If I were to redesign the logo for this station, I'd replace both O's with CBS eyes, put a semi-circle beneath the letter I, and give the station a new slogan: "You're watching WOIO CBS 19, The Face of Cleveland!"
I remember picking up WKYC 3 and WEWS 5 at home in Clinton Twp., Michigan via rooftop antenna on the TV in the basement and in the family room. I never seen a newscast on either one that has the affiliation change with 8 and 19. It was August about a month before the affiliate change catching an episode of Rescue 911 on WOIO 19 and was still FOX and sometimes it can pick up every once in a while.
So...who did this switch benefit more? CBS got the NFL back a few months later while FOX got an O&O out of WJW (striking out any chance of a switch back, if they were ever want to). For a while, WBNX benefited from WJW not wanting the children's programming, and they became one of the biggest Kids stations for a while with FOX Kids and Kids WB. WOIO got a pretty stable news division out of it, too. I guess the two stations were happy with the networks they got. Like the notion that they were trying to sell the CBS affiliation with Letterman, too.
Marie Pavlov yeah, they did. That was a few years out, though. CBS struggled a bit at this point. Not only did they lose the NFL and MLB, but that was when NBC started to have some dominance. 98 was when CBS started to get their footing again, but it was tough for them to find a new identity before that.
Wasn't watching TV much when this change occured. Thanks for sharing.
And just like that, CBS went to WOIO Channel 19 in Cleveland, OH.

JD Shadow, CBS got the NFL back a few years later, in 1998.

add on top of that, a few years before 1994, in 1990, was also when CBS lost the network TV rights of the National Basketball Association (NBA) to NBC
WOIO did struggle with the newscasts between 1995 and 2002. It wasn't Action News showed up that the station became more competitive.
WOIO CBS 19 owned by gray Television group
More than 30 minutes ago, Kazuki was an anime.
