ABOUT ME
- I'm Cambodian and Chinese.
- I was born in November of 1983 and raised in Houston, although my heart lays in between Houston and Hawaii.
- "OG KPOP STAN": I've always used the term "OG" (supposedly "original gangster") to define being old-school, and I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Kpop was my coping mechanism from the bullying I experienced in my younger years and it's just stuck by me ever since. Also! Just to be clear: me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" doesn't mean that anyone who's listened to kpop later than me is inferior. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time.😄
- I was a hiphop dancer for about 7 years. I did the whole crew thing, auditioning thing, competition thing, choreography thing, dance instructor thing, so I have some experience in that field and I hope to be able to share some perspective from my experiences for y'all to see the extra things that I appreciate about a video when I point them out.
- My videos can have quite a lot of cuts in editing and/or my eyes will unnaturally blink rapidly sometimes. This is because of my neurological disease that came with my lupus nephritis (posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome). My thinking abilities and speaking abilities struggle to align at times.
- Yes, that's Jack Sparrow's ring that I always wear in my videos. I've been a Pirates of the Caribbean fan ever since I rode the ride for the first time ever in Disneyland when I was a kid.🤓

Kind of interesting you pointed out Momo because she has been voted (multiple times) by her peers as the best female dancer in the industry as well as praised by some of the best choreographers in the industry (like Lia Kim). Being a dancer yourself, its interesting that she is the one that stuck out to you.

imo Fancy was a turning point in Twice's career as it mixes both their now newer/mature sound with their original bubblegum sound. as you go further back into Twice's catalogue you'll see more of their bubblegum tracks and also notice a lot of the same themes you mentioned here (ie. lyrics about falling in love, a key addictive point in their choreo, the way they say "TWICE!" in their song.) If anything I think the contrast between their old sound and now is a testament to both their growth and versatility as artists. Looking forward to more of your Twice reactions!

Fancy was iconic because it symbolised TWICE's transition from "cute" to their newer, mature concept.

FANCY is the SOTY (Song of the Year) at MAMA2019 we never had :(
So, my experience with Twice was complicated. My Korean friends didn’t like the girly aspect of them and my dumb self started to dislike them for that. But one day O was driving to school in the morning and stuck in traffic (i had depression issues at the time) and they’re come back Feel Special poop out on my playlist... I could not stop crying... because it felt like they knew what I was going through. So ever since I feel like they actually get me. From their cute concept to their more mature aspect. I’m in the medical field and just barely find out about your condition. I’m just so encouraged by how Twice is helping others and not only myself.
The same song turned me onto Twice. Their earlier concept wasn't my cup of tea, either.

Kiel tutin is their main choreographer (he worked on fancy, feel special, more and more, I cant stop me, and cry for me). Fun fact, he's also one of blackpink's main choreographers!

Thina, I'm about the same age as you. I discovered K-pop through Twice in early-2017. I used to be really big into western music, but it got old and less exciting over the years. K-pop is doing so many new, innovative, and different things, and I'm sure it's been that way since the beginning. I've been missing out as a previous non K-pop listener.
Don't be apologetic because of your age. There are probably a lot more people out there like you than you may think!

2019 was a big year to twice with the mini albums FANCY YOU and Feel Special
Agreed, what is an adult thing? Twice is a great example of showing all facets of kpop- cute, bops, sensual, many more! Plus we are gifted with content on RUclips over the years to see them grow from trainees to strong women they are now. I think a lot of people can appreciate this reaction as a whole and what was said at the very end. It touched my heart. I used to hide the fact that I loved anime and games because I was embarassed of what everyone would say about me being a nerd or a geek or weird. Ive been into rock, metal, and hiphop/rap for many years and slowly took on other genres to listen to. At some point I wanted to listen to only heavy bands or progressive metal if any of yall know what that is lol. The point to my story is that I stumbled into kpop via blackpink and twice and I haven't been able to stop. I listen to all sorts of music but kpop just has so many elements to it that honestly make it more in depth/artistic and I appreciate that. I was emarassed to admit to my friends that I rly do love kpop but now I dont care what anyone thinks because good music is good music at the end of the day so now I blast kpop in my car 😆 I'm 30 and have pictures of my favorite groups and my albums are on display on a shelf here in my room. You are right when you say what does it even mean to be an adult. Being who you are without boundaries will make you happier :)
side note: my favorite kpop group so far is Dreamcatcher ❤
To be honest, I wasn't really into Twice back in the days as I didn't enjoy their first songs (except "Like Ooh Ahh") as I found their songs a bit too bubbly for my tastes (like "TT", "Cheer up" or "Signal"). I was still impressed by their MV and dance choreos so I was still checking them. But then "Yes or Yes" made me change my mind, and they released bop after bop (again for my tastes) and "Fancy" is not an exception. Really nice songs and mesmerizing choreos which gives joy to people watching as you correctly pointed out as usual.

Well Twice did start out with very cutesy concept because they were young when they debuted but now they are grown and doing more mature concepts

This is why they're so different from other girl group, even though they started being so bubbly their choreography is really insane.the synchronization is like there is only two person dancing but being 9 in the group is really insane.

People are caught up on how kpop choreography should 'hard' or have certain difficulty level...when in fact it's also suppose to be fun. Before Kpop went international, groups would introduce their songs by demonstrating the key points of their choreography. It's suppose to be easy to learn and catchy. Most groups still do it...like Twice.
Twice is called twice coz they will catch you once through the eyes because of their cute and once through the ears because of their catchy song. they are cute before, but now they became more mature concept like cry for me. Yes, their song is so addictive that's why I became Once.

I love it when reactors feeling happy and giddy when looking at Twice, that’s their power. Twice brings us happiness.
TWICE former choreographer since debut till YesOrYes was Lia Kim. You might know her, she's a famous choreographer rn and she has the dance company called 1M dance studio. But their current group choreographer rn consists of 3 people (Kiel Tutin, Lee Jung Lee and sorr yi forgot 1 but she's a jype inhouse choreographer). ICSM was choreographed however by Beyoncè's choreographer of "Single Ladies" Jontè Joaning (not sure of his correct name spelling). Kiels group choreographed Fancy, Feel Special, More&More and Cry For Me.
Been waiting for this! To be fair though, all the songs that came before Fancy are the ones who could be categorized as "bubblegum". Which isn't saying they're bad (because they are gooood), but just noticeably different from the tracks you've listened so far.
Would’ve been an interesting journey if she went in chronological order. But then again maybe the earlier stuff wouldn’t have got the interest.

As a 24 y/o who started being a k-pop fan a year ago, I have struggled feeling like this "obsession" is meant to be for teens but screw that. I'm so happy since I started this journey and I honestly don't care anymore what other people could think
YES!!!👏🏼 Back when I tried to “move on” and got into things that others my age were doing, I was subconsciously drifting further and further away from who I am and what truly makes me happy. It took several breakdowns and more than several therapy sessions for me to realize it. Totally nothing wrong with what everyone else does and what makes them happy at all, I just knew that kpop was one of the elements of my own blueprint. I’m so glad you realized yours too! I super agree! Twice has that effect on me too. I'm not a dancer. My feet is all left when dancing😂. But hearing and seeing their songs urges me to learn the choreography, so that I can dance while listening to their music😁❤. I improved thanks to them, haha.
