Top video. Thanks for posting. Just about to start mine. Good tip about always turning the dial anti clockwise too. I’ve bought a new set of controls (suspect faulty A/C button) and they have revised the design. Now you can only turn the dial anti clockwise.
Damn, all your cars are right hand drive. I cannot change the rope by removing the glove box. because the torpedo of the vehicle is on the right. thank you again. an instructive video.
Super helpful vid, thanks! Had the blower motor replaced by a vw garage and I had this issue with the controls. They took the van back and told me it needed another control mechanism that was probably due to old age/'wear and tear'. They would need to order the part from Germany at £153 and there was a 10 day delay. Fitting of this new part was to be £59, so it was going to cost me over £200 for something that was working perfectly well before the blower was changed. I ordered the cable (£15) as you suggested and did the whole job in less than 30 mins! Thank you bud!
Only turn it anti- clockwise in the future. One of my cable / rod things bent whilst being pushed but was fine being pulled... But only when the functions are cycled anti clockwise.
Hi everybody, having the same problem as described in the video. Question: I have the steerwheel on the left side. Would you think the end of the cable is mirrored and I will find it behind the dash board compartment. I ask this, because I had some one look at it and he unscrewed part of the dash board and said that the cable was attached behind the steering wheel and it would be a hell of a job, because the whole dashboard had to be uninstalled. Honestly, seeing the video that doesn't make much sense to me as I guess everything is mirrored.
Sorry for reserecting this great video, but can you tell me if when i have tge cable removed from the dials unit should i be able to turn the dial freely,,mine is still jammed in place,so im thinking it may be the unit thats the problem not the csble,, it is the braded one but looks ok.. Thanks

@@muffer00000007 in mine it was easy, pull gently straight out, wiggle a little.

Make sure you clip the ball in between the space on the ball insert so the cable is coming out between the ball insert space

Yes the dial should turn very easy with no cable on. Id guess that the teeth are damaged on the gears.
Yea as I thought,,I'll try locate a 2nd hand controller..
But will replace the cable also..while I have it out..
Thanks
Nice video, Thx
Hi mate, great video! I’ve managed to get the ball in place but then the securing clip, not sure how this gets in place! Any tips?
Hi, you've to rotate it a bit and push sideways until it clicks in place. Try with a long screwdriver or someone with small hands
no wonder you didn't show putting cable in its took me a day and still haven't managed it
Must be that famous German engineering I always hear about
Hi, can you tell me where did you buy that radio?
Hi, not sure where it's from as it just with the van.
how did u get the ball back on new cable i couldnt get me hand in to do mine bud
The ball just pushes (to the right) in to a .."clasp" , then there is the locking clip further along the cable.
Mate I couldnt find this kit at ebay . Any chances to send a link below plz.
