With carjacking skyrocket in the US, keep Auto Unlock by Shift to P off. Also, try not to sit inside the car idling for a long period of time. The most vulnerable for carjack are those who are filling gas and idling on the side of the road. By the way, for the Lock/unlock Feedback - tone, when you turn on the car at 3 am, i am sure the engine sound is way louder than the tone. XD

Is that automatic or is it programmable? Mine is 2017 Premium, maybe that feature is only found in newer models.
Bob - I have a newly acquired 2012 GX460 and the back hatch door is locked (closed) and no matter what I've tried, I can't open the door. The back window opens, but the door remains locked. HELP! Love your vids... Pete

Would you care to comments on whether or not you have or not have dealer work on simple regular maintenances on your vehicles and why?. Keep DYIs coming. Hey Pao, make sure u use the correct oil filter part number. I revised the part number in the body of the description. Pao, i chose to do most all my maintenance myself because i was trying to keep myself busy after work and on the weekends. A lot of it came from watching other tutorials and figuring out if i can add shortcuts or bypass redundant steps. I invested in a lot of tools over the year (most of them cheap harbor freight tools) and most of them i requested when people asked what i wanted for Xmas (i always request tools or a giftcard to buy tools). I never go to the Lexus dealer because everything you need to do to your car is on Google. You just need the patience and the time......and a second car just in case you need to work on your Lexus for more than a day. Good luck to you and i will always try to find time to answer your questions .
I have a 2022 and I want to be able to lock the car with the car still on and the fob in my pocket. I was able to do this with my Cadillac SRX, but when I do it on my GX it will not let the doors lock. Is this possible?
You may want to invest in a remote starter (They're roughly $100 on eBay). It allows you to start your car and have it running while the doors are locked and vice versa. I haven't found an option with OEM that allows that path.
when my GX is locked, and I go to my driver's side to touch the door, it unlocks. When I try this from the passenger front door, it does not respond. How do I fix this?

Bob - nice work for an engineer. Do you have any insight on how to change the setting for the door handle-electronic key feature to unlock all four doors when holding onto the drivers door? For my 2017, only the drivers door unlocks when at the drivers door while all doors unlock when at the passenger door. Thanks!
Turn off Auto Unlock shift to P. Makes it easy for car jackers to open your door once your in park. Wrote this before watching the whole video. Glad he brings up the concern.
Love your videos!!! My wife has a 2015 GX 460. The driver and passenger doors won’t lock, even with pressing the lock button on the key fob. I followed your instructions on changing the lock options but it still won’t lock. Even when the car is moving/taking it out park into drive. Still nothing. Do you have an idea on why this is happening?
Your settings do not affect individual doors except the drivers door. All your passenger doors share the same output from the body electronic computer unit at your fusebox. If you have some mechanical aptitude, i would go to each door motor and tap power to one of the wires (door motor requires power and ground to activate) to see if indeed its the motors that went out. A far fetched reason could also point to pinched or cut wire harnesses because your doors were replaced at one point due to an accident. If you don't want to go to each door to test the motors, you can go directly to the BECU to the right of the fusebox under your drivers dash and look for a white 30 pin connector that holds a thin gray(lock) and light green (unlock) wire to test if they actuate by tapping a negative pulse to them. I know its a lot but its better left to an alarm installer to test it out for you.
How are your side mirrors retracting when you lock the car? Another question I had was that I’m not able to unlock the car from the passenger door when I pick the door handle, thank you for all your help!
Go through your options and you should see one that says "select doors to unlock" . Switch it to All doors". My side mirrors are retracting due to a mod i purchased. If you go thru my library of videos, it should be under Auto folding mirrors. Thanks Ali for the comments.

Well...Salim, when i tested the auto lock, i had my keys in my pocket at the time. So the answer is yes it will still lock if you forgot your key in your car. But you will not lock yourself out because since the key is in the car, all you have to do is touch the door handle and it should open up the door.
Hey Bob, I recently started experiencing my driver’s side door lock failing to lock using the key fob and by touching the indentation on the outside door handle. I changed the key fob battery and was met with the same results. It works intermittently. Have you experienced this and might it be the door lock actuator? Trying to see if there is anything I can troubleshoot before I take it to the dealer. Thanks
The keyfob may have been knocked around and dropped one too many times. I would have a second brand new keyfob programmed to see if that will remedy your problem . I’m sure the dealer will most likely perform the same thing. If you want to rule out yes actuator all you have to do is lock and unlock a million times toggling your driver door switch and look for consistency. If the motor does down then there’s your culprit.

There’s your first problem, you bought 12voltsolutuon. A Viper system would have protected your truck and do the laundry for you at the same time and would have been cheaper. I’m trying to put a security system on my list of things to do but this list is getting longer by the day.
Thank you for all of the ideas you share with all of the GX 460 owners! I just tried to set my Auto Relock Timer to 30 seconds. It had been off before I set it to 30 seconds. I then Saved it. I shut the car off and exited. I waited up to 3 minutes waiting to determine it was not going to lock at 30 seconds. What am I doing wrong? Thank you.

I would like to know about locking the rear door....it worked well where I could open with a push of the lower button, as long as I had my key fob in my purse. Now it won't work.??????? Are there settings for this?
I would first try your second set of keys if you haven’t already done di to eliminate the need for battery replacement in your original keyfob. I do not recollect a separate setting to activate or deactivate the rear door. It’s usually synched with the rest of the vehicles doorlock system.

J S. Any problems on a 2022 is not your problem. Let the dealership handle it. I was going to go thru a list of things to check but i hardly believe a 2022 has batteries, soldering, rfid, or programming issues at so early in the game.
@@GXBOB hey Bob, so I dropped off the car in the dealership and they don’t know what’s wrong with it. They did asked me about my led light bulb on when I installed it inside the car. They said if that caused the issue they would charge me since it voids the warranty. Mind you I just picked it up last week Thursday and the next day the key fob won’t lock and unlock the car . I press the button and nothing works . I changed the batteries and made sure the settings was correct. I asked them why the led bulbs would mess with the signal and they had no real answer. They did try to reprogram the car fob back to the car and stilll nothing . Any advice you would give ? I don’t think it’s fair if u have to pay and I just got the car. I don’t think the bulbs would mess with the signal . The dealership will be calling Lexus tomorrow to figure whats wrong . Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Bruce, you're not the first one to request that. It just so happens that i took my car in for a brake issue since i didn't have the special tool. When i was there, my mechanic gave me an offer i couldn't refuse. Transmission drain and fill with Toyota WS for $80. I said what the heck, just do it. Hence, no transmission video.....
Windows are not supposed to roll down on the first unlock press. Unless you set your door locks to single press unlock. Factory setting has your unlocks set at double press meaning it takes 2 presses on your unlock button to unlock all your doors and a single press only unlocks your driver's door. If this is happening regardless of what your doorlock settings are, you might want to attempt trying with a different keyfob. Your current keyfob may have a stiff unlock spring causing the button to hold down longer than it should. If all fails, i would get an exchange. Don't give up Johnny because this little folding mirror is a pretty cool addition to your truck. I love how it lets me know that my doors are locked by just looking at the folded-in mirrors.

@@jvillasin So i just checked it out. If you noticed my dashcam is not under my rearview mirror as i feel it impedes my view. I've had dash cams in the center before and i didn't like it. I do like the idea though, very clean setup!
@@GXBOB thanks for checking, i'm buying the garmin mini dashcam and will mount behind the rear view for a seamless look and the dongar adaptor will sure make the setup clean, just need to make sure the GX has similar pin connectors, big thanks again
@@jvillasin I just purchased the 10 pin adapter from Dongar Technologies. It should arrive within the next couple of days. I already see an issue with this product. Your current layout behind the mirror has the oem wires within a nice plastic channel. In order for this install to take place, the caps that hide the oem wires need to remain off because it won't fit the "clump" of extra plugs . This will defeat the purpose of a clean install with hidden wires. The only purpose of this adapter is to skip a lot of the labor of routing the cables. We'll see once i get the product in the mail.

I tried setting my door lock settings to AUTO RELOCK TIME ADJUST TO 30 SECONDS, just ike you did in the video and I pressed the save option to save that setting [GX460 2011 model] and they didn't locked [waited over a minute and I did it like 3 times inside and outside the GX and nothinghappened]... could it be that it wont locked since I have the key fob insise the GX, because I know forr a fact that the doors wont locked if I leave the key fob inside the GX... its a smart key fob thing with the Toyota/Lexus that feature. The engine sound is certainly quite louder with a K&N filter. lol.
You can lock all doors from the outside by touching the front of the door handle. There’s a little notch to put your finger

Its a separate module you have to install into your OBDii port. Its like $50. I actually have a video on it if you go thru my video library.

So autorelock might lock you out if you forgot your keys inside too?..
it only autolocks if it senses your keys are not in distance of your vehicle.

My GX 460 doesn't auto lock after 60 seconds despite being set to do so via the Menu.

I would locate the exact location of that sound by removing trims and seeing if there is a failed module or loose connection.

It won’t lock while you’re in the vicinity of the vehicle as a safety precaution. Try walking away with all your key fobs away from your truck.
