    When I was in junior high school, my automotive instructor selected two student to overhaul a Corvair engine. The shop was fully equipped with machines to do a complete engine overhaul (valve and seat grinders and etc.). It was a successful overhaul. The car was still running after I graduated from high school. I was part of it. This brought back memories. Excellent and meticulous fab!!! Your mind must be working 24-7, 365 days a year. This is going to be a fast dragster because all the weight is in the back. Thank for sharing it.

    I wish car manufacturers would hire you as a consultant to review their designs before the start making a bunch of cars. You could easily look at a design and see the issues with maintenance and save so many headaches. Some simple questions like, “How are you going to get that bolt out?” would help a bunch.

    I don't like Corvairs, but I dig SVW Bugs - so I am only half bad? I appreciate and enjoy your fab skills on both cars though. You could do a Gremlin or a Pacer and I would still check in!!

    I had a stock 1967 Corvair back in 1971, it had some of that old Cleveland Ohio decorative RUST
    That car cornered way better than the 1970 Camaro i also had at the same time
    I always wondered how it would handle if it were mid engined with a V8
    What are You going to do to Strengthen the Frontal crash area?
    I ask because in 1972 I was getting on the Freeway and did not see the 1972 Ford LTD stopped at the top of the RAMP and rear ended Him
    That pushed the whole front end back almost 2 feet and I was still able to drive it home
    I mention this from personal experience from that crash

    Hey John! I love the big and what you’re doing with this Corvair! I have a 70 bug that I’m restoring and I also inherited my dads 65 Corvair. I can’t do much work on the cars anymore because I was diagnosed with MS and it’s getting too hard. I was wondering if you may be interested in another!? I’d love the car to go to another gear head and someone who knows what they’re doing and can appreciate it because it’s very sentimental to me!
    I can’t wait to see more of this and other builds of yours!

      The headers rout to a turbo and then out the back of the car.

    I have to ask. Given the lack of drive shaft length, and the inherent restrictions to suspension travel it causes, would it not be a good idea to widen the rear quarters about 2-3 inches? You could easily do this and it would also afford you additional engine compartment room as well while keeping a stock appearance.

      It would be much easier to widen the car 4" per side and use the entire front end out of the car the engine came from. But I don't like widened fenders, it makes the project look easy. Easy is not worth anything.

    I’m not sure if you covered this before but why only one trailing arm , if you did two you could make it more like a four link and control caster correct? Then the two from the transmission would control the camber? Maybe I’m just over simplifying it.

      It's basically a room issue. No room for double A arms or other links to control toe. The swing arm has to be welded directly to the hub assembly and can't have any rod ends except for the front at the chassis. It will make more sense when you see how it all comes together.

      It will have solid motor mounts which are noisier. But the engine will be partitioned off which will help.

    Cool Build, Patiently waiting for next Video. Some of us like to watch people who know what their doing, can you do some actual working videos, then maybe time lapse, check out KSR performance & fabrication he does some time lapse stuff.

      I have footage of doing actual work but whenever I watch a video and see ppl doing work I always skip through it, even if it's at a fast play back speed. I thought everybody did that.

      I'll be sure to include some fab work if it's interesting. The early part of the fab work is rather tedious and probably boring to watch at any speed.

    Is the 4t80 trans going to hold 1000+hp?

      It will be more like 700 hp. I hope so, it's basically a 4L80. The 4T80 was designed for armored Cadillac limousines which can weigh 8k lbs. We'll see. There are some ppl using the 4T80 in front wheel drive drag cars.

    Awesome to see you're still working on the build! Swingarms, a great solution for the tight quarters. You could use a 944 torsion bar for anti-roll. Bolt a female spline in at your swing arm pivot point and run the bar horizontal between the two swingarms. This would save you from designing complex linkages behind or over the transaxle for roll control. Without anti roll and the weight of the drivetrain back there coupled with the big Kardashian tail sticking out, you would have it (roll) in spades.
    Corvairs are better looking with every passing year. A tremendous amount of fabrication to make them truly sporty, but the potential is huge! When I sell my Mustang next spring I'll start my VR6 hybrid build. I'm hoping I can shoehorn a VR6 3.6L turbo with a dual clutch paddle shifted gearbox back there maintaining the rear seat. Then put a Tesla motor on the front wheels. The electric motor would be used for reverse (removed from gearbox), torque vector steering while cornering under power, and wide open throttle acceleration. Those parameters are to have the smallest battery possible. It's going to be a steep learning curve figuring out the braking as the only source of charging being regen. I could set up for light regen at constant speed cruise. I don't want the additional weight of a plug in charging system, unless I can set up a high voltage DC charge setup. Just a vision for now.
    Regarding my VR6 Corvair design. Do you have 20 inches from the axle/wheel centerline to the back of the original rear seat before it was removed? Visually it looks like there was with the original cooling air intake area behind the seat and forward of the wheel/axle centerline. Looks perhaps closer to 30 inches from the centerline to the rear of the rear seat?
