Fishing A Sketchy, Deep Dammed Up River FLOOD ALARM SOUNDS!….RUN!!!!!!

- Sooooo…. This happened while I was out there on the send. Honestly such a bad idea wading out a football fields length from the shore line but there were sooo many fish I couldn’t resist. This river system has so much to offer and doing a wade line was 100% gonna put me on some untouched fish. This spot gets fished but only from the bank. There’s a rock line that parallels the dam from the entire way out and the only way to find it is by sendin it!!! Haha. I had a plan in my head to get all the way o it there after looking at the spot on satilite view. It seemed like there was a wadable stretch to get me in the juice! All these fish are gonna be stacked right under the dam where the bait is being pumped. The one issue tho… the fact that this water can rage at any second! There was literally a sign on the bank “water willl raise rapidly after 3 alarm sounds.” So I just crossed my fingers and got my butt out there so I could get on some donks! I’d figure the rest out later if the alarm did happen to sound but I was confident it wouldn’t cus we didn’t get any rain all week! So I’m make my way out, catching a handful of fish on the way and seeing some even crazier fish. (10lb bowfin and 40 inch Gar) then I catch a nice largemouth right after lose a tanker smallie. This is a day of fishing I dream for. Intense action on the swimbait. Then I start wading even further out. I was getting comfortable at this point, hook a giant fish on the jerk bait. Turned out to be a big carp, then land a bass. Now here is where it gets interesting. I almost sensed it, and then…. WOOOOOOO WOOOOOOO WOOOOOOO. I F@$!?ing booked it dude! Across the jagged slippery rocks, running for my life. Alarm sounds second time. I have 1 more left! I keep springing, almost not seeing straight. And the rest is history. I’m here to tell the tale and also a bit confused about how this all went down! But enjoy the heart thumping adrenaline of this one! Definitely a unique moment out there !

That's the siren that goes off whenever Phoenix FD gets alerted for a call, you were in absolutely no danger lmao
there’s same model sirens for different things- those sirens are for alerting people that the dam is rising but your VFD may have the same siren model.

The current for something like that will always win. Staying out there just because you didn’t see any water immediately was probably not the smartest. It wouldn’t have hurt to get out of the water for a minute and watch and wait before deciding it was all clear.
There’s different levels n luckily they didn’t open the gates all the way

Remember. Mostly the current always wins so swim with the current and hopefully down the road you can find something to hold on too or later the current wont be as strong so you can swim at a 45 degree angle till you reach shore if you fight the current you loose. Every year in the southern US and elsewhere people get caught in rip currents on the beach and get pulled out, you can't outswim the current just go with it hopefully someone will call for help. This is my belief and I have some experience

isnt like swimming in a rip current.... ,its like swimming in rapids. swimming at a 45 degree angle wont do shit when you got rapid currents going downstream.
Very true good advice in a strong current you can only go with it, you angle it as best you can so that at some pt down current you get closer to shore (or someone comes to get you) if not even finding something to hold onto down the way
Or always pray to Jesus on a fishing adventure, he recently saved my stupid arse by having the current lead me to a nice escape when swept through some rapids...which btw, if you are more than knee deep, I would not be stepping around big rocks...random deep holes can take one foot and then you are gone.

To me, that doesn't sound like the siren coming from the dam. I believe the dam uses an air horn kind of like a boat or train. That actually sounds like a fire siren, an outdoor warning siren, like a tornado siren, used to alert volunteer firefighters there's a call. If you were fishing in a small town, they likely still use their siren as a backup for pagers and phone alerts for a call.
