There is nothing wrong with game looking like real life...when paired with great stories and fun game play...and diverse worlds...it actually add to the immersion.
Well, that presentation is good news for you then. Since most of the stuff devs took years to make are now automated by the UE5.4 engine. Unfortunately we all know how this ends up. Instead of using the time saved to actually work on gameplay, they'll simply release their games early
Am I the only one who would be completely comfortable with games not being so photorealistic, but instead taking less than five years to develop and having fun, innnovative gameplay?
There's a place for those visually simple games that don't take multiple years to develop, but I've been waiting more than 20 years for photorealistic graphics in games and there's no way I want to see the progress stop now that we're so close. Indie games can be less realistic, but AAA games should definitely aim for photorealism.
@@selohcin Tbf once Unrecord is released, the whole landscape is probably going to change. AAA games won't have their title stand for as long as they did a decade ago and these game companies will definitely have to take their games more seriously. Consumers are the reason why these companies are still standing, which is a shame because passion says otherwise, Unrecord and many other indie studios being the case. Let's hope Unrecord fulfils these expectations.
I was thinking the same thing. The characters shown in this vid don’t have that dead inside lifeless puppet look in the eyes like past reality based game characters.
It's thankfully better than the Metahumans when they were introduced. The facial animation is still kinda bad tho. I don't know how they would even fix that.
Around 40 years ago, games used to be pixelated, 8-bit and all... Now, the games have become something like this. Can you imagine how Video games will look like after more 40 years from now?
I don't think the concept of "video" will have much importance in 40 years, but I can see that we can be fully involved in games, I can't even imagine what can be experienced not only in terms of realism but also in terms of experience.

I work in IT as an architect within infrastructure and system design, but a completely different industry. And I always get amazed what the guys in gaming can do. This is some complex stuff, not just the tech which is amazing, but to be able from a process and project lead/tech lead view to be able to make this. Let me tell you, it's not weird it takes many years to create these but in a few years it will take less since the git of all that code can be reused, tanked into ML to learn and then just "upload" this into the next project. Fantastic work.
a guy like me, never used another game engine but Unity, kept himself loyal to it and swore not to leave it behind, sees this progression UE is making as trust-shaking lol. Damn.. everyday it feels even harder to stick to Unity seeing all this.. I mean Unity is great too and I give credit where credit is due of course but fr.. this is something else. Hats off. Now back to recompiling my empty Unity scene for 9885 seconds after adding 1 more letter to my comment in visual studio.
....still notice some issues in human action movements.. It's amazing how hard and almost impossible replicate the real human movements perfectly.. .so far..
Is not hard, is just that there wasn't any focus in it before, animating was all hand made, now its becoming more and more automatic, but as soon as it improves further they will probably hit an uncanny valley.

No, it doesn't look like real life. It looks like "movies" (and Marvel ones at that), whose look and style is what we've increasingly come to think of as realistic.
When i watched another youtube react to the Marvel 1943 ryse of hydra game i did not even realize it was a game and legit thought it was a movie only until the end of the trailer.
Incredible!! They have literally just solved the biggest two "problems" I noticed the past few month when playing high end games. Facial expressions were too often still wrong, now it looks close to perfect and also the clothing.. The clothing was in some games really well made, but at certain arm angles from the shoulder it could look very unrealistic and was always plastic. This looks just amazing
I grew up around Super Computers at Cray Research as a kid and now my phone has more computing power than those basements had. My first video game console only played Pong and the controllers were literally just a handheld remote with a dial. Then came 3-D. I can still recall how psyched I was when individual fingers could be rendered and hair was no longer just a solid shape. It's amazing how far graphics and computing power has come.
I absolutely agree... don't get me wrong i love games with good graphics... but playing a shi*ty game with great graphics is like dating a gorgeous woman with a shi*ty personality... it is only gonna be fun in the beginning.
So pretend a better console next time. Actually console based on crappy obsolete apu scAMD stopped the evolution of video games. In this crappy apu you have graphic or you have better gameplay. On pc with rtx you can have both and way better visual quality of games. Stop to be ign orant
UE 5.4 is amazing, really thinking about old days but still we need more for "real" reality maybe in molecule level. We need eye vision pixels for this we need quantum cpu.
I love seeing the graphics get this impressive bug the dynamic reactivity of the character on the world needs to improve with it to really make it seem real. Having gorgeous ground textures is great but it is so much better if you can see your footprints and hear the exact texture your walking on
When I look at what is being done with this technology right now, I can understand that our grandchildren will bring the virtual world to a completely different dimension of reality.
Dune could be a great VR experience. We'd fight with blades, fly ornithopters, and also get a chance to ride frickin' sandworms! That'll make for a solid Dune game.
Great job, this upgrade frees memory for other jobs, I hope they take a closer look at the physics of body motion and reflex, facial skin texture and shading, hen lip sync. We lld hope for these areas fixed in the next update so we can have a big leap to the next version.

Games like Lethal company proof that most people dont care about visuals as much. All visuals do is give you a quick "oh it looks good". But the true fun and value of a game are truly based on the gameplay

Yes, for now. Next gen games can implement A.I neural networks for movement and one day you won't be able to tell if it's real.
The only time I saw a game come close to reality is mgs ground zeroes and phantom pain.character models are insane for a game from 2015.
