  • Nick Hodgson of www.astrogems.com explains how he buys gemstone crystal material on the streets in the gem mining areas of Sri Lanka. the challenge is to find unheated clean non flawed crystals for cutting and faceting into beautiful gemstones.

    Loved this video, They seem like very nice people and understand the value of rough crystals. Obviously the price they ask is often too much or you would have bought a lot more. A lot of individuals do not realize that when you cut rough crystals a lot of material is wasted.

    You must have found it much easier to buy gems in Sri Lanka many years ago. As these days the locals have connections all over the world . But this was a lot of fun to watch thanks for sharing a part of your life.

    I am just starting out learning the craft of prospecting gem stones, and also the identification and jewel crafting portion at an amature hobbiest level. Thanks so much for this video, there ws some very valueable life time of lessons you shared with us. Would you be able to reccomend some reallly good places to learn accurate information on how they are identified, cut and crafted, to prospected? I have found much misleading info so far on the internet. Cheers, IC

    Mr Hodgson is a zen badass!Lol !I would be afraid ...he is calm cool assertive yet polite.Does he use any kind of security?he seems so calm and confident .I know dealing in gems in Sri lanka can be quite dangerous
