    I use to work at Enterprise and I have a card that has primary, but I get liability from the rental company so I don't pay my deductible. I did experience people totaled a car being in fault and having to pay out of pocket for not having liability.

    My Chase freedom unlimited covers any car up to $65000 and covers the car 100%.
    I parked at the mall and when I returned to my rental it was smashed in a hit and run by a semi from the side and considered salvage by DMV
    Chase paid the full value of the Nissan which was $34,000 and paid it within a week

    Liability is 17.95/day at Enterprise Rent A Car in FL. Im aware that it varies by state.

  • @rosannachung6121
    @rosannachung6121 6 лет назад +4

    Another thing to be aware of is that even credit cards that offer primary CDW often don't cover all costs associated with a damaged rental car. Depreciation/diminished value claims for the loss in value of the vehicle after the accident are usually excluded from credit card CDWs, leaving the renter stuck with the bill. A diminished value claim can end up being thousands of dollars in itself. For the most risk averse person, it may be worth it to purchase both CDW and liability from the rental company just so they can completely walk away in the event something happens.

    If you use a chase card to cover CDW, and rent from a website like Expedia; do not I repeat do not buy rental insurance from Expedia or third party. Use the card, and then if you want buy only the liability from the rental company at the counter. /// if you did buy third party insurance, that voids the card CDW insurance.

    I usually don't buy any insurance at all when I rent a car, I have CSR which covers Collision/Comp as primary and my personal insurance policy covers liability upto 100/300. Liability risk is the same as when you drive your own vehicle, 100/300 should be the minimum, many people get 15/30 which is not sufficient for liability for the reasons you covered - potential injuries, multi-vehicle etc. I do buy liability when I rarely rent overseas as my domestic policy with AAA does not cover outside the US.

I do have my own insurance BUT when I rent a car I want coverage such that if I was in an accident I can just walk away with no out of pocket, no liability and no impact on my own car insurance rates. What is such a rental car insurance called. When I am at the rental counter what do i ask for?? And what does it typically cost (compared to say daily rental rate.. is it 50% or 100% of daily rental rate). Thanks

  • @ntr6450
    @ntr6450 5 лет назад +1

    If you accept additional coverage (liability) from the car rental company the primary CDW will no longer be put to use, correct? If I understood correctly the primary CDW is only able to be used if you reject additional coverage. Please inform me if I am incorrect.

  • @nikolabj7748

    You said "Liability is not really covered anywhere else" but it should be clarified that it is, in fact, covered everywhere else outside of US: proof of full liability insurance is the renewed license plate and that is that, you are fine unless you drive drunk. There is a huge world out there. Just saying

    Hi Sebby, do you have any reviews or thought about the American Express Business benefit for Premium Rental Car Protection? From what I read, it is a rental protection of a "flat" rate up to 42 consecutive days of rental. No deductible for damage vehicles and may cover secondary medical. I have my own liability and never buy any type of insurance or protection at rental car agencies. But any word you've heard about the AMEX Premium Rental Car Protection.

    I booked a trip off expedia a few months ago with my CSP card, I declined all the insurances it offered especially the car rental ones. I have my own car insurance policy that i will use. My dilemma is that, my trip is coming up next week, and since purchasing the trip package off expedia and now, i have downgraded my CSP to a Freedom and was approved for the CSR. When i get to the car rental counter, I will be declining the additional insurances from the rental agency. but what card should i have placed for the deposit. My freedom Unlimited, or the CSR... i've read that inorder for the CDW to apply, the entire reservation must be on that card.. and since i booked my trip with my CSP which is now the same card number as my FreedomU, should i stick with that? I rather use the CSR primary CDW but since i didnt book intially using that CSR card, i doubt theyll honor the primary CDW if something happens. Whats your input on this. Thanks

    • @joaquinlopez1169
      @joaquinlopez1169 5 лет назад

      Whatever card you want to use to cover the cdw on the rental is the card you must prepay with and pay the deposit with. Otherwise the card does not have to honor the cdw it provides for a rental. If you do decide to use the credit card to cover the cdw for the rental, it is always good to purchase the renters liabilty at the counter just to be safe considering most insurance companies will not transfer the liabilty portion on vacation rentals especially if your traveling to other states; mostly states that are considered high risk

    Hi Sebby, which card do you usually use for car rentals ? I have a car in NYC so I am mostly covered when I rent somewhere else but can certainly benefit from roadside assistance or supplemental coverage offered by some credit cards. I use almost exclusively Sixt car rental and usually one of my Amex cards but now have CSR and it seems to provide better coverage. thanks for all the videos - thanks to you I have so many hotel points and miles that I will be able to travel for very little throughout the year!

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  6 лет назад

      It depends on the benefits you're optimizing: www.asksebby.com/blog/which-credit-cards-offer-roadside-assistance
      If you have a car, you'd probably want primary CDW (CSP/CSR, etc.)

      Yes. It covers "reasonable" roadside assistance in the same state (you can only rent the car 15 days or less for venture x to help you out).
      Theft/damage to vehicle that you're renting is covered, but not other vehicles. I want to say the don't pay for injury/medical bills.

    Sure I turn down the rental car's company insurance, but even with my premium credit card car insurance I always submitt my regular car insurance as my backbone car insurance when I rent. I think the confuse with some people is thinking the CC insurance is just like the regular car insurance. Then again I am a guy that keeps health and dental insurance from my regular job and my naval reserve membership.

    Hey Sebby, I don't own a car but my husband does. Enterprise carshare allows spouses to drive. I just assume that if there is any issue when he's driving it won't affect his insurance and the insurance will be via my credit card or any additional insurance I buy through Enterprise?

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  6 лет назад

      If you buy CDW and liability insurance through Enterprise, they take care of the damages (as long as you return the keys).
      Credit card- depends on the card. You'll also have to go through the claims process which takes some time.

    When a car rental company says you need "full coverage" does that include comprehensive (non accident damage, tree falls on car)? And if so, is this ever covered by credit cards? I have liability for my car already and I am trying to use my card for the others.

    • @BabyGangsterIsMe

      you are confusing. If you dont have FULL COVERAGE on your personal car insurance, they it wont cover. If u have full coverage, then it will cover CDW and liability. If not, u need to buy liablity at the counter and reject CDW ... so easy to understand... if u dont have full coverage on your personal car insurance, there is no way u have liablity for rental
