I am thinking about upgrading from a 2021 DS to the 2023 DSR. The 2024 DSR are lower and 100lb heavier. Made more for the road than offroad
I have had a 2021 DSR for 3 years now and it has been great. Perfect bike for my wants and needs, with plenty of hp and motor cooling for my riding style. So far the only maintenance it has needed is air in the tires, but it will be needing new tires soon. To "winterize" it I just ride until battery SOC hits 50% and put a cover over it. In the spring I only need to plug it in for 24 hours to rebalance the battery and air up the tires.
I do wish Zero would update the DSR to add some range, add J1772 L2 to the built in charger, and keep the 120 V charge cord. I could get the charge tank, but I like the in-tank storage. The bike would offer more value for money if you didn't have to pay an extra $3000 for L2 charging. I would like all of that, and maybe an extra 10 hp, with no weight increase. A structural pack, like the Del Mar, an integrated motor and controller, and more energy dense cells could make that possible. Maybe also integrate the DC-DC into the battery pack, and integrate the 120/240 V, 32 A charger into the motor controller/inverter.
The DSR/X is too big and heavy for my taste, especially for off-road.
I greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences with your DSR. I have enjoyed getting the chance to experience all the zero bikes. I haven't been able to try any of the livewires yet sadly. I will buy an electric bike as soon as the overall charging infrastructure gets built up more. I live very rural and commute 80 miles per day minimum. While most will meet the commute side I like to extend my rides after work from time to time and worry about running out of juice. One day i need to get one to do a full test on it. Stay safe and hopefully Zero will continue to grow and make the changes you suggest.
Zero as a company is vile.
They put micro transactions on their bikes and shit on their customers..
avoid Zero motorcycles at all cost.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I enjoyed riding the bike and have been giving thoughts to buying one but a curious about your statement. What do they charge for past the msrp? I am buying a bike not a video game

Imagine buying a motorcycle with grip heaters.. but you have to have an app on your phone connected to the bike at all times to use it because it's an upcharge.
They will sell you a bike with a bunch of features on it, then disable those features through software and make you pay outrages prices to activate them and you have to stay connected to keep them 'activated'. A while back, people that paid for the 'whole package of features' found their features disabled with a 'buy now' prompt. Zero only fixed this issue after a very public outrage.
Look up the price of some of the simple 'upgrades' if you were to install them on a regular bike, then look at what zero wants for them to be 'activated' when they're already on the damn bike.. it's nuts..
I just can't support a company that does business like that. BMW recently did the same stuff by making you subscribe to your heated seats... it's insane what idiots with money will do.. and ruin it for the rest of us.
