Riley was accepted by the skate community without much issues because he was true skater punk. He’s a great skater with a good style. Tony was okay on street but had a bad street style. But Tony got mad respect just for hitting the streets .

Totally agreed, good take. I’m so impressed with Tony’s street skating given his age and the fact that he’s a transition guy

Riley’s legit, super gnarly, has great style, big pop, truly an elite pro skateboarder, he would’ve been a pro skater regardless of who his dad was

Riley is one of my absolute favorite skateboarders! So glad he went with it!

Riley was accepted purely on his skill and talent! The fact Tony is his dad is a non factor! He wanted to make a name for himself, He didn't wanna be known as Tony Hawks Son. And by god he has!

Riley’s a Rad Skater with Genuine Style & deserves his Pro Career, just like his old man. Look at Hawk’s earliest bowl vids, where he keeps trying until he either breaks himself, his equipment or lands the trick & repeats. Tony had immense desire. he had to overcome much BS from older kids that thought him privileged, due to his Dad’s skateboarding stature, but his BadAssedness carried him into Stacy’s world. I wanted nothing more than to be a Bones Brigade member in ‘88, but thought living in the ATL area made that impossible…I didn’t know the story of Mullen, or maybe I would’ve sent vids in to Stacy, like countless other kids did that were 100x better than I was. I only mimicked the Brigade (mediocrely) instead of being brave enough to Natas or Mike V myself into magazines. Tony’s the Greatest Ambassador of Skateboarding, hands down, though he wouldn’t have been without the OG predecessors (Jay, Stacy, Alva, etc…) y’all know who they are.

Cool interview but Howie calling her stupid was really unnecessary and she seemed afraid to say what she wanted like "eating sh-t" slipped out and she looked panicked and immediately apologized. Howie also seemed dumb.

you learn how to fall after awhile and the impacts thanks to adrenaline and that skill of falling, doesnt really hurt that much. and sense most of these dudes on that lvl are constantly going at it i think the body just learns to deal with the shock of heavy falls.

    • @joemckim1183

Its similar to pro wrestling in the fact that you know how to take the falls and your body gets calloused up to where it can handle the bumps more.
