I'm surprised and happy that you reviewed this. They play this every now and then on TV over here in Korea which is how I found out about it. Christian Bale's character just seems way out of place here, but he does make it work. In fact, the whole cast of the movie is its greatest strength. Kudos to the two female leads for knocking it out of the park in their debut movie roles. Unsurprisingly, this movie is banned in Japan.

I like current Japan and it's one of my favorite places to visit, but denial of things what happened in WWII just annoys the heck out of me. Even glorifying many of the serious war criminals.

The novel is based on some true stories.Minnie Vautrin and the Nanking Safety Zone.
The fact is worse than the movie.
This is one of the Minnie Vautrin's diary which makes me suffer for a long long time:
There probably is no crime that has not been committed in this city today. Thirty girls were taken from language school last night, and today I have heard scores of heartbreaking stories of girls who were taken from their homes last night-one of the girls was but 12 years old. Food, bedding and money have been taken from people. … I suspect every house in the city has been opened, again and yet again, and robbed. Tonight a truck passed in which there were eight or ten girls, and as it passed they called out "救命!救命! Jiuming! Jiuming!"-save our lives. The occasional shots that we hear out on the hills, or on the street, make us realize the sad fate of some man-very probably not a soldier.

I recently watched this film on RUclips Films. I would like to give a shout out to Tianyuan Huang who played the young man, George Chen. He does an excellent job of portraying the stress his character faces and the courage of his character to face these challenges. I do not think that there is an adult actor who could have given a better performance of this character.

I recently watched this film and was having a decent enough time, but I wasn’t ready for the ending.
I recently read The Rape of Nanking and thought I’d watch the movie, but people be warned, the movie has a singular moment that brings the “rape of Nanking” to life and it thoroughly disturbed me.

this in it self is a brilliant movie in acting and story line , nothing will ever come close to the atrocity's that happened in Nanjing so dont try to compare, just watch a great movie with great acting by all involved

@@TheSilverSpleen I object to all the movies that do that and even some of the movies that do it in a silly and cartoonish way are way worse than the movies that do it in a way that is intentionally brutal.
I knew you would oppose these anti-Japanese films, I was sure of that.

I watched this movie in cinema when it was released. As a Chinese, I expected Zhang Yi Mou to do a good job on this one because we all hope the tragedy in Nanjing during WW II be seen from outside of China. But I gotta say I was disappointed. I wanted to shed a tear but,,, the emotional level was not built up properly. I mean I really wanted to be touched by the movie but failed to do so, despite my effort..Haha

@@TheSilverSpleen It was an anti-Japanese film Perhaps you did not notice some scenes calling for anti-Japanese hatred Of course, anti-Japanese film production is just a move by the Chinese, and even the Chinese regime wants this hatred to be alive.

Was it not excessively sentimental to your taste? Whats the single word that means 'make your cry' in movies? i think the debate should be on How the chinese have their own values/ moral standards, in how some people are inherently inferior.

Do you encourage people to watch an anti-Japanese movie? 3:50
2:56 You probably know that the USA did terrible things during World War II and Even the "Red Army" of the USSR committed atrocities and war crimes during World War II and after the war, so it is not fair to ignore these atrocities committed by other countries such as the United States of America.

Which is really well paid( of course you don’t know, cuz fake new don’t expect that happen, they need a reason to make their movement sounds like “justice”)

It’s a absolutely great movie yes it’s toned down compared to history but it’s entertainment not a documentary and Christian is awesome (factor in Chinese director who can’t speak English telling a English man who can’t speak Chinese what to do that is a recipe for disaster with amateurs but both are professional and it shows)
