- For ages we have been saying "Jimny Varum...Jimny Varum" and finally it's out there being tested in 5 door, long wheelbase format. Indian launch may happen later this year and it will finally we will have an exciting lifestyle product from Maruti Suzuki. But is it what we really want and do we still want it?

Maruti not launching the 3 door Jimny is the biggest automotive setback for me. I own two Gypsies, one is dedicated and built for off road use and other largely a stock one where I get to enjoy all the old school raw mechanical feel of driving a car. I was even hoping to buy Jimny as a car that can double up as a city car with AT and an off roader too since it has most attributes that suits well for city usage. Even my wife could drive it around in city and in style. But for all those conservative bunch of honchos sitting at the top in Maruti, they've shattered all those dreams.
Haven't they been seeing the Thar selling like hot cakes. I'm waiting for one too since few months. How I desperately want to own a 3 door Jimny. I know of at least ten others in my circle who share the same sentiments. This is from a company who had launched Omni and Gypsy in the 80's, both were such atypical cars in those days. Omni became such a success, Gypsy may not have sold big numbers but isn't it such an iconic car today. What would've been our army be without Gypsy in their ranks. This is so sad to see Maruti's approach. Hapless bunch of people calling the shots there. I'm hoping against hope that it'll hit our shores some day. and NO Thanks, keep the 5 door Jimny with you, I'll be happy in a Thar.
Maruti, if you've eyes and ears pls do read up the comments coming up here if you still believe 3 door won't work in India. Meanwhile, do note that Mahindra is laughing all the way to the bank.

Possibly 5 door, 1.4 turbo, mild hybrid.. Could be placed between bolero and thar/gurkha. This could be the cheapest suv to maintain. Tons of aftermarket support. Great for high ranges, rallying, army, overlanding, off road projects etc

Going with Vivekji, I'd also want a basic 2WD automatic Jimny as my city car just for its character. Majority would agree to that too. It's really sad that MSIL haven't given or wouldn't give us the 3-door version of that car. Extremely hopeful and eagerly waiting for at least they deliver the 3-door Jimny as a limited edition.

In most off road comparison videos, Jimny is able to hold up with proper fully packed SUVs just because of it's small size and light weight. The 3 door automatic would have been perfect for India. I would definitely buy the 3 door version if they launch here, and that would form the perfect 2 vehicle garage along with my xpulse. Best for Bangalore city roads, and for the occasional weekend fun.

Maruti management till now they thought junk vehicles is enough for indians.lot of other Suzuki good vehicles are plying in other parts of the world.especially vehicles like Jimny and solio.
I was using Toyota 4 wheel cars for last 26 years all of them were excellent in performance comparing to other cars.
But l really want to have a Jimmy. The only problem 3 door are not advisable for family trips it is okay for two people. If there is four people we need to slide the front seats always. It okay for a city drive

hi guys..loved the discussion on jimny..many points you pointed out were bang on target..maruti failed to capitalize on jimny..i think it was a shrood cunning move,as you said the pricing..maruti is selling jimny in qatar at 95000 qr roughly near 20 lacs..and its selling ..not exactly like hotcakes..but in other middleeastern entities it is..that is mainly due to economic reasons (they have more choices in qatar) so maruti is roughly making more money per car by exporting, and using market research as an excuse...industrial news are not all fair...they do cook. i have used the jimny in qatar for sometime..the latest version..the draw back was the four speed gears and unstable at speeds above 100 km/hr...our expressways have speed designated at 120 km/hr..so kind of useless for long hauls ..but for urban use its perfect in size and speed although not very sprightly..off roading is average on it..mainly due to short chasis and light body it manages sand dunes..toyotas does it better...liked the dashhunt comparo:) stretched one is a wrong choice..but hey indian consumer mind can never be analysed correctly..but i think its wrong to launch at this point of time. apart from jimny topic i would prefer you guys from moving away from the road side parking and shooting and go to some fixed location or varied scenic location..like baiju n nair, i know you guys are different ..but pay attention to safety i see the vehicles zooming past and its scary..a back end collision is imminent..also try to do a bbc topgear kind of talk with selected audience with sponsorship, i am talking about jeremy clarkson style of chat shows with audience involvement...that would be a great idea too..anyways love your work and your spotify uploads are too little..invite me too if you are conducting such talk shows with audience..love to take part in it
