Hi, thanks for this video! I'm using this 41mm by 41mm unistrut too. Question for you, how do you seal these roof holes. I'm thinking of using foam strip for under the unistrut but unsure about sealing against water. Would you use a rubber washer under the bolt head then sikaflex over the top too? Love your videos, really helping and giving me ideas on first build! 🤠👍
New subscriber here 😀 Excellent video but I have a couple of questions please…? * I gather it’s possible to use special fittings so you can fix the unistrut to the 4 lugs on each side of the roof instead of needing to drill holes to bolt them on. Any reasons for not taking that route? * What size unistrut did you use please? I need it to be strong enough to hold two solar panels weighing 15kg each. * What do you do next after fitting the unistrut? Will you be showing that part of fitting the panels? Well done for helping Will - in his own videos he’s clearly appreciated the leg-up you’re giving him in his build.
Hi ya you can use these but because of wills leak I didnt want to go that route in case they are leaking and he had sealed them making it hard to use them. I used 41 x 41 unit strut on the roof and yes we will be showing a video when he comes back for the completion including painting the van
@@BuiltnotBoughtCampers Yes, with the leak being around one of the lugs, I can see why you avoided using them. However, when you do use them, what fittings do you use and where do you get them from? The perfect fitting seems to come as part of the kit for installing a Fiamma roof rack but you can’t buy them separately. (See what I mean at the start of Gadget John’s video here: ruclips.net/video/n0Waspo6Neg/видео.html ). Presumably I’d need a metal fabricator to make me some?
@@janemack1933 I think I'd be tempted to drill the roof and save the hassle that way there is no further expense and it will do the job. Wills will be holding two solar panels and some composite decking so the four fixings on each rail is plenty to hold it
Can you let me no were your work shop is I'm in bexhill and looking a doing my van out and a m8 is selling a van cheep and thinking of buying it to convert
Thanks again for the help Carl much appreciated! Catch you when I’m back from Scotland 🤟🏼
Be good to hear all about it. Been watching ur instagram
Great video guys 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you
Your sincerity always comes shining through and is a tonic for all facing our own personal battles in these unprecedented times..Stay Well.
Hibya I wouldn't use foam strip. I would use mastic tape that we use for the roof vent installation.
A brilliant Collab between you guys. Fan of both channels. Cheers.
Thank you
Brilliant vid. Keep them coming 👌👍

You have done brilliant work on all your videos
Thank you

I always put sikaflex in the holes thank you
sometimes I also use mastic tape
any tips on fitting unistruts on a 2005 vauxhall movano? first ever van build and trying not to mess it up haha
I always attach to roof rack points if not rub it through the roof itself

If you email.me we can chat about it. builtnotboughtcampers@gmail.com
Pity you didn't actually show how you fitted the bolts down though the roof. Washers, sealing ect
