    Speaking about miracles , my mother in law told me about an incident in Benares where a person whose son died went in grief to see Ma .
    Ma met with her & consoled her.
    Only later she came to know that Ma was actually traveling and wasn’t there in Benares.

    Underneath my skewed beliefs & opinions about myself and the world: the belief that objects - the world - exists independently of myself- my awareness-existence - I am pure and perfect. I am that basis of everything the one existent being. Vedanta is the perfect vehicle which attacks ignorance systematically from every single angle.

    I watched this video with great interest two times (because of the poor quality of the audio), and listened to Swami Vijayananda carefully. I used to think very highly of Swamini Anandamayi Ma after reading about her in Swami Paramahansa Yogananda's book, Autobiography of a Yogi, and also several articles written about her and available on the Internet. He said Anandamayi Ma used to eat fish and even meat (at 14.00 minutes in this video). This totally astonished and shocked me and, finally, saddened me. And I thought of what the great sage Patanjali said in his Yoga Sutras, in the section titled "Yamas", where he gave most prominence to Ahimsa, and placed it at the very top, before Satya (telling truth) and Brahmacharya, even. That made sense because Sanatana Dharma proclaims: Ahimsa Paramo Dharmaha. So, obviously, Anandamayi violated the foremost stricture of Hinduism : "Do no harm, do not cause himsa to god's creatures." I can not comprehend how did she have heart to even consume a morsel of meat procured by slaughtering animals? And do people who adore her know this? Did Yogananda know that Anandamayi Ma ate meat? And she is regarded as a holy woman? I find this quite shocking indeed.

      +Yesh Prabhu You cannot judge Ma`s activities by normal standards. You quote shastra, but shastra recognizes swadharma, that is, each person has his own dharma and obligations in life. See that in the Gita, Lord Krishna encourages Arjuna to fight, to commit "himsa". Why? Because that was his Dharma and duty as a kshatriya to fight for truth and righteousness. Shastric injuction change according to place, people and time. Kshatriyas can for exemple lie, if this helps them with their diplomatic duties, a thing that is totally forbbiden for brahamanas who must keep satyal above all else. Also, Srutis are silent about vegetarianism. Vaishnava smritis tend to forbid, while dharmashastras permit meat eating in case of yajnas, some tantras encourage the eating of meat. Animals that are killed in yajnas and tantric rites are liberated from lower rebirth and get a higher rebirth. Ma could very well benefit the animals whose flesh she ate in the same fashion. Swami Vivekananda ate meat, so Bamakhyema, Ramprasad sen and others. So be careful when judging a great mahatma`s actions such as the case of Anandamayi Ma. Also, Ma always encouraged people to follow vegetarianism, and was vegetarian mos of times, she would forget abou social conventions of behavior, of purity and impure when having a bhava. She is an Avdhuta. This is what Swamiji is refering here.

      +Thiago Albuquerque Hi Thiago, I read your reply. In a video titled "The unreal truth about Yogananda, Anandamayi Ma and Babaji" on RUclips, v=Odrxh3gwSok , a disciple of Anandamayi Ma, Yogiraj Gurunath Siddhanath, who claims that he was initiated by Ma herself, declares that Anandamayi Ma was an "Avatar", not an Avadhut. In fact he says that Anandamayi Ma was the only avatar of the century. He also explains the difference between an avatar and an avadhut. He travels around the world praising Anandamayi Ma. He has spent many years in her Ashram. You consider Anandamayi an Avadhut, and he, a direct disciple of her, considers her an Avatar, and I consider her a woman who shut her eyes and did not stop her devotees when they slaughtered animals. And, by the way, this Yogiraj Siddhanath advises (in another video) his followers to be a strict vegetarian and avoid meat; not that I give much importance to what he says; he just a fanatic.

      As a south india, you would then be appalled to see that most bengali brahmins eat fish, and call it a "fruit of water" (Ma herself was a bengali brahmin). Or would be shocked by visiting kamakhya or kalighat where sacrifices are offered daily to Devi. What then visiting balinese temples and see people entering the temple with "impure" shoes and making sacrifices in temples and eating beef. Kahsmiri pandits offer meat to bhairava in shivaratri. Why then south indian temples have a balipitham then? Sad to see so many hindus attached to outward behavior. This is the root of many of the untouchability rules that plague india for centuries on end. Vegetarianism is of course a better and more compassionate way of living. But this narrow thinking sounds too arrogant and judgmental to a system that values humility.

      +Thiago Albuquerque Hi Thiago. Yes, many Hindus slaughter animals, mostly goats, at the Kali temple in Calcutta, and take home the flesh for cooking. I am not condoning their brutal actions. I think, however, that there is a big difference between ordinary people, including Kashmiri Pandits, killing animals, and an "Avatar" of god condoning the slaughter of animals, and worse, eating the meat, and calling it Prasad. An Avatar must behave at a higher level than ordinary mortals, to set an example for others to follow, I think. Regarding the Bali peeth that one finds at almost all temples in South India, I spoke with priests at both Kaaraneeshwar Temple and Kapaleeshwar temple in Chennai (both Shiva temples considered as very holy), and they said that they only break a coconut at the Bali peeth as a symbolic sacrifice, and that there were no sacrifices of living animals even during their great-grand fathers' days. If there were sacrifices there, that must have been hundreds of years ago. Killing animals is forbidden there, and no meat can be brought inside the temples.
      Hinduism, called Sanaatana Dharma, is an evolving religion. Many rituals and practices that took place hundreds of years ago, no longer take place now: The practice of committing Sati, for example (which has been outlawed), and a class of people called "Untouchables" which has been abolished by laws and decrees. They can now enter any restaurant and eat with the others; that was not the case some 70 - 80 years ago, when I was growing up. So Hinduism as practiced now, is evolving. No religion on earth, including Hinduism, is perfect. They are all flawed, because religions are man made. "Sarve Janaha sukhino bhavantu" : let all people all around the world be happy - that is the motto of Hinduism. I hope people on earth will behave in such a way as to make it a reality. Thanks for your reply.

      I agree with you in many parts. And that is the beauty of Hindu Dharma. But again, taking your stance on avataras. We cannot judge their actions. If your opinion on Ma, is that she is ordinary, thats your sole right! But if one regard her as an avatara, we just cannot judge any action. Krishna, Rama, what to say then of Varaha and Narasimha, all practiced "himsa" in the many lilas. They killed demons, but by killing them not only they stopped their sinful deeds but also gave them liberation. That "himsa" in this context is liberation. When it comes to ordinary people. Some people Ma advised them to be vegetarions, others to practice vegetarianism only on certain occasions, for others she was silent. Maybe she was using Adhikari Bheda for judgement, taking in consideration the standing of each individual and his swadharma. If she permitted ritual slaughter, as you can also refer to the opinion of the Paramacharya of Kanchi and shastras, this is not himsa. The animals also get benefit from this.This discussion is useless and may go to lenghts, but my main point is, don't judge or lose your respect to Ma for the sake of a narrow view. Respect the many possibilities of worshipping god and lifestyles that Sanatana Dharma may offer.

    with all respect to your concerns I'd like to quote U.G.Krishnamurti on holy scriptures and beliefs: you can gobble up your next door neighbors new born baby and still become enlightened...(.it's freeing my veggie mind...)

    • @johnnygenlock
      @johnnygenlock 6 лет назад +1

      Ah, and this is precisely what Swamiji refers to: two very different cultures. But what was Jiddu Krishnamurti's pathless path, really? I will put it to you that it was his healthy rejection of the role Theosophical pedophile Charles W. Leadbeater wished to push him into. Read: Elder Brother. It further affirms the corruption of this Western "spiritual" leader and should give you the window you need to see this clearly. Then perhaps go study the Podesta emails and find out who actually is consuming new born babies. Perhaps that will cause your veggie mind to lose appetite? You brought it up, Georg.
