- In today's episode, you learn how to create realistic road material with no need to unwrap! we will take a simple asphalt material and add some life to it by adding spots, cracks, dust, and leaves. There is also another cool tip at the end, so stick around ...Let's get started!
Lesson Breakdown
Start with a basic and clean asphalt material.
using the composite map we can add layers to the diffuse map:
Dark spots texture, set to multiply and lower the opacity
cracks - multiply mode, lower opacity, mask it with another map
dust - bright asphalt, mask it with distance map.
dry leaves - able the alpha inside the png file, add a distance map as mask
add spline for road marks, and add it to distance as well.
**you can add more and more layers of dirt, cracks, patches, and so on, inside the base asphalt composite map.
thank you for being here I'll see you next time!

This tutorial is really helpful because I hate using unwrap. Thank you very much!
For most things unwrap is a better way of doing things. However a road is different.
good job bro tnx
Hi Idan. Its an exellent tutorial. It would be great, if you upload the textures as well.
Wow! I really thank you your amazing tutorial your knowledge is just amazing😃🙌.
How can I get this road mark to use to the opacity channel of the Material? Where can I use the same as you did in the video?
Best!
great tutorial. it would be nice to see this prosses with vray, especially with the distance effect
Thanks for the suggestion, will do in the future.
good tutorial. thx!
You're welcome!

Thank you!
You're welcome
You are so cool
Nice work dude
Thanks!
Great work.do you share the textures?
כל הכבוד!
תודה!
Good!!
Vray render??
Please also make a tutorial on the road gutter and curb please..tnx
Hey man, great tutorial! One quick question: when I applied corona distance shader it got the same uvw as my asphalt texture (2x2m) and not the full size of the road, so it get's all tilled. Any quick fixes?
the distance value isn't affected by uvw maps, it goes by the system units. are you referring to a map you put inside the distance map? If so then you can either change the map tiling parameter or change its uvw channel to 2 and also add a new uvw modifier with the same Map channel
nevermind, just solved it!
hi mate, would you mind to share the textures used here? thanks
hi guys, what is the method to multiply/lengthen the road? (like the highway look here in the video)
what about scene mapping in max?
i can,t find bitmaps like you useing where can i find it ?
How do you do this on a crossroad?
Where can I get the texture?
I APPLY ROAD LANE ON CURVE IT,S DID,NT WORK HOW DO YOU UNWRAP IT ?
AND IF WE HAVE INTERSECTION THEN ?
HELLO HOW ARE YOUFROM FROM WHERE WE GET THE ALL THE MAPS?
Hey buddy can you please share those png or jpg files ?
On a long journey, the texture begins to repeat. I only have a V-Ray. How to prevent it. Thanks

Hi Bro.....I very Very Impresses by your way of working...i wanna you as a my 3dsexpert learner.....Can you help me plz...
I made all same but mine just doesn't look that good :(
Well, it can depend on the type of maps that you are using, the post processing of the render and so on... It took me several attempts to get a decent look I was going for. Just keep practicing and you'll get there :)
Can anyone tell me how AAA games create their roads?
So pooooo
So bad
"The best place to learn" doesn't even know how to spell Realistic.
