@@PaulGaither hell nah! We're fans. It's our job to hype the team up. Only people who need to worry about being humble is the players and I know they are locked in
@1:43 - Just look at these ball-hawks swarm to the ball like a bunch of angry hornets defending their hive! There were 6 defenders within five yards of the ball by the time the receiver caught it! But what's even more amazing is how they've been able to refrain from allowing teams to use their aggressive style of play against them.. It's truly unbelievable just how disciplined this unit is as a whole..
The defensive scheme accounts for most of the possible plays. It's up to the players to be disciplined and stay in their assignments. When they do that they can stop most plays for a loss or short gain. When they don't do that is when they give up a play. Agree the discipline has been better, but by far the largest factor in the improvement in the defense this year has been better understanding of how to play the scheme, due to actual game experience playing in it.
@@LoanwordEggcorn - And what's allowed for them to execute the scheme as well as they have, has been the development of their discipline. Their ability to stay at home and defend their gaps on run plays despite all of the phantom motion and misdirection being used against them; as well as their abilities to diagnose the play-action on post-snap reads, and react in a timely matter so as to not be caught out of position in the passing game.. These things are all a credit to their ability to reamain disciplined throughout their reads and play-diagnosis..
The funny part is it was already in the making. The front 4 personnel are amazing talents from different draft years and it came together when the Niners were able to trade for Dee Ford and got the opportunity to pick Nick Bosa. It took awhile but at least every week one of the four guys was going to cause havoc against the QB.
49ers have 5 first rounders on the D-Line and each of them had a sack against the VIkings: Armstead, Buckner, Ford, Thomas, and Bosa twice. Thomas got some help from Zettel.
Great breakdown as always! I can't help but wonder how proud Mike Shanahan feels knowing not only that his son is tearing up the league but that there's so many teams running his scheme. He's the original mastermind that got us 2 Broncos Super Bowls! Lol

He's taken it all, added wrinkles and made it his own. And he calls it incredibly well. (Kyle calls it better than Sean McVay, Matt Lafleur, etc., who were all his students.)

They also have a lot of great leaders in key positions. Jimmy G, Richard Sherman, and George Kittle are all big time team players who seem to garner a lot of respect from their teammates despite all being relatively fresh faces to the organization.
Would love to see you do a pre-superbowl breakdown of how the 49ers' defense does against offenses similar to the Chiefs. It seems like they've struggled against quarterbacks similar to Mahomes this past season
I will say, I'm not sure there really is an offense similar to the Chiefs. The teams that have given the 49ers issues are mobile QBs (Kyler, Russ, Lamar kinda), so that will play a major factor.
From the Legion of Boom to the San Francisco Rush 2020, we are seeing some elite defenses come up given the right opportunity under the right GM and the right defensive mind to figure out how to optimize the personnel. Inevitably this group will break up once the key pieces have to be paid out but I'll enjoy it while it lasts along with seeing the return of the run offense.
Great stuff, as usual. I'm curious if you think this team is built to last longer than the '11-13 Harbaugh team? That era ended too quickly, but this one seems overall younger.
Things in the NFL always last so much shorter than we expect, but if there's a team to do it, this 49ers team looks to be it. Shanahan, Lynch, ownership have a really good relationship (big reason why Harbaugh failed) the team is incredibly young (no sudden retirements) and the QB situation is more reliable (though I'm a bit critical of Jimmy G). Going to be sad when these big contracts come around and players will have to leave, but they should be real solid for the next handful of years.

At the start of the season after the 2nd game, my mailman asked if the defense of the niners are good this year? I said if they can cover those receivers just long enough, the 4 DL will get to the QB for sure. That has been the story this season. Covering the receivers that QBs have to wait 1second more. 3seconds is average but anything longer diminishes the chances of the QB to get the ball out on the Niners front 4.
Overall a good vid which shows you need good playcalling but more importantly good personnel throughout the side. Even if Sherman gets burned- of all people - it's covered. A play 'normally' works vs this pattern? Not with *this* D.
Mahones and that offense is really good, but i like the Niners D chances. How many times in a SB has everyone talked about a teams amazing offense and yet it was the Defense that won the championship! Seattle beating Denver, Pats beating the rams (twice), Giants beating the pat (twice) Denver beating Carolina...etc. Can't say SF will win, but i like their chances.
You nailed it Joseph, that's exactly my thinking and why I put more than a few sheckles on the 49ers to win it. Reminds me especially of those speedy front 4s the Giants had against the Pats in 07, just like you said.
@@AlexRollinsNFL responding 3 years later and the defense did more than enough to win shanahan played not to win but too be competitive(should have ran the ball more and not let jimmy who had not passed more than 20 times in the postseason before the super bowl carry the team).

Let go 49ers

Why do you only analysis the niners? I’m a niners fan so I’m more than happy you do but just wondering
I covered the team for Niners Nation SBnation page. I'll be doing college draft videos on prospects in the offseason and start to do more teams offseason/next year
Ah ok, keep uploading the great content, you are the one who got me into the Xs and Os of football. I’m excited to see your channel grow in the near future. Keep up the great work 👍🏼
@@ricearony9723 thank you Rice

Green Bay who's winning the championship belt.
