This was one of my favorite maps, flying was one of the funnest things to do but the limited number of aircraft meant standing around doing nothing on the airfield waiting for someone to die. If I remember correctly, pitch and roll were controlled with the mouse, it wasn't based on the cursers x or y positions, but their velocity. So if you wanted to continuously pitch up you had to keep moving your mouse down, so what you had to do was pick up the mouse and reposition it on your table, over and over and over. Luckily for me, I had a joystick, it was a much more common PC accessory to have back then than it is today. That's really how it was intended to be played, with a joystick, but I'd be willing to bet that 50 percent or more of the people who played didn't have one. So you would get into coral sea and just wreck people because you were the only guy who actually had a joystick.
I always was the guy killing all the AA dudes on the enemy carrier. When I couldn't win a battle or was found out I'd jump off into the water and swim close to the ship with my head down to go back up after they gave up looking for me.
Don't be sad because it was not properly remade be happy that it happened But seriously this map would be awesome in bf1 if planes spawned in plane carriers ( those existed in WW1) Becose guners had a lot more freedom in that game like fore example attack plane has a guner that can rotate 360 degrees and guners with explosive rounds could destroy infantry And zeppelin would be a interesting change
This map frustrated the f@ck outta me. Maybe when I get a joystick it might be better but the engine limitations squander this rather interesting concept. I can't find the bloody enemy carrier with the f@cking limited draw distance and the slow arse swimming if i fall into the sea make for some frustrating gameplay. I want to like this map. Maybe if there is modern remake with the current engine I might be interested.
I hope they make this map remastred in bf 2042 would be awesome. atleast they got El almein but we need some naval maps like coral sea, midway etc with driveable naval ships
Man i just Want a full 1942 remaster
This is exactly the type of content I was looking for, in-depth retrospectives on classic Battlefield maps

Coral Sea in the Official EA WW2 mod for 2004's Battlefield Vietnam was an excellent port.

I miss those days.
THIS IS MADNESS!
Will we get some videos on bc2? Would love to hear your opinions on what it got right and wrong compared to the later bf titles
