That’s great that you are enjoying it! These tiny electric trucks are actually pretty popular among Chinese villagers in more rural areas, using it for similar purposes that you are.
I haven't seen a truck like this. Where my father was born, villagers either have cars and minibuses for driving on road. cheaper electric tricycles are used to carry stuff around their village. Even cheaper electric "wheelchairs" are used in town, but I think it's banned in cities because it's crappy, needs no license and goes really fast. But for around 5000$, there is a small electric car that you can legally drive around in. I am actually thinking of getting one to drive around campus.

This is an example of why the US auto market is in trouble. They are releasing vehicles at price points we can't compete with, at every level. Thank you for your sharing. As a Chinese, this is the first time I noticed such a cheap small electric vehicle. For that rust, try detailing clay bar. Use it as a scrubber with water and see if it comes off. The clay will not dilute as it is designed to wash vehicles. It generally will take out stained rusts or early rust stage. Give it some elbow grease if required without denting your vehicle.
@@rallywagon261 the reason why oxidation and rusting is differentiated is because in rusting the oxide forms a porous material that allows oxygen to reach new pure material below it (that's why heavy rusting peels off in layers) Aluminum however, does not rust, because the oxide layer is nonporous, effectively stopping oxygen from reaching any aluminum below it; it's also the reason why you need a high frequency current when welding aluminum, in order to break down the oxide layer
My wife and I just watched your video on the cheap electric truck. This has inspired us to look into getting a low-cost road worthy short range electric vehicle . Thanks for your video and we look forward to your future videos and DIY projects. Gary
My grandparents recently bought a refurbished electric golf cart. That thing only travels at the speed of a bicycle (I think 30km/h), but is more than enough to visit friends in the neighbouring towns, drive to the discounter for the weekly groceries, inspect the fields and hunting cabins etc. They are also road legal (atleast here in Germany and our laws tend to be among the strictest, when it comes to vehicles) and the required driving license is also the lowest (either a normal car license or one for small mopeds). Disadvantage: Golf carts do not have a pickup bed.
Adding larger tires drastically changes the torque ratios of the drivetrain and could significantly stress the motor and transmission. Be cautious in that regard and check with the company or a mechanical engineer before implementing that change.
People don't understand that these trucks were made to run around Asia in some of the worst conditions, are they top quality no. But i would rather have a small truck over a 7k qaud any day.
It is called the old man's car in China. It is specially used by the elderly for activities in the fields and near their homes. The old man bought vegetables to pick up the children from school and pulled fertilizer. However, they cannot go on the road. It is very convenient for home use. No refueling
How do you get to school without using the roads? Or are they just quickly looking left and right, whether the police is near and just do it anyways? Among the elderly in Germany it became popular to drive refurbished golfcarts, that are streetlegal (as far as I am aware EU wide, but you won't cross many borders with such vehicles anyways)

I'm not surprised it's held up this well. It's clearly had some thought and real engineering put into the design and the material quality is about as good as I'd expect for the price point. It's a nice little work truck and probably much easier to maintain than an old pickup.
They're a breeze to maintain or even modify, I have a 90v 12kw drivetrain and it'll do about 60 but I rarely take it over 40 and it does great hauling my pool chemicals and equipment. I paid $19k for mine after buying shipping and modified drivetrain and it's better than any small truck for light commercial work imo. I also have close to 200mi of range with my normal driving and it's always enough to get through my route and day
@@JUNEBUGLLC in your opinion it's a clown car, but it's helped keep maintenance costs down for my business significantly as the electric drivetrain handles the abuse of day to day work much better than any gas truck I've had. Thanks for the truck update. This truck definitely has a purpose and there is a lack of manufacturing for products like this in North America. Glad it is working out for you.
We use suction-cup mounts for a number of temporary situations where drilling holes is not in the cards or when we want to preview where to permanently mount hooks, etc., just a dab of silicone on the middle will keep it from falling off. It you need to remove the suction cup later, just slide a putty knife under the cup. We will be following your progress for the next few months or more. Stay well, friends.
As for the rear view mirror falling off because of the factory "suction cup" mount, you can buy an aftermarket glue-on metal mirror support at most any auto parts store, and then just mount an inexpensive mirror on it.
How and why should a rear view mirror just fall off? That never happens anymore. Maybe older cars. It's not supposed to happen. You sound so casual talking about this like the Chinese aren't known for making cheap garbage. If you buy a car and something like that happens when it's still new, then that's a huge indicator. The fact that there isn't glue on it and it's held by a suction cup should be another hint that Chinese make cheap crap. They just do.
Even at the 7 or 8 grand you've got in it, it's not bad considering what most side by sides cost. Its no comparison to a Rozor but for someone not looking for speed or big power then it's not bad. Some real tires would be nice.
very thorough testing and non partial comments. enjoy hearing all about this. would definitely make a great personnel transport for a farmor non road useage. great portable tool box !
Love the update. Just want to say, if larger diameter wheels/tires were installed, the hauling abilities and power of the truck will be reduced. It would be like changing the gear ratio in the drive train to taller gears. And to those who say don't buy Chinese goods, I guess don't use a cell phone or computer or watch TV or use electric appliances or .....
If you could get a smaller rim and bigger tires, it might help the suspension without changing the ratio. Still probably increase rotational mass, and you'd have to make sure it would clear the brakes, but it might be an option.
@@Phate8263 That's very true. I wonder what bolt pattern this truck uses? Might be a little difficult to find other wheels if it's some weird pattern. Of course, a custom adapter could be made.
As for licensing, In Michigan, you can get an ORV permit for 15 bucks a year. This allows you on secondary roads(No highways or interstates) as well as the well developed snowmobile\Bike\ATV trail network that will take you to anywhere one needs to go. RE: suction cup mirror: The secret to getting it to stay on is to wait until the windshield is as hot as you expect it to be. If you put it on while cold, the microscopic amount of air between the suction cup and the windshield will expand when heating up, and it will fall. Consult any person driving with a dashcam for uber or lyft.
Considering the amount you paid for it and how well it's held up you've got a bargain. Side-by-sides cost as much a regular car and even 4 wheelers are like what 10k? This isn't as fast, but it's got a lot of cool features. Interior heating and cooling, that dump bed, even an infotainment system.
It's a perfect little yard truck. Stays on the property. Perfect landscaping companion if you ask me. Even has AC? Don't need to drive far in the yard. Use that battery to create a little AC compartment to follow you around the garden. Amazing.
My Honda mini truck would be next best thing. Now they are about $10k but I got a very nice example for $6k with ac and gets about 50mpg and ford 75mph.
Even after the upgrades, dutys, fees, etc. it's still cheaper than a quad. Maybe not as rugged, but for someone with a couple acres looking to do yard work, it's not a bad consideration.
I've had ATV's and UTV's, and honestly rarely needed the 4WD in either, so this little mini truck would be great around my property, hell I use my 87 2WD Ford Ranger around my property all the time and the smaller size of this Chinese truck with the dump bed would be perfect.
You may have already thought of this, but a quick upgrade for the wiper issue is to just buy a longer wiper blade. It won't change the total angle of the sweep of the wiper, but it will wipe more of the windshield. Just run the wiper to the top, measure how much room you have, then buy one that covers that area. If you could use more clearing at the top of the sweep, just lift the wiper from the shaft and rotate it a few degrees. It will not clear all the way to the bottom, but a clear windshields at the top may be more useful than at the bottom.
For the rearview mirror, make sure that the glass and suction cup is completely clean. If there's any dust or dirt it prevents suction from staying. Or epoxy it on.
Since I was young, the solution is always to put a drop of water to the suction cup and spread it around. Wet the glass/ceramic too if you feel like it. The water will get rid of all the air and it's gonna stay sticky for good.
I would just get a regular rear view mirror and mount (the metal piece) and use the rear view mirror adhesive they sell in the auto parts store. Should hold for at least a decade or more, even in the sun.

At the cost of gear ratio. If you have any to fix the suspension, do that. But the tires and wheels do play an important part in towing/hauling capacity.

Not wasting time and materials on something if it won't be needed in the long term is always more efficient than wasting time and materials on something, and dealing with the rust on the roof rack will not in any way make the solar panels better.
Clean with scuff pad or steel wool and alcohol, 2 spritz's of rustoleum primer and a dab of white paint, it's fixed... I think the paint cracked and chipped off right there is all, when the roof was crushed in shipping, ocean water surface rusted it quick.
Enjoyed the video. Before installing a ham radio in the truck you may want to see how much radio noise the truck's engine control system generates. A portable transistor radio is one way ... lay the radio in the passenger seat and drive the truck through the pasture to get an idea as to whether-or-not the truck's motor control system is quiet enough (from a radio frequency interference standpoint).

In 2017 I bought a Chinese UTV (Joyner R2 1100ccc), it was only about $7000, compared to several times that amount for the more well known brands. It gets used a lot, as I live in northern Arizona and they can be driven on the highway, as well as many, many places right in my community that I can ride off-road , as we are surrounded by national forest. It has been a great vehicle, and has only required minimal routine maintenance. The only reason they can get the price they do for the better known brand UTVs is the 'easy monthly payment financing'. They are definitely overpriced.
A campground my buddy goes to has 3 of these for their maintenance crew and apparently they love them. Guess they used to have golf carts so this is definitely a step up from that. Thanks for sharing and it's great to see it's being used and enjoyed.

Isn't that Isuzu made and rebranded to Nissan? There are still many of those in our rural areas, some with the exterior panel pretty beat up, but still hauling with little smoke behind them. Those and the Toyota's of that era, they always seem to start as soon as the starter makes a sound...
Same with the 99 era dodge diesels and cj7 jeep, price goes up n up, people ask so much its borderline harassment! Ha. They aren't mine but I've experienced it when driving them
I watched the original video on this truck and now this one, and I really enjoy your presentation. One thing I was hoping to see more about was running the air conditioner while actually using the truck to see what the cost is. The AC would be important here in Texas, especially bumping around at low speed. If you could find some way to quantify usage with and without the AC so that we can see whether or not the larger battery is needed. I suspect that with the lift bed it probably is, still it would be interesting information to me.
Great video, thanks! And congratulations! I have a couple of questions; Does it have heating in the AC? Does it have air bag? And what's the max speed? And where I can order one? Thanks in advance :)

It is pretty useful around a ranch, and just about zero maintenance is a plus. The suspension seems to be configured for heavier loads, and since your family is hauling lighter stuff, you could go to a softer spring rate (if you can find something you could adapt to it). Thanks for the video!
Just love the vibe of your videos. Especially videos with you and your dad in the same frame. There's something really wholesome about a dad, his son and the farm. Keep up with the videos.

Don't use any thick paint like product (undercoating, bed liner, etc) on the frame and undercarriage. Those products trap moisture and hide any rust that forms. Get some Wool Wax or Fluid Film and spray those areas down. Drill small holes at the front and rear of the lower doors and spray in there too. You may have to repeat every few years but, it will never rust out.
Not true at all, paint is vastly superior to bare metal and thus was painted from the factory on parts where it matters. What you are thinking of is the advice people give for treating something ALREADY rusted. Plus, I doubt you have any concept of farm use on dirt/mud/etc, where it gets flung on and a little wool wax or fluid film will only slow that down, and isn't fully resistant to the power washing that's going to be needed to clean it. Yes you can recoat after every wash but what a pain of effort and continual expense for a low value vehicle.
@@stinkycheese804 He was referring to thicker coatings, they tend to hide the rust until it’s to late. Good primer and paint would definitely be the best option
@@stinkycheese804 - I'm 70+ years old and live in the rust belt. I've had new and old vehicles and guarantee what I said is correct. The Chinese are not very good in preparing metal before they paint it and, as any professional painter will tell you, preparation is everything.
It's nice seeing a small truck for once, they are pretty much non-existent in the US. I like the practicality but I don't like the bulkiness of size of modern trucks. It's like the truck makers intentionally oversize all of the body paneling so there is a ton of hollow and empty space on all sides of the truck just to make it look larger.
@@ThisIS_Insane Those aren't crumple zones. Crumple zones are parts of the chassis that are intentionally shaped to be weaker so they bend and crush during impacts. What I'm talking about is huge empty volumes of space in areas that don't make sense as a crumple zone. For example looking at modern trucks there is almost several feet of empty space between the front of the engine block and the actual front of the car. All of the materials in that space is plastic and thin stamped sheet metal with zero structural integrity.
@@kelliintexas3575 I had a subaru for a short while once. Worst mistake of my life. So much rattly cheap plastic inside and the engine was either burning oil or just dumping it out of every seal.
Basically it's a golf cart with all the bells and whistles. It's neat, but what's the top speed? -Can it be used on the highway?- How long will a charge last during road use? -How do you recharge it?- That killed it, not street legal. Basically it's a cool toy that you can use for light utility on property. Thanks for the valuable info on it. Nice job answering all the commonly asked questions. If I get one, I will see about fitting it with a motorcycle engine.
An explanation for the IP infringements is they probably got it from companies who made those parts for the original companies as overstock. So they decided to make a Frankenstein version by reusing the parts that would otherwise be trashed. From an environmental conscious perspective, i love it.
Having lived in China for a few years I can say these things are all over the village and country sides in China. Many farmers such as yourself use this to haul hay and stuff around the farm. These things, from what I re-call would last around 5-8 years depending on how you use them and how much stuff you put them through. Cost of fixing these are cheaper in China so people would just keep fixing'er up. There is also the electric tricycle thing with a hauler in the back as well that you should look into. It costs around 1000 USD, has less horse power but also electric. It's amazing for moving things in short distances like in and around your farm. China has stopped making shitty and cheap stuff long time ago, it's actually our own governments that prevents them selling these kind of things in US or Canada. You paid $2,000 for this, I bet about 200-300 are tariffs and various taxes. Same with the tricycle I was referring to, it's probaby around 800 USD but you need to pay another 200 for duties tariffs and other stuff.
I guess for us in the west it reminds us when things were more simple. We can't have this because every damn manufacturer is trying to shovel us with big complicated stuff with lots of software and telemetry and so much lock-in that you can't just get your stuff for repair to any local shop. There's a huge second-hand market for Tractors in my country for this very reason. People buying and selling old tractors, even for brands that exist no more, just because they are simple, reliable, easy to repair, and you can even get compatible parts manufactured by small companies. But I guess in a world where you're only a cow to milk money from, sooner or later having old stuff will effectively banned too.
He actually paid around $8000 in total (laid out in first video). $1500 ish for upgrades like hydraulic lift, AC and bigger battery etc, the rest is tariff/shipping/custom fees.

RE: suction cup mirror:
The secret to getting it to stay on is to wait until the windshield is as hot as you expect it to be. If you put it on while cold, the microscopic amount of air between the suction cup and the windshield will expand when heating up, and it will fall. Consult any person driving with a dashcam for uber or lyft.
Silicone sealant applied. Never coming off now. regards
People get used electric golf carts for the purpose of running around their property. Easier to step on/off and those things fly.
Do not text the WhatsApp number it's a scam
It's a perfect little yard truck. Stays on the property. Perfect landscaping companion if you ask me.
Even has AC? Don't need to drive far in the yard. Use that battery to create a little AC compartment to follow you around the garden. Amazing.
My Honda mini truck would be next best thing. Now they are about $10k but I got a very nice example for $6k with ac and gets about 50mpg and ford 75mph.
After all the shipping and port fees and everything he paid I think it was between $8,000 and $10,000
Even after the upgrades, dutys, fees, etc. it's still cheaper than a quad.

@@Tacdelio Nothing moving is completely quiet, but its definitely something to look into for sure.
Wiper engineering is something I have played with for 43 years.
It seems like something that would be good for a golf coarse maintenance truck . Once you put the hydraulic dump bed in that makes it more useful
Seems like some other people with way more expensive trucks out there, had not "enjoyed" their toys like you guys do... this is just awesome !!!
For the rearview mirror, make sure that the glass and suction cup is completely clean. If there's any dust or dirt it prevents suction from staying. Or epoxy it on.
Silicone lube is best remedy for suction cups
Since I was young, the solution is always to put a drop of water to the suction cup and spread it around. Wet the glass/ceramic too if you feel like it. The water will get rid of all the air and it's gonna stay sticky for good.
I would just get a regular rear view mirror and mount (the metal piece) and use the rear view mirror adhesive they sell in the auto parts store. Should hold for at least a decade or more, even in the sun.

Would be cool to build a “car port” for it that’s got solar panels on the roof. Would protect it from the elements and charge it at the same time. I’d address that small rust issue before it becomes problematic though.
That rust is on the roof rack. The frame is fine, and it'll be cheaper and more efficient to replace it when needed than endeavor to "address" it now.

You've just described "crush zones" those areas built-in to vehicles that are designed collapse to absorb energy during a collision.
Well said!
Then get a Elcamino or a Suburu brat 🤣
Man it's still a cool little truck and I wouldn't let the hater's bother you. They're jealous!
No one’s jealous here
let the haters hate
An explanation for the IP infringements is they probably got it from companies who made those parts for the original companies as overstock. So they decided to make a Frankenstein version by reusing the parts that would otherwise be trashed. From an environmental conscious perspective, i love it.
^and there is also nothing right about intellectual property theft. One of the worst traits of China.
There not the actual parts from other companies they just copyed the designs from other companies and made there parts to look the same.
@@andrearoden713 could be. Best way to check if that is true or not is go to a jeep car and see if for example the lights are the same quality.
I stumbled on a real gem of a channel here. I like what you said about china. I bought a Honda four wheeler before they were built here. I used the same argument you made way back then. They build them here now and they still can’t compare in performance, longevity, or price. Meanwhile my antique is still putting. Hope you have the same experience. I’ll be watching.
