The problem was the pairing, not either of the singers individually. Kenny Lattimore is a singer and Kim is a storyteller. They have two totally different objectives. Kenny came to sing, which is okay because that his job and passion. But Kim came to paint a picture. So it just ended up sounding like two different performances of the same song by two different singers mashed up. lol If either of them sang this song alone, it would've sounded much better. They did come together at the end and finished beautifully. S/n: I can tell they didnt practice and maybe they should've to work out the kinks and figure out how to duet each other. But for the pros they are, they did well.
your ear is superb and your insight was spot on! I appreciate great comments like this, feel free to comment on other videos. You made some excellent points.
These are two vocal beast, but even this makes me appreciate how special Whitney was truly transcendent. Not taking away from their performance, but Whitney just had that IT to make you feel in simplicity
I enjoyed this somewhat i personally could have done without Kenny. He sounded off and stale to me, just dry. Kim however did phenomenal to me. People saying its too many runs are very irritating to me. You all KNOW she is KNOWN FOR RUNS she is NOT KNOW FOR STICKING TO THE MELODY AT ALL. She sang this the way she does everything: full of agile, well placed, brilliantly executed runs displaying her unparalled melisma and ear for music. Stop holding her to a standard she refuses to be limited by. Thats like asking patti labelle to sing a song without high notes. 🤷🏾♂️ Every time i click on a video with Kim Burrell i put my seatbelt on because i KNOW she is going to run me dizzy and i LOVE her for it because no one does it better.
You just spoke a great truth. Melismas are Kim's style. And not only are they random melismas, but she knows how to use them when necessary. Because there are thousands of artists who also make melismas but do not know how to use them at the right time and in the necessary time or quantity. That's why I think that of many singers, Kim Burrell stands out as the best.
I love both of these 2 singers in both of their respective places and spaces. I think the main thing here is,they didn’t KNOW the song. They are leaning on the Lyrics from the prompter, singing, while still hearing and thinking of WHITNEY. Trying to remain in the proper form of the song then adding their riffs and runs,to try and make it their own, while covering what they DIDNT KNOW, doing all that, all at once,it turned into a organized train wreck. They re to well versed singers to have done this song like this. I’m a fan of them both but this wasn’t in good taste! Saaaa ijs!!
I like Kenny and kim but on 1st listen it's a little to many runs for me. When Whitney sings it,it sounds like a Christian lullaby. It's hard to hear it any other way for me plus the sheer beauty of Whitney's voice.
It's always a huge, difficult challenge to do a song after Whitney has done it. Kenny was to high in note Kim is a vocal master I'm wondering why Kim didn't do this alone but overall it sounds good
Its ironic that everyone associates the song with Whitney Houston. This is a traditional Christmas song - not a product of her cover of it on the 'Preacher's Wife Soundtrack'. This song was sung by Whitney under an arrangement for her, but, its not her song. Many different folks perform the song, and, its a CHRISTMAS song - for the season. The various singers who do perform this song, as professionals or semi professionals, sing it under an 'arrangement' that is produced for them individually; their voice Kenny and Kim SHOULD have had an 'arrangement' produced for them, or, done it themselves. The amateur singers just sing the song as is; which is most people who sing Christmas songs at Christmas as part of their enjoyment of the season. This rendition was not the best, but, even so, it was sung as a Christmas song related to the season, not as a cover for Whitney Houston's version (arrangement) from the 'Preacher's Wife Soundtrack/Movie'. It does matter making the distinction, because it should change how we all evaluate the performance. They are both very capable of covering Whitney Houston - RUclips search can validate that. It should be clear that neither of them were trying to do a rendention like hers. Kim and Kenny should only be judged on their individual delivery.
I get what you’re saying. However, “Who Would Imagine a King” was written and composed by Mervyn Warren and Hallerin Hilton Hill, and originally recorded by Whitney Houston for the soundtrack to the 1996 film, The Preacher's Wife. It is a Christmas song that she was the first to do. So it’s obvious that her version is the standard. Yet, as vocalists it is great to have a befitting adaptation that suits one’s own sound.
That's where you got it wrong this song was meant and was intended for Whitney this was the original song for the preacher Wife and she co produced it and she was hoarse singing this song so this is and Whitney original just for her and it's one of her best songs and hardest songs because Whitney is singing so beautifully and angelic so this is a hard song to sing for many but they did pretty good.

Two of my favorite singers. What a treat!
seriously they are
Kim Burrell is 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

exactly, she was truly a gift with an incredible gift. Sadly life got the best of her.
Excellent Kenny!!!
I think Kim throw him off a little 🤣🤣🤣
did! He wasn't ready for what she delivered.

Awesome, thanks for sharing, you always upload great video
thanks so much for saying that, though I'm tempted to change this channel to traveling and more personal things.
love them both ..but I Did NOT love this!!!
ditto…. Could’ve done without it.
All of unnecessary runs and riffs. It's giving Ceefus and Reesey "In Living Color" sketch
It seemed like they both were singing out of range, anybody felt that way?
It was just a mess
Your need to stop
Beautiful
right

they requested a duet between the two. I like Kenny but he was out of his class to sing with the likes of Kim.
Lol
Do you have more performances from Kim for this night?
I just uploaded it.
@@Wilbgr8thanks do you have the rest of her set?
@@VocalViralMedia rest meaning who?
Love them! Hated the arrangement
It was an effort but not in excellence.
@@Wilbgr8 🤣🤣🤣👏🏼
No one can do Whitney but Whitney sorry !
Fyp
They saved it at the end 😅
I don't know what y'all talking about. I liked them together.
Where was this streamed?
In houston at fountain of praise
Kim can be funny at times 🙂
Tempo was super rushed but they made it through lol as only they could

Just sing the song!!!! It's a no for ME!!!!
Uh oh what didn’t you like
@@Wilbgr8 just too many riffs and runs ... this song doesn't call for that.... She's a great singer however this song wasn't it!!!!
Kenny sounds a MESS
And Kim was just okay lol. This is the duet we didn’t need.
@@json4061 tell your truth then
Kin wants to be Whitney
I think she knows she could NEVER be, no one could
Whitney said Kim was one of her favorite singers. She loved Kim. But I think Kim embraces her own unique style.
This was an epic fail to me. They murdered this. Not in a good way
This song did not need all of that🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ horrible arrangement‼️
Nope.
🤣
They didnt sound good at all kim with all the runs that wasnt necessary and kenny just was all over the place. This was a disaster
