👻👻👻👻 I tried this blend after buying Sutliff’s Silver Quarter and loving it. To me, this is very comparable for a fraction of the price. Actually, scratch that. I prefer it over Silver Quarter and Escudo. Wonderful burn, 2 coins rubbed out gives me about 40 minutes of smoke time. Moisture level for me was perfect. The virginias and cavendish make it sweet without being overpowering, with the perique adds some wonderful baking spice. It reminds me of Pan De Muerte bread my mother made when I was a kid. This is a great blend to practice the breathe method on and really hone your cadence. Now I have 2lbs to smoke and 5lbs cellaring, will always be in my rotation.

👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 out of 5. 2 coins folded a stuffed in a Savenelli Tundra 624 9mm with no filter (spacer). Sweet fruity grassy start, mellows into light spice (pepper) and leather with slight sweetness. Perique is noted on the retrohale. Best smoked at a slow breathe method or with light sips. Overall a very nice and reasonably priced VaPer in class with Escudo and Peterson Navy rolls at a more comfortable price. Jars and ages very well.

👍👍👍👍👍. Absolutely love this stuff. Been smoking for 6 months and this is the first Virginia blend I’ve been able to smoke without tongue bite. I bought a pound of it.

😊😊😊😊 This was a blend that really surprised me. The virginias give it that sweet bread main note. The perique and cavendish work together quite well. They provide a sweet and spicy undertone to the smoke. This is a great blend for everyday smoking or as a break from the overly cased aromatics or latakia forwaed english blends.

I am usually fairly conservative on how I pack my pipe, assuming that flakes and coins were intended to be rubbed out thoroughly before packing and lighting. However a friend of mine recommended I try a little different approach with this tobacco. Remove the center of black cavendish before rubbing out the virginia and perique. After loading the first pinch, place the piece of black cavendish in the bowl before loading the second and third pinches. Then as you are enjoying the nice flavor profile of the Virginia and Perique, you will eventually hit the spot where the disc of black cav is sitting and experience a nice sugary sweet surprise. Kind of fun. Keep puffin.

🖤🖤🖤🖤 I am kind of new-ish and have enjoyed this tobacco twice. Nicotine wise it seems a bit strong- not cigar strong but close. I tried rolling it out and the three taps method and I tried the fold and stuff method for filling. The fold and stuff method created a delightful experience. Flavors shifted and changed as I smoked. Rolling it out seemed to create a consistent flavor. Personally, I enjoyed folding and stuffing method. The journey that came with the shifting flavors was just awesome.

4 out 5 for me too. I’m surprised at just how long one coin can last (30-45mins). I use the trifold method instead of ready rub. Good stuff! Like you said the price is right too.

💖💖💖💖💖 Definitely one of my favorites! I've been smoking this regularly for over a year now, and I'm very familiar with it. The taste is great, it burns well and pretty slowly for me, and it doesn't bite me. I use the "ball & stuff" method to load the pipe: I roll a coin in my fingers then stuff it into the bowl and tamp it gently. Then I repeat with the second coin. I, too, usually use 2 coins. I have had very little trouble with the lighting mechanics of this blend, but how it smokes and even how it tastes seems to vary depending on the pipe I'm using. I've found that my pipes with tall, relatively narrow bowls work best with this blend. Experiment and see what pipe in your arsenal works best for you. Two coins in such a pipe will last about an hour for me, sipping it, of course. The flavors that Muttonchop mentioned are all there. But the kicker for me is that little cavendish disk at the center. When I ball and stuff the coins, I never know where that disk is. When I hit it, I can tell - I get this wonderfull little blast of sweetness that is different from, but complementary to, the sweetness provided by the Virginias. I think it is a very good blend at a great price point. If you like VaPers, you'll like the Bullseye! I can't recommend it enough!

💥💥💥💥 4.5 it's a very awesome smoke, is strong enough, flavorfull enough and burns well when rubbed or folded. I have noticed if my cadence is too quick it can turn ashy quite quickly.
Ages well and is a reliable great blend.

$$$$ I smoke PS luxury twist flake on a regular basis and this is the first time that I’ve tried luxury bullseye flake. This is a wonderful blend and I will definitely be stocking up on it in the future. I would have to agree with everything you said in your review. I get a little spice in the mouth feel but not as much in the retrohale which is nice. Smoke it slowly and you’ll have a better experience. Very enjoyable!! Great review MC!

Slightly spicy, sweet fruit. The cavendish doesn't really have its own flavor, but changes that of the blend when you hit it. Very good smoke. This encouraged me to buy a pound for cellaring and I'm glad to have it.

No tongue bite and I get tongue bite from eating catchup lol. This and luxury twist flake are my two favorite tobaccos at the moment.

👍👍👍👍 I have been avoiding tobaccos with Perique and am initially impressed. But I am very grateful for the breath method. Not sure if its the Perique stinging or if its tongue bite. Easy to keep lit. I find the aroma to be pleasing and the taste enjoyable. I will need to smoke a few more bowls to learn to get past the spice. However, this is a very relaxing smoke to me.

😂😀😀😀Great review, I have been a pipe smoker since March of 2018. This particular blend was maybe the 4th or 5th blend that I tried and I had some leftover so I was able to enjoy it with you during this video. I was able to get the same flavors as you did except for the bread flavor. For someone that is a new pipe smoker,I highly recommend you go back and watch mutton-chop Piper's video on the breathing technique of smoking a pipe. You'll thank me later and you'll thank him also. His breathing technique will bring out so much more of the flavors of tobaccoespecially when you're a new pipe smoker like I was back in March of 2018. This particular tobacco blend I recommend for a new pipe smoker using the breathing technique that mutton-chop Piper recommends. I want to add this alsothis particular blend ages well in Mellows out a little bit in a mason jar. I purchased mine in April of 2018, I smoked it today with this video of what I have left and it smoked so much smoother in mellower and the flavors really came out better. For those that are new to pipe smoking this is a recommended tobacco order enough to age in a mason jar you can also get that video from mutton-chop Piper on how to do that. I was highly surprised at how a few months makes a difference in the flavor of a tobacco I was under the impression it would take years but that's not true just a few months makes a little bit of a difference.

👴🏻👴🏻👴🏻👴🏻As a fairly new pipe smoker I started with aromatics. Then tried English and liked the Latakia. My first Va was all Virginia and didn’t especially enjoy it. I tried a bowl of perique for fun and didn’t like it. Then I discovered VaPers and... boom. Hooked. Luxury Twist, Escudo, Dunhill Navy rolls , and now this. This one is very good, and easy to see why so many great reviews. Will be fun trying more blends, but if I stopped looking now I’d be fine.

    ☯️☯️☯️☯️/5
    First blend club review!
So far I've smoked two bowls of this. The first time I broke it apart and the second I did a fold and stuff. The second bowl was a bit more enjoyable but less balanced. The best comparison I could come up with is if you've ever had a white Russian. Sometimes you can get them stirred evenly so it's the same flavor all the way through or sometimes you can get them not blended so it has a stronger top with a nice sweet finish. You can't go wrong with either, but sometimes you might be in the mood for one or the other.
Anyways, the second time is when I really "got" what this blend was doing. What its apparent goal seems to be is an attempt at a balanced Va/Per and in this endeavor Peter Stokkebye exceeds above and beyond. It leans slightly towards the brighter side because of the young Virginia's, but the Cavendish really helps reign it in, even if just a little. The va/per combo is very nice here and is one of the creamiest smokes I've had even without aging (only been pipe smokin for about a year, so take that with a grain of salt). When broken up and not stuffed the Cavendish only adds to the creamy smoothness of this smoke.
If you smoke it using the fold and stuff method, you may notice the Cavendish itself has a very subtle and sweet chocolaty note. Other than that the Cav has very little in the way of flavor and it isn't intended to. It seems to me that it's main goal is to cut back some of the Perique's spiciness. The Virginia's are probably the most noticeable part of the blend, making up the body of the smoke. There's nothing fancy going on here if you've ever had bright Va's. The characteristic hay and grassy notes shine through here while the Perique backs it up with some dark fruity and peppery flavoring with the addition of its signature tingle. I think the cavendish helps to deepen the smoke, even if just a little. It's nothing like the deep flavor of Old Dark Fired (Mac Baren - HH), but it adds just a bit more that you might miss if you were looking for it.
Overall, I think Peter Stokkebye has achieved a wonderfully mild and balanced smoke. I wouldn't call it an all day / every day kinda smoke, but I could see this being enjoyed at anytime. Though, I might suggest that it's probably best after a meal. Personally, I can't smoke Va/Per's on an empty stomach and I attribute this to the odd (if enjoyable) nature/flavor of Perique. The nicotine is also at a nice medium level, but I do get a slight nic-hit if I smoke this one too fast. If you are looking for an expertly balanced smoke, this might be you're next favorite.

😤😤😤😤 I had this for the first time back in November 2017 & Loved it fresh when I just folded/ball'd it up in my pipe. Now the exact same jar that's been tucked away almost a year is fantastically better & more flavorful. I have rubbed it out & tried it that way but you get less of a Cavendish suprise hit. I like it when you're smoking it & it you taste the VaPar and then unknowingly boom you hit the Cavendish & you're like WoW! Then it picks back up & blends into the VaPar again. I like that better than it all being blended/rubbed together. That's just how I enjoy this blend. The tobacco was just right(goldilocks) for me, not wet & not dry. I didn't get any nicotine hit or rush at all. I found the flavors to be raisin & bran/bread like until I hit that Cavendish then I get a sweet burst. I find 2 coins work perfect for me & last a good hour just sipping it & relaxing with a hot glass of unsweet green tea. Enjoy!

🥨🥨🥨🥨🥨 Smooth, mild but not weak, flavorful. Personally, I only get spicy notes when I retro-hale. Muttonchop said it, others below said it, and guess what? I'm tellin you this stuff is ALWAYS the perfect moisture level out of the baggie. This is my daily smoker. Rubbing it works fine, but at the suggestion of another reviewer, I just tried stuffing a coin. It's great. Either way, it behaves well in the bowl. If it has a downside, I find the bowl always goes too quickly!

😁😁😁 😁 Good regular smoke. I heard good things about this some, and I agree. Not too heavy, which is the best part of it. It took me a while to learn the mechanics of pipe tobacco wetness, and I've learned a lot from Mutton Chop Piper's other videos. Good one to start my night after work.

This tobacco is naturally sweet with a hint of spice to keep it interesting. I find it’s pretty good right out of the bag but 5-10 min drying time will make it perfect. This will be my go to Va/per from now on due to the price.

Didn’t like the room note so much as it was a little harsh going up my nose.

:-) :-) :-) :-) My 4 rating could have been a 5 but my tobacco was wet. even after sitting out for 15 min it still burned wet. This lead to too many relights and too hard of draw to wipe the embers back up. 1 hour dry time changes everything. Smoked well and the room note was enjoyable. This is the perfect blend for those transitioning from aromatic tobaccos.

  • @jamesherbert1628

🎃🎃🎃🎃Fantastic smoke with notes of Carmel brown sugar and cream from the Cavendish, sweet lemony hay like aroma on the retrohale from the virginia, and just a feathery touch of spiciness and bread on the pallet from the perique. When smoked rubbed out the flavor and aroma seem to sway very slightly between the va/per and the Cavendish like hitting pockets of both types of tobacco with a mild sweetness throughout the bowl. When smoked by fold and stuff method the pockets of Cavendish are more pronounced with a richer sweetness and a stronger caramelly creamylike flavor while the va/per is more spicy, bready, and haylike. The two are easily distinguished in this blend and cut. Excellent smoke for anyone. New pipe smokers can learn and taste the difference between the tobacco's without it being too harsh. This is a very enjoyable smoke and not harsh at all when smoked very gently. No bite for me. This is also an inexpensive smoke and absolutely on par in quality flavor and enjoyability if not better than some similar expensive tobaccos I've tried before. Definitely in my top 10 favorites. Thank you Mr. Muttonchop. Happy piping!😁👍

Overall Rating: 💀💀💀 1/2. I found this tobacco to be a pleasant transition from aromatic blends in terms of taste, room note and “tin” note. What keeps this from being a 4 or more comes down to mechanics. It is temperamental in terms of properly packing and lighting. I would sometimes get the “goldilocks” pack, then be way off the next time. Time and experience should take care of this. I recommend this blend for all pipe smokers, especially from those wanting to venture out from aromatic blends.
Package Note: 💀💀💀💀💀. Since this tobacco is bulk, I smelled it in the packaging. Initial smell is of sweet, molasses coated grains like oats. The sweetness is primarily from the Virginia, but a sweet note of brown sugar could be detected from the Black Cavendish. As I continued, I could pick out notes of bread and cereal grains, but not grassy or hay-like associated with bright Virginias. Notes of dried, fermented fruits also was detectable like raisins, prunes, and figs. This is attributed to the perique in the blend. Almost no spicy notes were detected. This is a very pleasant tobacco to smell in the package and is one of my favorites to smell unsmoked.
Mechanics: 💀💀. The tobacco came with the proper moisture content, at least mine did. Coins are moderately packed tight and for the most part, hold their shape with normal handling. One may fold-and-stuff, or choose to rub out. I chose to rub out for smoking selecting 2 coins to pack my pipe. I would have some left that went back into the package. Packing can be tricky; this tobacco acts like Kraft Parmesan cheese in that it wants to clump back together. So, be cautious. Lighting was also tricky, both the char light and true light. Some of my bowls had a hard time staying lit and required numerous re-lights while others were fine and required very few re-lights. With the tricky packing and the presence of Virginias, the blend had a tendency to bite me. However, I got bit in 2 ways; traditional tongue bite and spicy bite. With the traditional tongue bite, I am sensitive to drinking liquids and the bite was focused on the tongue and happened usually within the first quarter of the bowl. As I became more experienced with packing, lighting and smoking, this went away. I’ll discuss spicy bite in the flavor section. Due to mechanics, I would not take this blend on the road with me, and keep this as a home blend where I can sip and savor.
Room Note: 💀💀💀. (4 from me, 2 from the wife) I found the room note to be pleasant to tolerable. However, I like the smell of burning pipe tobacco, so I am a bit generous. This tobacco carries the sweetened grains smell from the package to the room note. My wife, who is very sensitive to tobacco smoke, was tolerant of this blend, but preferred other blends above this one.
Taste: 💀💀💀💀. Coming from smoking aromatics and wanting to explore the divergent nature of other blend types, but not ready for English blends with latakia, I decided to try VA-pers first. This is the first non-aromatic blend I ever tried. I was not disappointed in the flavors. The Virginias are definitely up front with flavors of sweet grains with a hint of hay. Watching my cadence and using my sip-n-savor method, I was able to finally kick the heated tongue bite. The Virginias do have an … immature hint. In my opinion, they are a bit harsh and could use some aging. The perique added hints of dried fruits in the background such as raisins and even figs. I wasn’t able to get and spicy taste from it. However, I noticed that after the ½-way point in a bowl, I started to develop tongue bite. But, it was all over my palate, including all the way back to my throat. But, I didn’t have the reaction to liquids that I have with traditional tongue bite. Then, I realized that perique can imbue a peppery quality to the smoke. Then I realized I wasn’t getting tongue bite, my palate was reacting the very same way to the perique as it does when it encounters a large quantity of black pepper. This was a bit of a surprise to me and added a different dimension to the mouth feel of the blend. The black Cavendish really doesn’t add much, if anything to the flavor. Every once in a while, I could taste a burst of brown sugar-like quality, but it wouldn’t last.

:), :), :), :), :) - First off, I love all of the PS luxury tobaccos. Found this to be a medium, full flavored smoke. Good grassy notes of the VA, with the peppery taste of the perique. Using a fold and stuff method, you get a good mix of flavor as the bowl burns down. Safe Travels. - Bud d;^)

😀😀😀fresh... 😀😀😀😀 after 1 year aged in a mason jar. Highly recommend this and the twist flake like the Muttnchip guy says. Medium taste, medium to mild nic hit for me.

I rated 4 out of 5 before I even saw your review. To me, it's like a "darker" flavored Orlik golden slice. Golden slice is a daily favorite and this compares but less citrus, more sweet.
Funny, the ones I rate at 4 I want everyday, 5 are better tasting but I don't want everyday(g.l. please Westminster).... not sure if I should adjust my rating system now that I realise that.

I give this blends 🍩🍩🍩.5. I'm a big fan of VaPers. P'S. Escudo does not contain Cavendish. It's a pure VaPer.

🥵 1/5 I’m a aromatic guy venturing out of my comfort zone. I get a salty sour taste. Not sure if it’s supposed to taste that way. And I definitely get the spice. Wow is it spicy. No bread or sweetness. Do I need to cellar this for it to be good?

☹️☹️ Bites me. Even with age. If it doesn’t bite you it’s a great value.
