I've been to Navat in Almaty but I didn't try on the Tea Cozy. One day I'll go back to Qazaqstan and try some more food. I really enjoy your videos, love from Norway.
So kompot is made by boiling sun-dried apples in water. It doesn't have to be apples and the fruits don't have to be sun-dried, but when we say "kompot" in Almaty, we mean the sun-dried apples kind of kompot. I guess it's an acquired taste, I grew up on this stuff and I love it to death.
For ancient nomads kurt is easy way to preserve cheese in any kind of weather for a long time. You are supposed to eat very slowly with very little peaces or even keep in mouth until it dissolves. It helps to keep hydrated in hot weather.
Qurat has quite unique tast, it takes couple of tries to get used to it, or if you are familiar with salty yogurt drink called Ayran or lassi you will understand and like the taste of Qurat. I like qurat btw.
@@AshAndDan. I'm sure you like irimshik😁And qurt is quite specific and have different ways to make, but overall it's fermented dairy product and the more fermented, more specific it is. You could try bigger balls of qurt and ask if it's freshly made or not. Bigger ones (if they're fresh) are softer by texture and taste. Hard ones could be also a little bit smoked so they're not so tasty, for me at least. Anyway, we have a lot of food you are not used to, so be careful not to spoil the impression of our cuisine☺

You should check Sandyq restaurant, it's the one real kazakh cuisine. Lanzhou is Uigur/Chinese, Navat is Kyrgyz, and first place is just a cheap fast food place.

Frying our bread with oil has its own functional purposes. Because of our +2,000 years of nomadic hitory and traditions we used to travel a lot due to seasonal pastoral migrations. And in order to keep our bread fresh/not spoiled over a long time and distance, we fried them with oil. That way, our bread wont spoil of fungis.
An interesting aspect of culture. If you drink tea from a bowl, as you did in the Lanzhou cafe, you should pour only half of the bowl. Since it is believed that by pouring tea all the time, the owner of the house shows his respect to the guests. And a full bowl is poured only when it is necessary to show the guests that the gathering is over and it's time to go home

@@AijanTaijanвидимо это был черный чай с молоком и с тары (просо) по западноказахстанскому. Возможно молоко было не очень вкусное или тары не качественное, либо слишком много положили просо в чай. В целом , не правильно подали этот чай. Надо было отдельно чай с молоком в кесе принести и рядом тары (просо) в бюдце. Человек сам добавлял бы тары в чай, сколько ему необходимо для вкуса.
