A is for awesome! Loved your journey, the scenery, and architecture! Oh yeah, always great food choices and finding that coffee shop in every town you visit!
I bet you don't know that you made my day. I love Harpers Ferry. I am visiting now with my daughter and dog. Due to physical limitations I don't think I could get to Maryland Heights overlook. I loved your video thank you so much.
I love history and checking out Harper's Ferry would be high on my list of places to visit. I agree, reading about history isn't for everybody but I loved how Kate appreciates experiencing it. When I taught outdoor education, we had a living history program that focused on the effects of hydronic mining. You could read about it sure but what if you walked in their footsteps and role played the townspeople. So much fun and impactful. Adam dropping some historical names always makes me smile :) Much love to you both and again can't wait to see what's next
Oh wow that hydronic mining activity sounds super fun and up my alley! I definitely prefer more interactive ways to learn history. And we cannot wait to share what is next. One of our most epic adventures yet!
I absolutely love this! My daughter lives in the area. I live about an hour and a half from there. I come that way just to do what you are doing. It's so cool to see our beautiful state from someone else's perspective. You two are doing an amazing job representing our state! Kudos!!
The John Brown incident there is what led me to this episode. I fell into the Civil War rabbit hole and led me back to your channel which I've followed for years.
We would camp in Harper's Ferry when I was a kid every summer for a week. We would fish on the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. I'm glad y'all got to visit. I also hope you have been experiencing the friendliness of the West Virginian Folk.
I'm with Adam, I would be geeking out and reading all the plaques. Thanks for taking us along your journey through such a historical place! The fog gave it some other-worldly feel, although it would have been great to see the actual sunrise colors too! Nature is so cool! 😍
Great video you two. Been a few years since I last hiked the Maryland Heights trail, but I remember the uphill portion quite well. Views are gorgeous, and it was nostalgic watching your video. Enjoy your trip. Looking forward to seeing your next stop.
I am constantly moving back and forth between Harpers Ferry and Morgantown for class. The area is just beautiful. I highly recommend Copper's Rock State Park near Morgantown for some sun rise hikes. Several beautiful outlooks for you to choose from.
Hello Adventurers😊😊! I'm am thrilled that you visited Harper's Ferry. My brother lives in Maryland about 90 minutes from Harper's Ferry and we have been going there every year over the past 10 years and as you just witnessed, this place is absolutely SPECTACULAR! So glad that you enjoyed it. You should come to New England and explore. Great video!
Wow, that is so awesome! What are your favorite spots in Harpers Ferry? And New England was the original plan for this fall, but since some of the states have tight restrictions, we decided to save it for next year when hopefully the world is slightly more normal. We cannot wait to make it there though!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I really love exploring the town and taking in the history, hiking the Appalachian Trail through Harper's Ferry and connecting into Maryland via the footbridge, and hiking the C&O National Historical Park. Last year we had lunch at the Coffee Mill Diner and the burgers were really really good! I have also watched your video of your road trip to Big Bend National Park and Marfa, TX. Southwest Texas is on our radar for next year as we will be visiting New Orleans, San Antonio, Big Bend. Marfa, and possibly Carlsbad Caverns on our way back to RI.
The footbridge is SO cool! We loved crossing that! And that is going to be an epic road trip. We are visiting Big Bend again this winter, so stay tuned for another video with a few more ideas of things to do!
Thanks for the video! I enjoyed touring this beautiful town with you two. I like your style and how you smile when the other speaks❤Greetings from Argentina
We watched this video on a Friday night, and went to Harpers Ferry the next day. It was bitter cold, but clear, so didn't do the long hike but went to the Jefferson Rock, walked the bridge across the Potomac, and ate at Battle Grounds. Even had a Potomac sandwich. Appreciated that Kathryn mentioned the gluten free bread, as we have found gluten-free options rarer in this part of the country (we've just moved from Portland, OR). Anyway, this video inspired a great day.
Nice! Even though I grew up in Maryland years back I'm visiting this WV area soon for the first time! Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Idea for you to visit is Pine Furnace Grove area of Pennsylvania. Very pretty camping and some trails, swimming, interesting things and friendly people including a special hiker's hostel. Appalachian Trail hikers go through there a lot too. Another video is top 3 or top 5 favorite places you've visited.
Thank you so much for the PA tip! We hope to explore more of PA! And we have shared favorite places on some of our previous Q&As if you'd like to hear!
Thank you for the amazing footage of West Virginia in Harpers ferry. I’m getting ready to go play my first show over there and now I know what I’m gonna do. subscribed!
I've been through Harpers Ferry many, many times taking my son to Maryland for gaming competitions. I've never had the chance to stop, but I definitely will on our next trip. You two gave a wonderful tour of the history and beauty of the area. Excited you're coming to VA next. I live in the Shenandoah Valley, near the northern start of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I'm actually heading on the parkway this weekend to celebrate my birthday. I expect it to be beautiful, as the leaves are changing now. Safe travels!
We hope you can explore next time! It’s so beautiful! We actually took some time off in VA and just worked at our friends house, but we hope to make it back in the future to explore. We really enjoyed Shenandoah NP last time we visited!
For future reference, and for anyone inspired by this video to visit H.F. for hiking: Maryland Heights is best for a sunset hike. Loudoun Heights, located across the Potomac in Virginia, just a few miles drive from Maryland Heights, is best for a sunrise hike.
I visit HF often, and I continually find new things to see every time, and I never bore of the beauty. If others have a bit more time, you can go just a bit past the Jefferson Rock area to find Storer College, one of the first African-American colleges after the Civil War. It’s definitely worth the extra climb from downtown. Also, on a side note, I recommend the Park Mobile app for cheaper parking than the $20 train station (National Park fee) if you can find street parking. Good find on the BattleGrounds! That’s always my go-to post hike/run spot for a latte & a view.
@@AdventuresofAplusK Very true! Good point. I just found you guys after searching for a Via Ferrata video to share with my family. I’ve climbed it before but would like to take them on a day trip as well. Your videos are so nicely made so I’ll be binging for the next few weeks. Thx for sharing your adventures!
Looks like you were literally stepped back in time...very cool! Looked like there was an excavation in one building you were filming in. Enjoying your continuing adventures!
Maybe that's the next adventure y'all can do, walk the Appalachian trail... there's been a few RUclipsrs posting their adventures. They say March is the best time to start but considering this weather, I'd way til the end of March first week of April. And welcome to our state. I use to live outside of Harper's Ferry but I'm back in Charleston. So glad y'all enjoyed❤️😊
We definitely want to do a big hike like that someday. Have our eyes on some of the ones out west (PCT), but logistically with jobs and our pup it’s out of the cards for now. Maybe someday!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I recently watched a couple on the PCT and the Continental Divide trails... beautiful scenery... Definitely a change from around here from a native lol. Y'all have a great day and stay safe 🙏💗
In 2019 I rode my bicycle from Pittsburgh, PA to Washington DC on the Great Allegheny Passage/C&O Canal trails. Passed through Harper's Ferry and stayed one night there. Great spot. They rebuilt the pedestrian bridge over the river after a freight train derailment took out the entire bridge in 2019!
The PCT is definitely our #1 pick if we ever do one! We just love the diversity of the west coast so much! We should probably just start with longer backpacking trips first haha 😅 Which ones have y’all looked into?
Love your videos guys. If you pass through Parkersburg, W.V. in the summer you would like Blennerhassett state park in the middle of the Ohio river. Great job guys@
You know I was driving from Shenandoah to Gettysburg and drove past Harpers Ferry. I thought...I'll never get back here I might as well check it out. Turned around and took a look. Glad I did cuz my girlfriend and I LOVED it.
Glad you enjoyed our state ❤️ We are a friendly bunch. Best time for color change is first week of Nov. depends on how much rain we get. Some of our falls if dry aren’t that pretty.
Adventures of A plus K Charleston I noticed leaves are changing here now. Enjoy the rest of your visit. Are you all going rafting or zip lining ? That’s big here.
I actually think the fog made the view look even more epic and amazing. Watching your videos makes me wanna travel so bad. I use to travel a lot in the states on road trips with my wife, but we haven’t done a proper road trip since 2014. Now with two small kids and COVID it looks like it’ll take a while before that will happen again. I live in Denmark btw. My favorite part about traveling to the US were these less famous places, small towns etc. I mean New York City is awesome and all that but so is going across Lake Champlain on a small ferry. Or eating the best steak I’ve ever had in Livingston, Montana, or hiking around in a rainforest in Washington state. I miss it so much. Thanks for bringing me along on your adventures 🙂
We couldn’t agree more! There are so many hidden gems (or at least less popular gems) in the US, especially when it comes to nature and cool small towns. We hope that you’re able to make it back here sometime soon! And we hope we can make it your way, we really miss Europe! 🥰
Adventures of A plus K You should! I’ve reached out through Instagram before, but you should definitely come on my food and beer tour if and when you come to Copenhagen. It’ll be free of charge. Check out my short video preview here on RUclips for what I offer. Hope to see you guys at some point 🙂
Loved this video! Can’t believe I’ve never been there and I live so close! Definitely thinking about a little trip this fall! Most of the places I hike are close or include the Appalachian Trail and would definitely like to hit the AT in every state that it goes through.
We hope you can visit soon, it's such a cute little town and makes for a very fun day or weekend trip! And we agree--we'd love to hike a little bit of the AT in every state it is in!
I know this is obviously a small portion of what you guys saw but I hope you were able to visit the stores, truly amazing things to see in them. Also if you ever find yourselves back in Harper's Ferry, theres a nice hike passing Jefferson Rock!
Love sunrise hikes! (Well I do...Matt will if he has to.). We just did one in RMNP. Neat getting to walk on the AT. We have hiked a few sections in GSMNP. Beautiful hike once you can see. Really great overlook! That town is super cute!! 3 states in one morning! FUN!!! Yummy food for your after-hike breakfast! Thanks for the tour of town up close too! Cool! We love history and seeing it is better than reading it. Our friends at PANICd Paranormal History have been to Jefferson Rock too. We will have to get there sometime! Make a great day! You are not replaceable! Kay
@@AdventuresofAplusK We camped at Glacier Basin and drove up to Bear Lake for a Sunrise Hike. It was an epic sunrise on the lake. Nice easy walk /hike to start our day! Death Valley at Sunrise is epic too!
@@AdventuresofAplusK It is! BUT so crowded and hard to Physical Distance from people. So, going in the morning before daybreak was a great option. Still wore masks on the hikes, but well worth our time and energy to go.
Hey I’m wanting to do this hike soon and just wondered if you can purchase a ticket to park at 6 in the morning or would this have to be purchased the day before.
I first watched this video over a year ago when my husband I were researching Harper’s Ferry. We have yet to make it out there but we’re avid and proud A+K fans!
Great vlog...the history and scenery were awesome! That spider web at the beginning was creepy but cool! Was it real? I’m very impressed...I just want to know how the heck you can get your body down that low to the ground period not to mention with one leg out...way to go Kathryn on that pistol squat!!!
It was real! Probably the prettiest spider web I’ve ever seen! Definitely creepier with the foggy vibes 🕷🕸 I am not sure how I did the pistol squat, especially with my messed up hip! Lol! Maybe all of my dancing to “get low” at weddings has helped me 🤣🤣
@@AdventuresofAplusK btw after the bridge take a left on the o&c trail about a mile down great tent spot spent some few rest days there swam across to wv too keep hiking maybe we will pass I'm bawston
just curious, with all the exploring you did in harpers ferry, was it free to go into the historical places, building, etc. or is there a fee to do all that? how did you get that map you had with you? looking to possibly make a trip there next spring and trying to get everything in order, costs, fees, parking, etc. thanks
A couple reasons! It was on our route between seeing my family in Indiana and seeing my best friend in Virginia, so that got us thinking about it, but a lot of it was because we really enjoy sharing places that others may not know much about or that may not be as popular. And once we saw photos of the nature, we were sold!
That’s our goal! We’re eager to hop on a plane to another country, but there are a lot of really amazing places in the US and it has been fun visiting ones that we hadn’t considered visiting before.
@@AdventuresofAplusK We just got back from Wyoming and had watched your Delta Lake hike video and we ended up doing that hike, it was a bitch but SO worth it so thanks for what you do!
Thanks Edle! We wrote a bit about our pup in this blog post. adventuresofaplusk.com/full-time-van-life-with-a-dog-tips-for-traveling-with-a-dog/ If you have any additional questions about things we didn’t cover in it, let us know!
Any chance you remember any spots to gaze out at the city at from a distance without having to hike? I'd love to take my mom for a visit and see it from a distance but she can't walk very much (much less hike) and we don't have too long so I was hoping we could just park somewhere, get out of the car and take a look before leaving.
That's a tricky one. We don't know of any spots that overlook the area without walking or hiking. If you can walk a little the railroad bridge gives a good view of the confluence as does the River Trail. Both trails are accessible.
I’m moving to martinsburg, WV later this summer and I’m loving looking up places to visit! I currently live in Anchorage, Alaska and I’ll definitely miss. I’m originally from Virginia though so it’ll be close to some familiar spots as well 😁
Great video! You are somewhat close to us (we are about 45 min drive East). Not sure if you are still in the area but if you need anything, let us know!
as soon as I saw that dog I subscribed. Lol. So freaking cute. I've only seen like 14 seconds of one of your videos, but you should make sure that dog is in the first 15 seconds of every video and you'll probably get a lot of subscribers just on him (or her) alone.
Stumbled upon this video since my partner and I will be heading down to Harpers Ferry this week! Also, has anyone told you that you look just like actress Katherine Waterston??
Adam it might help if you take off the backpack to pistol squat, you're slightly off balance with it on. Oh and a question, where did you get your mask (Adam's)? I like that it looks like a scarf/collar.
Hahahah he is blaming his failure on the backpack 😉 We got those at REI. They are called Buffs and are popular for outdoor activities to cover your face. It’s really great for hiking and much easier to pull up and down than a traditional mask is.

Oh that sounds like an awesome trip! That would be fun to do some time!
I'm putting Harper's Ferry on my bucket list.
Woo! Happy to hear that! 🎉
You guys should totally do the AT! We’ve been looking into through-hikes recently and that would be so cool to watch you guys do
The PCT is definitely our #1 pick if we ever do one! We just love the diversity of the west coast so much! We should probably just start with longer backpacking trips first haha 😅 Which ones have y’all looked into?
Adventures of A plus K We’re pretty set on doing the CDT! The Rockies have too much of our hearts haha
Oh wow, I hadn’t even heard of that one! That looks epic and right up our alley! 😍
Adventures of A plus K You should do that one! It’s the most difficult but to us has the most payoff. You end in Canada 😍
We would love to! We would just feel so bad to leave Kona for that long. And pretty sure I’d get fired from my job 🤣 But maybe someday!
Lots of historical sites to visit with nice hikes to go along with.
I call that a pretty good day😊🍁
We love when we get a nature + “city” experience in one day!
Harper's Ferry is famous for its history.
Its beauty is a wonderful discovery.
It’s a great historical city!
We loved our visit to Harpers Ferry!
Love your videos guys. If you pass through Parkersburg, W.V. in the summer you would like Blennerhassett state park in the middle of the Ohio river.
Great job guys@
Ooo thanks for the tip! 🙌🏼
You know I was driving from Shenandoah to Gettysburg and drove past Harpers Ferry. I thought...I'll never get back here I might as well check it out. Turned around and took a look. Glad I did cuz my girlfriend and I LOVED it.
Harpers Ferry is such a fun spot!
Glad you enjoyed our state ❤️ We are a friendly bunch. Best time for color change is first week of Nov. depends on how much rain we get. Some of our falls if dry aren’t that pretty.
We are thinking we are definitely a bit too early for some parts of the state, but that’s ok! It’s still oh so beautiful! 😍
Adventures of A plus K I’m enjoying your videos
We are so glad to hear that! What part of the state are you from?
Adventures of A plus K Charleston I noticed leaves are changing here now. Enjoy the rest of your visit. Are you all going rafting or zip lining ? That’s big here.
Thank you for sharing your visit to Harpers Ferry!!!
Of course! Thank you for watching! 🤗
Absolutely! We try to avoid filming every little thing so we can enjoy it without a camera as well 😄
Born and Bred West Virginian...Welcome to our BEAUTIFUL STATE.
Thank you so much Lisa! We love it here! ❤️
@@AdventuresofAplusK Canaan Valley State Park is STUNNING.. if you get the chance when you are here. HAVE A BLAST IN YOU TRAVELS.
Thank you Lisa! We visited that area, but not that park, and loved it! Sooo beautiful!
Kay
Hahaha they are brutal, but always worth it! Even if foggy! What hike did you do at RMNP? We loved it there and need to go back!
@@AdventuresofAplusK We camped at Glacier Basin and drove up to Bear Lake for a Sunrise Hike. It was an epic sunrise on the lake. Nice easy walk /hike to start our day! Death Valley at Sunrise is epic too!
Bear Lake is one of the few spots we have been to! It’s gorgeous there!
@@AdventuresofAplusK It is! BUT so crowded and hard to Physical Distance from people. So, going in the morning before daybreak was a great option. Still wore masks on the hikes, but well worth our time and energy to go.
We know the feeling! Some trails are hard to get distance. Our buffs have been a lifesaver while hiking!
Great video. So much history! Loved it.
So glad y’all enjoyed it! There is a lot of history, especially for its size!
Love my beautiful state! Also great job guys! Awesome video
Thank you so much! It’s so gorgeous there!
Never been to West Virginia, visiting a buddy out here . I am 100% visiting here on my way out I can’t wait . I teach history so it’s gonna be fun
West Virginia is super underrated if you ask us!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I only had like an hour and a half in Harper’s ferry cause I had other things but it was super cool!
My town! 😊 Glad you enjoyed your time here.
What a cool place to live! 🙌🏼
Thank you, Courtney! We hope you can make it out there soon!
Great video, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching TJ! 😄
Definitely creepier with the foggy vibes 🕷🕸
I am not sure how I did the pistol squat, especially with my messed up hip! Lol! Maybe all of my dancing to “get low” at weddings has helped me 🤣🤣
Had a great time hiking in Harper's next time at the bakery go for the pizza!! God bless guys
Mmmm pizza! 🍕
@@AdventuresofAplusK btw after the bridge take a left on the o&c trail about a mile down great tent spot spent some few rest days there swam across to wv too keep hiking maybe we will pass I'm bawston
just curious, with all the exploring you did in harpers ferry, was it free to go into the historical places, building, etc. or is there a fee to do all that? how did you get that map you had with you? looking to possibly make a trip there next spring and trying to get everything in order, costs, fees, parking, etc. thanks
Great early morning hike. Cool overlook!
Love when a hike mixes nature and city!
Harpers ferry looks amazing the hike looked pretty cool through 3 STATES! I probably will try when I’m there!!!
Isn't that nuts?! Really cool spot!
I’m going there for my birthday
Thanks for giving me a peak of it
Woohoo! Another great video.
Thank you so much! 😊😊
The structures in the river were old bridges. Also, it is two rivers that run in to each other under that bridge, the Shenandoah meets the Potomac!
The confluence of rivers is super cool!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I love that someone took the time to make an awesome vlog of Harpers Ferry! Hope you enjoyed
We loved it, such a cool and beautiful town! Thank you so much for watching! 🥰
Not to get off the whole subject but where did you get and what is the sub in the beginning of video?
That's a West Virginia style hot dog from Yann's! We ate it in this video: ruclips.net/video/2ge50lMNx_U/видео.html
Welcome to our home state. We live 45 minutes northwest in the town of Falling Waters. Please visit again.
Thank you for the welcome! ❤️
Wow, what a cool town for history! Just said to my husband, we have to go there! Not too far from us in eastern Pennsylvania!
Not too far at all! It’s such a cool town!
@@AdventuresofAplusK looked it up, 3 hours from us! Future trip!👍😊
Woo! We hope y’all love it! Let us know when you go 😄
Nature looks so good! Nice vlog!
Thank you! 😄
My inner history nerd would definitely come out if I went there! What inspired you to visit West Virginia?
A couple reasons! It was on our route between seeing my family in Indiana and seeing my best friend in Virginia, so that got us thinking about it, but a lot of it was because we really enjoy sharing places that others may not know much about or that may not be as popular. And once we saw photos of the nature, we were sold!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I think you're definitely inspiring a lot of people to go, especially since domestic travel is the thing right now
That’s our goal!
YAY! So pumped you did that hike! It's pretty brutal, but that water + the peaks around it are so stunning!
Very good video, love to know a little about your dog and habits he has on the road.
Thanks Edle! We wrote a bit about our pup in this blog post. adventuresofaplusk.com/full-time-van-life-with-a-dog-tips-for-traveling-with-a-dog/ If you have any additional questions about things we didn’t cover in it, let us know!
What a cute lil doggie 🐶
I’m originally from Virginia though so it’ll be close to some familiar spots as well 😁
That's awesome! We hope you have a great move and enjoy the new spots to check out!
Great video! I will definitely put this on my bucketlist! Stay safe
-Kris
Let us know if you ever make it there!
@@AdventuresofAplusK oh I definitely will! I will check out your other videos too!
I hope you make it to Frederick, MD. Another great civil war town with a lot of great restaurants!
We unfortunately aren’t able to make it to MD this time, but we have heard awesome things about Frederick and cannot wait to make it there!
Awesome couple!
❤️❤️❤️
Great video! You are somewhat close to us (we are about 45 min drive East). Not sure if you are still in the area but if you need anything, let us know!
Ah nice!!! We have moved south a bit, but super appreciate that!
I heard about this town for the first time on CNN(most underrated destinations). This really is a beautiful spot. Only Surpassed by the PNW.
as soon as I saw that dog I subscribed. Lol. So freaking cute. I've only seen like 14 seconds of one of your videos, but you should make sure that dog is in the first 15 seconds of every video and you'll probably get a lot of subscribers just on him (or her) alone.
haha we'll keep that in mind. Should we change the channel name to Adventures of Kona while we're at it? 😜 thanks and thanks for watching!
Looks great guys
Have Fun
How long will you be in WV
We have just a couple more days and then we’re heading more south!
AYYY Awesome. I live here! :D cool watching an outsiders view.
Such a cool area!
Nice guys, keep it going
Thank you Lonnie! 😄
Did you guys check out the John Brown Museum
Not this time unfortunately.
Stumbled upon this video since my partner and I will be heading down to Harpers Ferry this week! Also, has anyone told you that you look just like actress Katherine Waterston??
I’ve never heard that actually! Quite a few people say Pam from the Office lol
About half a mile over yonder is the town of Charlestown, W.Va. were my uncle lives and John Brown was hanged ...
We would love to explore more of the historic areas in this region!
@@AdventuresofAplusK thanks and by the way Kathryn you rocked the pistol squat!!! Did Adam try again without the pack? 🤔☺
He didn’t haha, but he is fairly confident he can’t do one regardless 😉
What do you do with your dog when you visit all the places.
We have a blog post that talks all about that! 😊
adventuresofaplusk.com/full-time-van-life-with-a-dog-tips-for-traveling-with-a-dog/
Hope that helps!
Curious, why not wait until first light to begin?
We were hopeful to hit the overlook for first light. It didn’t work out this time, but we beat the crowds and had it to ourselves, so it was worth it!
@@AdventuresofAplusK okies
