I agree with the comments here. I'm in my 41st year of teaching music--everything from kindergarten to doctoral students. Of the many things I appreciate about André Rieu is that he and his audiences believe that these beautiful melodies and arrangements are for everyone. They need to be passed on to the next generation. So many young people in his audiences--I am happy to see.

This is the prettiest and most cheerful looking orchestra set up I've ever seen; the stands are so pretty, and the performers aren't all in black, but the women get to wear colorful froofy dresses and they all look like they're having a lot of fun!
According to one of the many interviews and articles done on/about Andre Rieu, he chooses all the gowns the ladies wear, getting them in various sizes, and then he sometimes suggests which lady would look best (or really good) in which gown(s).He's done that for years, and it works well for everyone involved.
I am the central skater in white hat and skimpy outfit and also the violinist in green. Andre was kind enough to invite me to guest with his superb orchestra, so deserves all the credit! Andre Rieu truly loves classical music, and he wants the rest of us love it too. He and his orchestra bring the music out in the open, and they have fun sharing the great ranges of beauty and emotion. I would not be much for going to concerts, but when I watch one of Rieu's on TV, I am always delighted. Bravo!
André and his orchestra are such a tight knit team that he barely "conducts" yet everything down to the pauses stays in perfect time. They are all genius. The Skaters Waltz took me back 60 years to when I played it on the piano. I sat down at the piano today and played it without manuscript with tears streaming down my face. Such beautiful music.

It seems that everything this man touches turns to musical gold. I had an opportunity to see him live in Australia 20 years ago & I foolishly passed up the chance as I didn't know how wonderful his shows were. I thought he was a modern Mantovani at the time & not a real classical musician. Well, that was a mistake wasn't it?

Why does Rieu seem to have a dislike for pianos? The piano is located way WAY to the left of the orchestra, away from it all. Of the hundreds of performances I've watched, the piano player is rarely shown. Maybe 1 out of 20 performances you might get a quick shot of the piano. She is a brilliant player and never gets the attention and recognition she deserves. Sad, very sad.
