- My C3PO cosplay has gotten a ton of comments about claustrophobia and folks saying I must be brave to be bolted inside this droid. It is not like a pair of uncomfortable (but cute) high heels where I can take them off myself when they get uncomfortable. Inside of C3PO I am completely reliant on others to put it on and get me out, and it certainly can make you feel out of control. I’ve talked about the high trust environment that made this Cosplay possible for me, but I don’t think I’ve addressed the fear. I was absolutely scared to the point of nausea that first day wearing him and spent the entire morning with my stomach in knots trying to talk myself off the ledge. I am a big fan of doing it scared rather than not at all. The unknown is intimidating, but after that first C3PO suit up I was really able to embrace the experience and watch my fear fade away. Fear is not the voice of truth, and sometimes you just got to say “to heck with it” and do it scared!

It was crazy and it made such a huge difference having a high trust environment, knowing they would let me out when I wanted it. It ended up being such a fun experience!
Absolute props to you! I remember hearing Anthony Daniels talking about having only one panic attack playing C3PO...During ROTJ.... It sounded like he felt he was going to suffocate... Awesome costume too 👍👍👍

You can add a safety hinge pretty discreetly by modifying one (possibly more) of your bolts so you don't have to be stuck anymore.

Hey! It used to be really bad, but I made a habit of doing things that scared me anyway and it helped a lot! It was crazy to reflect that it doesn’t happen often anymore. Being bolted inside of this outfit was the first time in a hot minute where I experienced it again. It used to be that I woke up anxious and nauseous (on top of when I would do things that scared me), but not anymore. 😃
@@RGBrea If I recall correctly, it took ungodly amounts of time to get Anthony into and out of his suit for Threepio in the Original Trilogy. I'm sure it took up a good chunk of time for you, too.
@@yohumanfrisk I read about that in his biography and was stunned to hear how long it took, especially with his very first suit. I made lots of notes while reading and for my suit we had it at the longest 45 minutes to dress, but typically closer to 25 minutes for unpacking everything and getting it on. When I took breaks I would typically leave the bottom half on and relax having my upper body mobility back.

Silly question but would you be able to fasten it together with magnets? Or are they just not strong enough to stably hold the head in place?

Depends on what point in the C3PO timeline. I thought the same thing when I started him (and even painted a foot silver), but then I doubled checked and the version of C3PO with the red arm has two gold legs.

You make sure to go before putting it on. It also takes a lot less time to take it off vs putting on.
The only costume I've ever worn to a con was a suit of armour that required help to get it on and off, I ended up having a panic attack (unrelated to the suit) and having like 4 people rushing to help me get it off, con people are nice.
