain. We need every drop of that water, the state is prone to droughts every so often. Unfortunately a lot the rain is still lost and ends up back at sea. We seriously need more reservoirs to get us through dry years.

I am from Georgia and I’m with ya on that. However one thing we don’t have that they do have, is mud slides. I personally experienced this living out in Malibu canyon area for a time.
boulders and falling cliff side, that’s what makes the canyons scary. The erosion & waterfall’s. Terrifying to evacuate from that type of area. Not knowing if a random boulder is going to crash through your windshield & having to drive through waterfalls that appear on the side of a cliff that could push your car off into the canyon.

Rain doesn't pile up. Hail piles up. Snow piles up. Rain just floods.

This is a cycle in CA. I've lived her my entire life. It rains and there are floods. Everyone is warned to leave, they don't. Lots of people live in those dry river bottoms and won't leave when they get the warning. They open up the national guard for these people to stay in. They are not left out in the rain. Then the fire department needs to risk their lives to safe these people. Then when the storms are over and all the people who build these homes on the side of hill with a long history of slides look around they see everything turn green. Newsom, who pulled funding for them to clean up all the green stuff before it dries out from the lack of rain burns and we have massive fires. It's a cycle here in CA. It's gotten worse since our current head of state got elected and the idiot left keeps electing him even though this state is going down the toilet. Once upon a time this was a nice place to live. It was a go to place. No more.

Gosh, I'm glad I'm in Honolulu rn. I should be okay when I land tomorrow in Los Angeles because I am thinking the rain shouldn't be too bad, but even if it were hard, it is easier for planes to land in heavy rain.

It will surely get worse in the hours ahead, but to we who are used to big storms, these two live reports seem satirical. "Piling up" water is just a goofy thing to say.
