I'm a 52 year old man and attended my first concert with Babymetal a few weeks ago. Took 3 seconds, I teared up and fell in love with the band.
Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊 They have different songs that can effect different people in exactly the same way - and we can't explain it, they just have that effect.
This video was from January 2015 at the Saitama Super Arena. Su was 17, Yui and Moa only 15 and that was over 20,000 people completely under their control. Even at that age Su just looks at the crowd, spreads her arms and the crowd opens up for a wall of death (actually several walls of death at that concert as the crowd were in sections. A journalist up in the balcony that night said he counted, I think it was, 21 mosh pits).
This was the end of a 90 minute concert and yes, they had been keeping that same energy up without any drop in quality for the whole time. It is what they do - they appreciate people have often paid a lot of money and travelled a long way to see them, they never give anything less than 100% for every song at every concert, whether that is one of their big arena concerts in Japan or at the many various sized venues as they tour the world.
You mentioned their choreo not being like moves taken from the standard dance step grab bag. You are right, it is bespoke for each song and serves two main purposes:
1 it helps with interpreting the meaning of the song or a lyric - they are not just dancing to the beat, they are performing the song;
2 it is designed to lead the crowd, to get everybody involved letting them know when to jump, when to pump their fists, when to shout etc and basically it is intended that everybody in the crowd becomes involved, joining in and that they are an important part of the performance.
You may also notice there is nothing sexual or suggestive about BABYMETAL's choreo.
This was the official video, they actually cut that outro short by at least a couple of minutes while the girls went to each different side of the stage to shout "We are ... BABYMETAL" with as many of the audience as they could get near to.
As well as that long central bridge out to the small stage there were two more bridges at either end of the stage leading to a couple more small stages that they used at various points in the show.
About the song itself. 'Road of Resistance' is a very positive song, it isn't the usual "resist the machine or the system etc" that we might expect from the title. It is about forging your own road even where a road doesn't already exist, not necessarily going the easy way or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way.
It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band, they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy route to follow.
I hope you will react to more of their songs - especially live performances as that is where (and I think you saw here) they are at their very best. RAH22 and Jake Muller have already given you some great suggestions.

I'm glad to see more reactors getting into this group in such a special moment with the girls recently going on live tour around Europe and more is coming around the world. Last month they released the new album and although there's a lot of great songs there, this is one of those major hits they don't wanna left behind in any of their setlist like recently finishing all the concerts with this epic anthem.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal".
They are:
*SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25.
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 23.
*YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018.
*MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st.
None of them are related.
After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status changed like i said.
_Road Of Resistance_ is a power/speed metal song, is one of their most epic anthem and got the guitar arrangements made by Sam Totman and Herman Li from DragonForce, and is all about facing your own path without looking back.
The wall of death is insane, is also called "mosh'sh pit", different from usual mosh pit because this one is safe to participate if you fall everyone will stop until you get up and get ready to keep going with the fun ride.
This was part of the Trilogy Of 2015 series of concerts, live at New Year Fox Festival - Saitama Super Arena, is the last song of the encore they performed and finishing the show. By this time their fame was already high due to viral success on YT of Gimme Chocolate! MV, people from all over the world attended this live concert in Japan, and 20K souls witnessed this epic moment.
With only 15 and 17 years old this moment will be forever remember when they performing this song to reminds them all the support they got from their fans no matter where they go, either a small or big stages.
The Kami Band here are magnificent set of elite musicians who were send to help the girls with the metal sound, they rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (specially the guitarrists), all of them are males.
BM fans love some members of this band but none of them are official members of this group not even permanent, they only play live, so when you heard album tracks remember they aren't playing there.
In this case they are:
- Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording certain songs.
- Takayoshi Ohmura, god of guitar, he's Míkio' Fujioka's pupil (another beloved Kami Band guitarist who sadly past away) and a prodigy child, you'll see his recognizable pink guitar or golden in other moments.
- BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP.
- Hideki Aoyama, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is very famous in Japanese music scene.
At the end of their shows they always said "We are BabyMetal!" with the crowd, to making them sure that they're part of this show and project too, is a line borrowed to X-Japan saying it at live concerts too.
If you like this type of metal genre then you're gonna love another previous song from first album called *"Ijime Dame Zettai"* live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 and witness a precious and epic moment on their career. You can find that clip in the official channel but just be careful coz sometimes is getting blocked issues.

Babymetal makes me cry, too, but for different reasons. I love the whole package of Babymetal, but for me, I think the drummer (Hideki Aoyama) is an absolute god. He isn't just A rock god, he is THE rock god. I cry EVERY time I hear/watch him play. EVERY SINGLE TIME. What he does on the drums is pure magic.

RoR is their anthemic song and have been performed in almost all their shows since November 2014. They are actually performing it in on-going shows in Europe.
The crowd involvement (mosh pit, call & response, chant etc.) occurs wherever they go on this planet. In your video, Su shouted some words at 08:31 in your video meaning "Bring them on!". Fans analyzed that the provocative shout was thrown at people who had been ignoring, underrating, mocking, hating and even trying to discredit BABYMETAL. That shout may have been necessary in 2015 but not any longer. The girls have grown up into beautiful ladies now. The maturity has added more attractiveness to this band. BABYMETAL never disappoints, it's wild thinking those girls were 12 when the band was first formed.
They do have a song called Karate incidentally.

Su Metal brings the tears out to everyone. Music for the soul. You have to hear her rap BxMxC or Pa Pa Ya
Wow, starting out with a banger. RoR, specifically this concert/video ultimately gave them the acceptance from the metal community as being something more than just a silly gimmick. and turned many a skeptics into fans (including myself actually).
They've been touring for ages now. Girls are 23 and 25 (one of them left sadly in 2018..health issues, the big cheeked dancer, not the one with dimples. just replaced her a few weeks ago officially).
Umm...what to show next...lots of people will do Rondo of Nightmare next, but it really depends. RoN shows the musicians talent, then a solo by the main singer (Su-metal), but really..perhaps something like Headbanger. I would skip the official version and go straight to the BUDOKAN BLACK NIGHT version that shows them live across a few different venues. They are actually better live than their videos typically and it gives you an idea of size.

You might like Karate as you mentioned the martial arts - generally these girls are ALWAYS better live but a few of their videos are very good Karate & Megitsune amongst them. The lead singer is known for her very clear/clean voice that works woonderfully with the metal. Great reaction. Pretty much no matter what (surprisingly - most bands seem to have about a 50% hit rate at best re. good songs)you listen to from them will be good though

These young ladies perform their hearts out every song, every concert. Can't imagine the amount of work that goes into a flawless performance like this. Gets me misty some times too. Please continue down the rabbit hole!!!
They have a song called Karate but I recommend you to watch a live version, no audio/MV version is as good as BABYMETAL's live performance. Some songs that I recommend you listen to would be the Trilogy of Light (Starlight, Shine and Arkadia, in that order), Syncopation, Karate, Headbanger (the version of Budokan 2014, 2021 or the most loved by fans, Moabanger) Monochrome, Shanti Shanti Shanti etc. They really are very talented girls and they have incredible songs.

the band in the background are all men they are called the kamiband. now there are multiple kami bands or something but thats the original. one of the 2 guitarists in the original kami band named Mikio was stargazing and fell to his death. its really unfortunate because he was such an amazing player and the other guitarist was his prodigy so it hurt him a lot. the theyre all legends at their instruments and then we get su with the vocals. you should hear rondo of nightmare at budokan black night. it has an intro from the kamiband where they show off their skills before su comes in and kicks ass. you should seriously check it out. and for a newer babymetal song a great one is mirror mirror. theyve always been experimental as their entire thing was an experiment from the beginning but now they are being even more outside of the box. im gonna try to see them on their tour with dethklok

Awesome reaction! As many of people have said, Babymetal has that effect on people. The main singer, Su-Metal, just has this magic power to evoke emotions most people think they have control over. I've seen full-grown metalhead men fullblown crying to the point where they have to stop talking for a moment and collect themselves and feel the need to apologize. Babymetal is a band where I don't think it is considered wrong to cry over. In some songs, it is almost expected even. I'm going to make the assumption you're going to react to more Babymetal since their first song had such a powerful effect on you, I'll assume you're going to want to see more, so I'll introduce the ladies to you lol
The main singer's name is Suzuka Nakamoto, but on stage she transforms into Su-Metal. Transform is actually the perfect word with Su as when you see how she is off-stage, she is super humble, kinda dorky, a bit clumsy, and full of smiles and energy. Also, once she starts talking, be prepared for her to go total motormouth as she totally gets into whatever it is she is talking about and really goes on and on lol Off-stage I'd even go so far as to say she's adorable. Su was born in 1997, that year is important as some videos will reference Legend 1997. That is referring to her birthyear and is from a concert celebrating her birthday. Su-Metal will almost always have the hand mic and will always have her hair done in a Ponytail.
Next up you have Moametal. Offstage, her name is Moa Kikuchi. She was born in 1999. Moa is the troublemaker of the group. She's playfully mischievous, and normally does little things in the concerts to try and get Su to laugh. She's also been known to have face-making contests with the drummer during concerts. Moa is a huge foodie and isn't shy about making sure any interviewer she is speaking with knows it. You'll be able to find Moa by her hair and cheeks. Her hair will be done in pigtails, and she will have huge dimples when she smiles. Moa is one of the original 3 members of Babymetal.
The third member is Yuimetal. Her real name is Yui Mizuno. She was also born in 1999. Actually Yui and Moa have birthdays that are pretty close to each other. Just a few weeks apart. Yui is the shy girl. She doesn't speak much unless spoken to most of the time, although sometimes during interviews she is the one that answers the general questions. Yui is very soft-spoken. She also has pigtails when performing and you can distinguish her from Moa, again, from the cheeks. Yui has chubby baby cheeks that she is very proud of. Sadly, in 2018 Yui decided to leave the band permanently due to health reasons.
To help fill the gap left by Yui, Babymetal hired 3 girls to take turns filling in for Yui's spot in dancing only. Babymetal named the 3 girls the Avengers. You'll know an Avenger from the hairstyle again. Avengers don't have Ponytails or Pigtails. Instead their hair is down and they'll have twin buns where the pigtails would have been. At the beginning of April, Babymetal announced that they had found a new member for Babymetal to replace the 3 avengers. The new member ended up being one of the Avengers. She had performed with Babymetal much more often than both other girls combined I think at that point. Also the other 2 girls had other projects they had going and didn't have time to fill in for Babymetal anymore. The new member is named Momoko Okazaki. She was born in 2003, so she is now the youngest member. Momo now has her hair done in pigtails, like Moa, and also has a handless mic like Moa. Her stage name is Momometal.
Babymetal started when the girls were quite young. Su was 14 and Moa and Yui were 12. They became offical in 2010, at which point they became known as Babymetal and began doing performances and such. Before that they were still, I guess you could say, in the prepping stage. They were going to a school that teaches girls how to become performers in essence and it is at this school that Babymetal was born. The name of the school was Sakura Gakuin in case you want to look it up and maybe do some reaction videos to it. If you do, you'll EASILY find Su in the performances with all the other girls simply by the way she dances. She'll be one of the taller girls, and she is very thin and gangly. Her dancing is awkward and clumsy kinda. It's really cute to see as she doesn't look like she's really very comfortable with her body and how it moves. That being said, even at that point she was VERY serious about perfecting her art and was always trying to become better and better. If you contrast with how she danced then to how she dances now, the difference is night and day! It's actually quite amazing when you see how much she's improved!
Anyhow, welcome to the Babymetal universe. There is a lot to enjoy. Babymetal is more than just song and dance. They have incorporated a lot of story and lore into the band. Their songs are all very unique from each other. So no 2 songs sound the same. They love experimenting with mixing different genres and have an amazing talent of making their mixes, which typically SHOULDN'T sound good, well. They make their mixing sound amazing! You're probably going to develop a kinship with this ladies and begin to look at them as either your kids, or your younger siblings. In both cases though you're going to be hugely proud of them, one of the main reasons why I think a lot of people get so emotional watching them. So enjoy the ride!

BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were only 11 when the group began.
All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life the girls would learn and train to be idols and graduate at age 15 to move onto whatever entertainment path they chose.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues) and Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).

They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)

At their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki (who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019) has officially become the third member.

Someone could be a hundred feet tall and never come close to matching the stage presence of these three barely five foot tall 16 year old Japanese girls, their energy and command over a live crowd is absolutely unparalleled. They're an absolute force during their live shows and I can't get enough of it.
Really cool and original band, does seem like schtick or just a gimmic at first but it's so cool and well done, they hard a hard road of resistance in the metal community at first but were quickly embraced and heralded for their originality and dedication to their own style of heavy music. They're coming on tour soon w/Dethklock which will be a great concert experience.
I'll be seeing them for the second time ever when they come to NYC. My first time was their NYC stop on their 2019 tour with Avatar.

Im sure its been said that that they are only the 3 girls now women in the front. If you want all women groups, Japan is the place to go to!! For Rock and Hard Rock and my favorite band, you have Band Maid. Its a 5 piece band and they dress as various forms of Maid costume but the music is legit. I think, the best band in rock today. For Metal, you have Lovebites and Nemophila. I keep going back and forth on which i like better and I CAN NOT DECIDE!! I love them both. Any of thier lastest songs with videos offical you should be able to react too with no problem. They also have subtitles. I do love me some Babymetal though.
