Definitely more Bo Burnham in the future good sir. People are recommending the Kanye Rant (Can't Hold Us), and while I completely agree that is one of his most impactful performances, it should be built up to. Country Song, From God's Perspective, Sad, Left Brain/Right Brain. These are all ones that are great that get you some more exposure to Bo, and then you come in with the deep shit that is All Eyes on Me and the Kanye Rant.
Couldn't agree more with what you said about "The Kanye Rant". It's probably one of my favorite, most impactful pieces of theater I've ever seen. Bo Burnham’s stuff is great, I love his Kanye West piece, though there’s so many terrific songs and bits he’s done. “Welcome to the Internet” feels like the greatest Disney villain song you’ve never heard.
Bo is a comedic genius. I think he is this generation’s George Carlin. He pushes the boundaries of the comedy genre, has incredibly insight social commentary, and poses legitimate philosophical questions. Also knowing his story and mental health journey is inspiring. His old stuff is witty and offensive for shock value. His new stuff is thought provoking, depressing when appropriate, and hysterical. His special inside is worth watching on you own to see it all in context. It is his quarantine special. Pick anything and enjoy.
Whenever I'm listening to the radio with my partner and some shit lovey dovey pop song comes on where they just repeat the chorus over and over and over and over again I start singing Repeat Stuff
The line “Your time is now, your inside’s out” is so sinister to me still. The wordplay of our thoughts and feelings being exposed to the public due to us over sharing online, and algorithms learning what we want, plus this sick relation of that to our literal insides being outside our body like we’re bleeding with our guts out and we can’t do anything about it, because we allowed this program into our private life
The best villain song in a hot minute. Genius making it like a carnival barker, trying to lure you in as the camera gets closer. I love the “Apathy’s a tragedy and boredom is a crime” line. When it come to the internet, you’re not allowed to not feel anything or not have an opinion on any given subject, and you’re not allowed to not be constantly engaged.
I almost cried of guilt and shame the first time I heard this, it made me realise the world wide web and it's 1 million ways to engage has robbed me of any real joyous moments from the beginning as a child to now as a father, it killed me realising my addiction like this, I have been trying to cut down my time spent on it but it's just hard man.
Love Bo Burnham 👌 more of this please I've always thought of him as the dark carnival ring leader of the internet in this. Especially after that laugh 😬
"is that a thing" is the whole point of the song (or one of the many, many points of it), the internet is insane and people are wholly captured by the entertainment he is explaining to us
This whole special was so incredible and I still watch it from time to time. Probably my most watched single thing on Netflix ever. The fact that he wrote all of the songs, filmed the whole thing by himself, did ALL of the editing and just made an hour+ special all by himself in a room is so insane.
Just remember, every single one of these you watch that's from his "Inside" special was setup and recorded on one camera by just Bo. In case you wanted to really appreciate how much work went into the recording process of these visuals.
The entire Inside special was amazing, one of the best portrayals of a tortured artist that I've seen in a long time! It was so great because it was real, he wasn't just performing a special, he was crying loudly for help.
I think the genius of this song is him actually giving you a taste of the how it actually feels to use the internet. He feeds you another piece of information before you have the chance to digest the one you just heard. And the lyrics says some things that you normally would pull back even a bit from, but disguising itself as an upbeat, quirky, and catchy song designed to hook your attention and hold on to it, like most content you see online
Just throwing this out there that I would watch a full reaction to his Netflix special "Inside". It's just good art and there's a lot to talk about. Thank you for the video
I really like how it starts of rather whimsical like you say, but gradually gets more and more unhinged, but as it is with the real internet by the time you realise you've gone too deep it's too late, your social life is already tied to your social media accounts, you always have notifications on your phone, the services you use have already learned all about your interests and push more content to you to engage with. Sometimes it's not even deliberate but the system churns and you're just a drop in the ocean and you can't escape.
What I love about this is the way the internet is depicted as a advisory, A insidious force. It's there just to find your flaw or weakness, all the time pretending to be a friend. . Loved the reaction.
Since I see everyone recommending his newer stuff, I'd also recommend things like Art is Dead, Eff, Nerds, and Words, Words, Words. Truthfully, though, I've never heard one from him I didn't love so I hope you continue to explore. Loved your thoughts on this one!
when you asked "does he sing "? I thought you have to hear this its really a good piece from bo I think you may enjoy it, potentially anyways. at the very least it will leave you with more questions and curiosity about this man who is undoubtably one that is going down in history as a genius entertainer it's unfortunate that we didn't get his complete rain in the entertainment industry because of many snuffing him But what he has put out and then able to do is mess before like this please react to it i beg you lol its not a joke im not one to troll thats a waste of both are time.
The best thing about the special this song is from is Netflix hired him to do a live comedy show in late 2019 scheduled for spring 2020…. You can imagine how that went. So instead he wrote recorded and edited an entire comedy special over the course of a year all by himself in his tiny apartment during quarantine. Some of it is so scuffed, there’s songs where he’s unshaven in boxers and an undershirt in the dark with crap strewn all over his floor behind him, but all of it is so profound and inspired and so so sooooo funny
He is basically the “persona” of the internet and also telling you how it’s messed people up so much and in so many different ways that we forget what is real and to appreciate what actually matters, real life.
That opening section of the song is basically just what you see when you scroll social media. If you think of it in that context, "nine year old who died" gets basically scrolled past so quickly that you don't have time to register how deeply gut wrenchingly painful and full of sorrow for so many people that is. Because the song has already scrolled on. It only really hits when it starts getting darker and darker.
This whole body of work is amazing. INSIDE is a quarantine/depression project that has some salty things to say about our relationship to our online lives
At the end the lyrics change that one last time he says "all of the time " It's said "any thing and everything AND all of the time" Like it takes all your time and your left wondering what really happened
You said it. Brilliant! This hits on so many levels. I am 40 and of the generation that grew up mostly before the internet yet I've had it my entire adult life. The line about the parents wanting to put the world in "your" hands is really powerful. We've created this incredible "thing" that has in some ways been the best thing ever and simultaneously the worst thing ever. And it seemingly happened overnight in the mid 2000s. It really is dependent on the user but too many grow up without the ability to control themselves and this becomes a mind-rot utility that our grandparents said the TV would be. It makes the TV look innocent and harmless.
Watch his Inside special on Netflix. Won 3 Emmys and nominated for 6. It's so much better watching it start to end because you can see how it progresses. Watch it all at once and record your reaction to each song maybe, then just break up the songs individually for YT. There are monologues and transitions between songs and stuff :D The lights told a story throughout the video that most people don't catch. Start of song - lights everywhere like stars representing the internet and everything that's out there to be found ... Space is massive and ever expanding like the web. No stars - Talking about the internet being in its infancy stage and not much there. pink/green/red blob light - Talking about a kid that is only 2 getting introduced to the internet and doesn't know any better via ipad, phone or whatever. ending - The kid's light and the universe are blended together showing that the internet has won and the person is now a part of internet culture ... just like we all end up being. obviously we realize that Bo IS the internet in this song and is the villain.
I personally feel this is about relaxing people into dystopia, and making people docile. We’ve traded quality of life for instant gratification, and now that we have the world in our hands there’s really no going back. Children become dependent very early, and this isn’t to shame any parents, but it’s easier to let them plug in to technology than it is to have patience with them and interact with them ourselves. I don’t want to demonize technology, but the broader picture we can take from quarantine is that it’s really hard to moderate how much influence it has in our lives. Which I shouldn’t have to explain why that’s a problem. For as much good as it provides it comes with a lot of bad.
OMG I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO excited for you to do Bo Burnham. All the songs from his netflix special "Inside" is amazing. I will list my recommendations and the time lengths for each "Content" very short 1:36 but sets the pretense for the theme of this set of music "Comedy" 5:20 "Facetime with y Mom" 2:21 "White Woman's Instagram" 4:01 "30" 2:35 "That Funny Feeling" 5:01 "All Eyes On Me: 5:03

Bo is the incarnation of the internet, the villain who's already won.
What I love about this is the way the internet is depicted as a advisory, A insidious force. It's there just to find your flaw or weakness, all the time pretending to be a friend. . Loved the reaction.
MrLboyd: He can sing?
my mind: PLEASE DO ALL EYES ON ME 😂
When this came out I showed this song to my brother and we both came to the conclusion that it gave off the “ tunnel scene from Willy Wonka” vibes
Your initial confusion is GOLDEN. Love it. Also Burnhams a genius
Since I see everyone recommending his newer stuff, I'd also recommend things like Art is Dead, Eff, Nerds, and Words, Words, Words. Truthfully, though, I've never heard one from him I didn't love so I hope you continue to explore. Loved your thoughts on this one!
This is a Disney Villain song for a villain that's already won.
He's just describing what the internet is. Its goodness and badness
I really laughed with you reaction!!!!! Do more Bo!! Love from Spain, love you channel
when you asked "does he sing "?
I must say dude, seeing all the expression in you shaking your head "fuck no" makes me fucking die with laughter every time.
This has to be the most wholesome reaction to this song.
Definitely Have to check out "comedy" from his Inside show.
He is basically the “persona” of the internet and also telling you how it’s messed people up so much and in so many different ways that we forget what is real and to appreciate what actually matters, real life.
I love how he even hints at the very messed up and dark parts of the internet
That opening section of the song is basically just what you see when you scroll social media. If you think of it in that context, "nine year old who died" gets basically scrolled past so quickly that you don't have time to register how deeply gut wrenchingly painful and full of sorrow for so many people that is. Because the song has already scrolled on. It only really hits when it starts getting darker and darker.
Disney villain vibes for sure. The song gets faster and darker as the chaos becomes overwhelming.
The whole "inside" Netflix special is a work of art
This whole body of work is amazing. INSIDE is a quarantine/depression project that has some salty things to say about our relationship to our online lives
Got those Boogy Man Vibes. Lights and laugh and manic tone
Bo is a great comedian and musician wouldn't mind seeing more.
At the end the lyrics change that one last time he says "all of the time " It's said "any thing and everything AND all of the time" Like it takes all your time and your left wondering what really happened
This comedy special, the whole thing. Man it litterally changed my viewpoint on life.
“How the world works”, “That Funny Feeling” and “All eyes on me” are maybe my favorite songs from this special. You should check them!
Definitely more Bo! The whole of inside is incredible.
I love how this song represents the light and dark sides of the internet without actually saying thats what hes doing
I was on aol when i was in middle school because i didnt have a cell phone till high school, i dont miss them days either
Oh sweet! I was hoping you'd come around to Bo - thanks to the Patron who suggested it. 👍🏻
Leprous - Castaway Angels
Sleep Token- The offering
Sleep Token - Blood Sport ( from the room below)
This entire special is utterly amazing in so many ways.
It's time for another old masterpiece of his. Words, Words, Words would do nicely. Or a rarely mentioned gem called Nerds.
That funny feeling should be what you listen to next. Amazing, haunting and beautiful
"That's how the world works" and "that funny feeling"
Yessss you’re getting to Bo!! I hope you review “Panderin’”
It’s hilarious and so true about new country music
He’s such a genius.
I cant even sing this without cracking up so props to Bo for keeping a straight face
Watch his Inside special on Netflix. Won 3 Emmys and nominated for 6. It's so much better watching it start to end because you can see how it progresses. Watch it all at once and record your reaction to each song maybe, then just break up the songs individually for YT. There are monologues and transitions between songs and stuff :D
The lights told a story throughout the video that most people don't catch.
How to sum up the internet: Anyone can use it. Then you realize that "anyone" can use it.
That funny Feeling, by bo IS another amazing banger
Yes gave me a Barnum & Bailey vibe too
please react to bo burnham's "from god's perspective"
It's older but "can't handle this" is a really good one
Yes thank you!
Hope this brings you back around to the Bo Burnham journey his later stuff is the stuff of pure genius.
That song was the first video I sent my mom when she finally got high speed in her area 😆
OMG I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO excited for you to do Bo Burnham. All the songs from his netflix special "Inside" is amazing. I will list my recommendations and the time lengths for each
"Content" very short 1:36 but sets the pretense for the theme of this set of music
"Comedy" 5:20
"Facetime with y Mom" 2:21
"White Woman's Instagram" 4:01
"30" 2:35
"That Funny Feeling" 5:01
"All Eyes On Me: 5:03
The really creepy thing is this is essentially framed as the introduction a child gets when they get on the internet for the first time.
I remember all the free cds of AOL trials too 😅
This is such a dark themed dig at the internet and the insidious intentions and availability that it provides. The internet is our super cool crack dealer, or apathetic babysitter who just wants to keep us busy and quiet. Bo was showing how being raised with such a vast selection of information at our instant whims actually dulls us to anything that most might consider shocking.
This is specifically the specific content I have been waiting for.
