  • This is part 1 of 2 in my talk about Steven Hayes' "A Liberated Mind: How to Pivot Towards What Matters." In this video, I'm going to talk about how Hayes believes we form the voice in our heads. He explains it through Relational Frame Theory, which I think is really super freaking fascinating, and how this voice in our head started when we were 3 or 4 years old, and how everything in our lives has been added to that story of ourselves, which - eventually - ends up causing us a lot of suffering, anxiety, and depression. It's a neat theory, from a very neat book. All of the friends I got into it love it, and the book club discussion we had on it was pretty great as well.
    So, check it out, and if you're still interested, part 2 of the video will talk about how to overcome this voice in our heads, how to turn from psychological inflexibility towards flexibility, and how to live a life where our actions are in line with our values.
