Ahh you’re making me miss Oban and the isles! But you know you’re doing plenty trips like this when you start to recognise the crew :) thanks for the CalMac fix Scott! Aw the best
Hi Steve. I was also suffering from Calmac withdrawal symptoms, so had to find a cheap fix. It's a shame you can't book the weather in advance as well. As one American tourist once said to me, if we had constant sunshine, it wouldn't be Scotland.
Great video! I love Mull but I've only been there a few times. On my first trip there I got the bus to Tobermory and walked around the headland, and for the first time in mt life I heard silence. There was not a single sound - no wind, no traffic, nothing. It doesnt sound like much but it was a really special moment. I did a great trip from Oban one summer with West Coast Tours where we visited Mull, Iona and Staffa all on the same day. I got to get up close with the puffins, go inside Fingal's Cave and visit Iona Abbey.
Thanks for your comment Sue. I had only been to Mull once before, and it must have been the same type of coach tour, as we drove across Mull to Iona, sailed to Fingal's Cave on Staffa. I think I need to do that again one day!
I visited Mull in 1981 when I was in the Navy. When I got back on board ship after 24 hours I was still suffering from the worst hangover in recorded history. I think I had a great time.
Taking ferry trips is one of the great pleasures of life. The second is excursions on the ocean. Alas the closest ferry to me right now is 4 hours away and lasts 20 minutes in crossing a river. AND the ocean is over 1500 miles. So much appreciate the 'ferry fix' today. 🙂
Another great video for which many thanks. Mull is a truly magic island and as a wildlife photographer it's a mecca for me, usually at least twice a year. P.S. If anyone is wondering, with the relaxing of covid restrictions CalMac have now reopened the restaurants and bars on their ships.
My god, 1987 was the last time i took the train straight to Oban from Glasgow central with my free railway pass, while it was still called Britsh rail up here in Scotland........a old diesel engine and your own single door carriges as well, great little trip with some great views.
This is very convenient if your staying in oban, excellent way to get to the isle of mull, stunning views and very cheap. I must do this while im in oban! 🙂
hey Scott, I came across your trips in your Ankara video. I think what you do is exciting! May I kindly suggest you put some basic maps on screen which shows your departure and destination, so we foreigners can get an idea of locations and distances. thanks.
I did the Weymms Bay to Rothesay ferry. Absolutely loved it and I agree its an absolute bargain for about £7, the best value for money travel experience I've had for a while. I was in glee, stood on the outside deck lapping it all up. Plus the warm Scotch Pies from the bakery in Rothesay were absolutely delicious!!! A bit warner than the frosty reception I got from the staff when they heard my English accent... 🤪
If you've not already done it, please do a video of the much smaller ferry from Kilchoan to Tobermory, which looks and feels suspiciously like a WWII landing craft. A few years ago I cycled from Lochailort to Kilchoan, caught the ferry to Tobermory, cycled down the length of Mull then caught the ferry to Oban. Great memories of wonderful scenery.
Another great video. Went to Mull 15 years ago when our son was 6 and was into the children's programme Ballamorie, based at the Town of Tobermory. There is a lot of nice scenery, especially on the Kininian and Ballygiwn Road. However this may not be accessible on foot. The only thing I was going to mention would br to flag up any catering facilities on the boat, however I appreciate this may not be easy as people, Inc staff and other passengers, do norm like been filmed. Keep up the good work.
Every year I go to the Isle of Arran but Mull looks beautiful as well. Would really like to go and climb the island's munro Ben More maybe next year at some point
Nice video. I did Oban Craignure back in November 21 but on 3 different ships in a day. Been meaning to make a video on it but not gotten round to it. It’s a nice short crossing.
Yes thank you for trip down memory lane I was fortunate too work craignure hotel on mull in 80s and was very suporised how much value for money a day return was on the isle of mull anybody arrives Oban ? Do a day trip too null which was is described as Scotland in miniature
Sowent on ferry to Rothesay, puntual comfortable. But it took 49 mins to chque in to hotl. Restorants scant and most closed. Panuniversal drink was nescaffy, plate o porridge for breakfast, Tour by municipal coach pleasant. Never to return, my wife couldnt believe that this once had been thriving hooiday resort. My sister lives in Skelmorlie next to Wemyss Bay, never gos to Rothesay. Millport was frequent venue, transporting flocks o sheep. Otherwise into Glasgo to refuel. I lived at Jas. Watt dock, thought lined factoies were all ship supples, now proposed as slave museum
Did you know it costs £13 to take a car (driver not included) on the Calmac ferry between Largs and Gt Cumbrae, a 10 minute journey! Total extortion. There needs to be more competition for Scotland's ferry services. Calmac have a monopoly.
Thanks for another great vid! Infuriating that onboard facilities are closed "due to Covid" - utter BS, but a reminder that governments have no business owning public transport operators. Well run bars are dependably profitable; any management that approves their ongoing closure should be replaced as a matter of urgency. But that won't happen, for as long as doing the bare minimum is acceptable across the public sector.
Perhaps things are different in the middle of summer, but I wondered how many passengers fall into that age range where the sailing is spent playing video games. It does seem like a waste of space.
It’s an excellent trip, Duart Castle is fabulous and Tobermory is a real treasure……..unfortunately there is very little I can say about Calmac Ferries that is positive, quality customer service is non existent, the staff work in a wonderfully scenic part of the world yet are as miserable as sin, if they enjoy their work they should try telling their faces, and that includes ticket staff to people who actually work on the boats. It’s as if they hate tourists!!
Good video Scot,😊

This part of the world is just simply beautiful. Oh how much I want to go to the upper isles one day. Fantastic video 👌

made that trip last October and everything was open on the ship, took the bus up to Tobermory. What a great day that was, and spent the night in Oban.
This brings back so many memories!!! Thanks so much for "taking us along"

Oban to Colonsay is £16 return for a 5 hour sail past Mull and Jura.. Calmac fares so cheap but we pay that through our taxes!
This is very convenient if your staying in oban, excellent way to get to the isle of mull, stunning views and very cheap. I must do this while im in oban! 🙂
Most definitely. Oban makes an idea base for day trips.

Great job, hope to see more of the islands.
Thanks Ronald. I'm hoping to do more island hopping this summer, so watch this space.
Another awesome adventure get to see places l would probably never get to go to thank you for taking us along always 💟💟💟💟💟
Thanks Mary. Glad you enjoyed the adventure.
💟💟💟💟💟💟💟
Good video enjoyed traveling Isle of mull 🏴
Ah Mull.....the very jewel of the Inner Isles Regards to Donnie and family and all at Castle Duart.
Nice video again, thank you 😍 I badly miss Oban, Hebrides etc. Was my favourite destination always
It's a beautiful part of Scotland... even more beautiful when the sun shines!
Just found your channel and enjoy your videos - thanks very much and bon voyage for your future journeys
I'm hoping to be doing this ferry trip soon.
Must be great living in Scotland & being able to hop islands when ever you want

Tell em your Canadian no one ever questions it 😂😂
is it so cheap as heavily subsided by the SNP? If so it is not really as cheap as you think is it

try going on DFDS from newcastle to amsterdam in january that gets very rough and your on it for 24hrs

The ferry is cheaper than the bus to Tobermory £11 I think 😵 Done it many times though . Love Mull and Oban 🏴
I really want to visit one day
Have you ever done the Oban to Castlebay crossing?
been to invereray and oban with national express yonks ago but not mull 👍
I’m surprised that CalMac have put on tiny ferries to Craignure. (Compared to M.V. Isle of Mull)
Based on the very few foot passengers, I think Calmac's revenue on this route is from cars and vans.
Given the cost of the new ferry which will replace this one, it will take 450,000,000 journeys at £7.60 a pop, for it to break even on costings.
An indication of sailing time would be welcomed.

Much enjoyed, how long was the trip over? Cheers from Australia.
If you want a longer day out in summer the Oban-Coll return trip is well worth it and also another bargain at about £15.
Did you know it costs £13 to take a car (driver not included) on the Calmac ferry between Largs and Gt Cumbrae, a 10 minute journey! Total extortion. There needs to be more competition for Scotland's ferry services. Calmac have a monopoly.
It look's so wet and dreary lol
Certainly not a ferry with mulling over too much! 😂
Thanks for another great vid!

I really wish CalMac would get rid of those game rooms and repurpose them for something a bit more wholesome

7.60 because half of it was closed
