    I think they should just design it for 2 people, get rid of the bench seat, make the two front seats spin round for that chillout camper experience. Otherwise you don't get that disconnect from driving and relaxing

    I built a mk4 Caddy camper last year. Absolutely love it. We've all got a budget, there's no way I could afford a Transporter that hadn't been to the moon and back.
    And why anyone would want to cook in a van is beyond me... buy a decent awning and you're sorted

    For one person it’s ok at a push. I built a micro camper from a Berlingo and it was ok with a big drive away awning but the T5 I have now is so much better even without a pop top. Nice to see something different though.

    in the 90 / 00 when I was surfing on the east coast this would have been the perfect van, great review. obvious benefit is that it drives like a car and will go anywhere. very interested.

    I like the concept of the Caddy camper but if the front seats could have designed to swivel the daytime seating would be transformed.

  • @VantasticAdventures

    Great review thank you, we have been interested in seeing this since we read about the concept 👍 The optional rear tent is a good idea for extra space / 4 beds, similar idea to the swift Basecamp caravan set up, more aimed at the adventure travel market - roof rack with kayaks or bikes etc. so would be interesting to see how much that tent costs at launch. As usual looks great VW build quality too, nice 😁
    Bit small for us but can definitely see the appeal and no doubt it will sell well with that badge 🙂

    From the offset the camper looks like a DIY job, I was hoping to be impressed but it did nothing for me. Its totally impractical for the British weather, just imagine a family of four sat in this on a campsite of an evening, Id rather buy a tent and save a small fortune. Great Video and it gave us a full insight into this new van but i wont be rushing out to get one.

    It’s more of a van to live out of, rather than live in; a bit like a mobile ridge tent with added mobility and security. As a daily driver, especially if you have parking issues or limited drive space, it is an interesting option - and whilst it’s not “cheap” it is far cheaper than the full size or Grand versions. 👍

    Build quality will be as good as usual, I think this would suit active couples spending the odd few nights way, but the appeal is the compact size with ease of parking/driving ...think they've done well with the available space, could it have had a pop up roof ? Thanks for the soggy review 😃

    Love the vw caddys always have done and the review was great but the layout is awful as you could see he was getting wet through just making the bed up. I make micro campers and everything can be done inside the vehicle. Not sure they have thought about this one properly for the British Market.

    Wonder why they didn’t put on a pop top? Just spent a few days on a campsite where the couple had self built a Caddy camper with a pop top and awning and it looked like a fantastic set-up for a couple. I won’t be ordering one as I have an Ocean but feel VW have missed a trick once again with the fixed roof.

    VW do great camper vans and now they have all the sizes for all your needs, but you will pay a premium and they will hold their value. Can anyone tell me if the list price has ever gone down on a new VW Camper? This one looks like it might be a good step into the VW California brand.

  • @watcher24601
    @watcher24601 3 года назад +1

    I have looked at these before, putting a full bed and everything else outside is too much of a compromise. Reimo do a much better option with a single bed and interior kitchen below and pop top bed above. As it is a new variant, shame they didn't use their new MEB platform.
    Looks like they tried to get away with doing the least converting possible

  • @andrewbeale2585
    @andrewbeale2585 3 года назад +1

    Echoing other comments, this vehicle is poorly set up for UK weather conditions,
    I think you should always be reviewing vehicles in future in the pouring rain, it keeps it real !!!!
    Have always loved the look of the Caddy, but I won't be selling my Cali Coast any time soon - why VW haven't included a pop top, roll out awning, integral blinds, a bit of storage, and swivel seats in the LWB version is beyond me.
    A one person version of this with single bed would be much more practical.
    Thank you for the review, but the look on Shaun's face throughout said it all !!!!

    Good video. Not my cup of tea though. Too small and too much compromise with having to be outside the van for making beds and cooking. Plus for that kind of money you can (and I have) bought a really good used 4berth LWB T6 with full professional conversion. I’m sure there will be some who love this though. Nice to have more options. When are you guys announcing your new van???

    I can see why someone would want something like this, but your paying for the california badge. You could buy the caddy (car version) and fit a simply bed/kitchen system yourself. I'm sure there are company's that sell these off the shelf. I can see the point/value of a normal california or Grand, but not the baby. Take it that you didn't get to drive it? Great video considering the rain 🌧👌

  • @katykircher7413

    I was very impressed when VW came out with the Caddy Beach, but I wondered why they hadn't made it a proper camper with stove etc. Now I am delighted to see more of a camper in this Caddy. The Caddy Beach came with a tailgate tent as standard. I find myself wondering why it's not standard on this model. How about also offering annexe tent so people don't have to get wet going from the vehicle to the kitchen? Since this is a small vehicle, people might need the extra space (or I need to pack lighter).
    Many years ago my family got around in a Microbus and my Dad built some folding furniture that could either be in the vehicle or in our tent. I also had a T2 camper van, but sadly sold it when my children left home.

    well don't know why vw are calling it a baby california..

    Where is the innovation? It looks as if it was thrown together in an afternoon. You could probably buy the bed the table and chairs the ONE BURNER ring stove down at Decathlon for a few hundred quid at the very most. No fridge either, just buy the standard Caddy probably would be a better and cheaper alternative.

    For the sheer amount of money they ask for this vehicle, the quality is shockingly low.
    I build campers (not as a full time job) and they look much better than this. Why are they going with magnetic blinds when they absolutely could do built in blinds, or, you know, curtains?
    I really feel this shows VW's true direction, going back to being the peoples car, but doing it in such a way that quality is out the window in favour of cheapness.
