Philippines is dealing too many typhoons in a year and it’s heartbreaking to see the devastation most of the time. This Typhoon Odette also hit the Panay islands but thankfully my Family in Iloilo are all okay and safe and out the houses in our entire neighbourhood doesn’t have any damage. It’s only the plants that was been affected. I hope all those families and cities who got affected can recover soon.
I'm stuck here in USA for the last 2 years, My wife and daughters are in Argao (actually the oldest daughter is in Mandaue). I have not heard anything from them today but of course all power and cell towers are probably out for a long while. Just keeping them and all of the Philippine people in mine and my friends prayers. On the whole, I am extremely impressed with how most of the buildings stood up in downtown Cebu! The trees took an awful beating, and I didn't see a single utility cable left hanging - but on the whole things looked great considering. I hope that same good fortune held for the outer rings of the city though... 😟
Midtown and Downtown Cebu have many hanging cables, broken glasses, ruined buildings, and the like. This is just IT Park. Neighbor towns have it worst.

At least 3 houses of my relatives in Cebu city have lost their roofs. Others with houses of much lighter materials have got it worse. Also relatives in Tagbilaran, Bohol, has similar situations. Thanks for the video.
So, in that case, if the roofs of some houses, were blown away, then that really reminded me of the supertyphoon "RUPING", that was extremely strong, that happened in CEBU and the neighboring provinces, on a November month, back in 1991, cause it really took out the roofs of most houses, and the ships on the seaports turned upside down. RUPING was really taking the "ROOFING" of most houses 🏘️ away, before!......🌀

After a few days now, I have watched a few other videos and yes, boats have been overtuned, some pushed together into the shallows and mangroves. The high rises of the IT Park look well built, and they seem to have not sustained any significant damage - just some branches down, and one or two trees uprooted. Thank God! Checklists for super typhoon preparation (at least 2-3 days before it hits or lands) based on my experience from typhoon Ruping (1990’s) 1. Water supply for at least 7 days or more 2. Maintenance medicines for at least 7 days or more 3. Full tank fuel for vehicles if you have the extra funds 4. Groceries preferably canned goods forn7!days or more 5. Flashlights battery operated or rechargeable 6. Cash on hand since ATM’s will probably run out of cash 7. secure roofing structures put additional nails or bolts 8. CUT TREES or branches around your perimeter house ... 7. 2.

Copied!...And huge fruit trees like mango trees, Jackfruit trees or even avocado trees, is not really good to be situated just right beside the house, like a few steps away, especially if it's taller or higher than the house, cause if there's a hurricane or other forms of calamities, with the strongest winds, and the trees got uprooted, it would surely fall on the roof of the house, and if nobody notices it, especially when everybody is sleeping, most especially the baby, that will surely cause their demise, as the tree is so huge and so heavy, and they can't get away with it anymore... better to have dwarf fruit trees..... 🌴

The typhoon is equivalent to a Cat 5 hurricane. Can’t minimize the damage especially the intensity became so strong before it made landfall in the island.
As devastating as this storm may be, those who compare it to 2013 Haiyan are exaggerating. Haiyan did not leave a single electrical post standing and the storm surge reached the middle of the city evidenced by the debris on the streets. Not to mention the casualties. All things considered, Cebu faired better than we did here in Tacloban. All the trees were also stripped bare of their leaves which in hindsight blows my mind.

Philippines needs to upgrade and enforce strict building codes to minimize damages like this, also typhoon warnings system could improve if needed.
