My immediate thought when you talked about mitten blockers was to trace them on old thin plastic cutting board material and then cut them into blockers! (Yes I do have some hiding in the cupboard that I don’t know if they can be recycled- so why not reuse them?! Now you have me excited to knit some mittens and try it! PS- thanks ladies- you bring curiosity, kindness, and cleverness to a hobby I adore. And I love your use of highbrow and lowbrow yarn- super approachable.
Kate, I’ve knit a lot of mittens and when I was deep in stranded mitten world, I made a couple of sets of blockers out of cardboard and duct tape. I wrapped the cardboard to waterproof. The hand was one piece and the thumb separate. They worked pretty well. But I also blocked mittens and just pulled and pushed them into shape. Love the episode!
You could also try to block the mittens on a long baloon you blow 15 % smaller than your desired circomference. They will fit perfect on your hands later. After knitting a 28" x 52" baby blanket "Honeycomb Afghan" by Laura Strutt, during hot humid Montreal weather, I am now knitting my second pair of "Color Palette Socks" by Laura Moorats, best pattern to get through leftover fingering yarns.
Make a mitten blocker. I made a set of sock blockers with a plastic flexible cutting board from the dollar store. A placemat works too. Use kitchen scissors.
I love your podcasts and the suggestions for various patterns are wonderful. I'm looking forward to giving some of them a try. You asked for what we're knitting at the moment and I'm knitting the Stephen West SSAL. I've never done any kind of KAL but so far I'm finding it fun but occasionally a challenge, especially when I find that I've misread the directions but I'm enjoying Stephen's helpful videos.
I think Laura should have picked some Ito Sensai as well. It's a nice fine mohair and so soft. I am now trying to work out how many skeins of Eldrich I will need to have shipped as no other colour will ever do...thank you! I was working on another Vuono Hat as I watched you podcast. I think that's number five and I still have to knit my own. You're fun to watch, I loved when all three of you leaned back as one 😂
Hi from Surrey BC❤️ So much fun to watch this episode… all the mishaps were super entertaining in a good way😂- Kim… I am just learning to Sew too👏👏👏 working on my first pattern “The Pocket Skirt” by Peppermint or Paper Theory. All: love your pattern and colour choices… the stripes! The grays, blues, teals… and the YARN- Omg- pure luxury. Thank you for a fun hour and Laura- safe travels. See you all next time- hoping to catch you live🤗. Big hug to you all- Linda
Ladies such a nice podcast. I get so excited when I see an episode. Thank you for taking the time and sharing. All of you travel safely and have a great time!
It’s always fun to hang out with you. I just cast on The Emsworth Vest by Isabel Kraemer and when I started typing this I remembered you helped me pick the yarn at Rhinebeck last year in the Primrose booth. Im such a slow knitter, I’m hoping to finish for this year, but if not there’s always the pocket-a-along!
Love the blue and white stripes. Perfect for vacation wearing. It’s always smart to rip out and fix things when you are not happy. Safe travels Laura. You will not miss all this humidity
Laura, couldn’t agree more about Daily Pullover. Made mine in kettle (black) and wore it many times this past winter. I also love Jade Saphire Sylph which I used in my Shakerag. Thanks for inspiring me to use it again. It’s a real splurge for me but you made me realize that it’s worth it! Thanks!
Great podcast! There's a great article at Interweave about brioche vs fisherman's rib including drawings showing the subtle difference in the fabric. Google it to find it. Fisherman's is more beginner friendly and it's so close to brioche that only an expert can tell. I will be knitting the Gentlemen Cardigan for my son which is brioche knit flat. I'm totally doing fisherman's rib instead because brioche for me is not mindless. Have a look at the article and see what you think. ❤
Hi ladies - always fun to watch your podcast. I'm in Stowe, VT and I left my office in Montpelier early today due to expected river cresting in town...southern VT is getting clobbered, and it seems to be making its way north - Waterbury is starting to flood. I live on a hill so hoping we don't have too bad a time, but roads around us are getting dicey!
Kate did you cast on the number of stitches the pattern Renunculous called for. I see a lot of people complaining the neck is too big. I’m older and do not have the neck to wear a wide neckline 😅
Sorry for the delay, I “lost” your comment! 🤣 First note, I am using the original one-size pattern. I cast on for the wider neckline but did 70 stitches on size 8 needles. I used an alternating knit/purl long tail cast on. I hope this helps!
Love catching up with you! I’m currently working on a friend ti friend shrug for my sister-in-law and a Floodlight Tee by Tanis Fiber Artz! Safe travels Laura.

I have to tell all of you the minute I see your on I think, my friends are on and look forward to sitting and knitting while I watch you.
That's the highest compliment I can think of. Thank you. (Laura)

It’s been super humid here also! 🥵 Those are cute socks! Happy knitting and thank you for watching!
Great video ladies! I enjoyed watching! 🙂

I used to stuff my sock blocker into mittens before I got my mitten blockers. The leg end works well.
I love how your cherry sweater is coming out so beautiful! I am inspired to pick mine back up again
It’s so good!!

Thanks for watching! I misread patterns all of the time! 😝 Have fun with the KAL! -Kate

🤣 we can be Eldritch twins! 😍
Thank you for doing this. You are all so busy but still take the time to share your knitting with us, and a laugh or two too.

If you ever visit NEK (HARDWICK) stop in and visit the mill/shop! Esp during the yarn haul😊

Summer weather in Scotland is so much better for me!

Always fun to catch up with your knits etc. Hope we can get together for lunch in Aug. Might miss you Laura! Boo-hoo... Have fun and happy knitting!!!
Kim, thank you so much for mentioning my little podcast! I’m so happy you’re enjoying it. 🥰
Hi Ladies! Always so fun to see you! Kim your sweater is amazing!! Wow! Hope you all have nice summer, Laura, safe travels! Take Care...Marie
Another great podcast - thanks. I’m finally knitting Rock It Tee by Rains Fiber Arts. Been in my queue since forever.

Stay safe!!

There are Sewers out there…yes we are proud of being a Soooer. 😊
Love catching up with you! I’m currently working on a friend ti friend shrug for my sister-in-law and a Floodlight Tee by Tanis Fiber Artz! Safe travels Laura.
Kim-love that you’re sewing!!!
Laura, I would go ahead and knit that sweater. I think the motifs will show up fine. ❤
That's how I'm leaning now too. The fabric is sooooo good. Fingers crossed
Try Banksville Fabric in Norwalk. Really good quality.
Hat pattern - Hermes Hat by @sambaknits is so much fun and goes so fast.
Mostly spinning yarn, but working on Vibes tee by Tif Neilan
Kim, Turn-A-Square by Jared Flood.
Kim how about the Goobalini Hat. It’s on Ravelry 💕
Or a balloon that has this longer form
Just lay the mittens flat to block- no need for blockers
Will it work to soak then pin them out on a board with blocking combs and pins (after measuring your hand and thumb)?
Maybe 🤷🏼♀️
Kate, you’re welcome to borrow my sock blockers for your mittens🧶👍🏻
Yes please! 💕
Lay your hand on cardboard, draw it out. then put it in there.
Can not watch as it is too blury. This has happened a lot. Will pick up again when the quality is better. Sorry.
Sorry for that. We will hopefully resolve the problem next time.
