i am def going to make one of these. you have inspired me to stop being afraid of denim. i cut up a bunch of pieces but have not had to courage to do anything. i do now, THANK YOU!
I used to make jean quilts back in the 70's made them for everyone. Ever since I have been saving all old demin I come across. Even got some new Levi fabric form the old factory. Time to make some more. Everyone that I gave them to still talk about them.
This was an excellent video to show quilt tying, which I agree is the perfect technique for such a heavy denim picnic quilt. Binding is also a great idea to do by machine with zigzag stitch. Thanks for sharing! ~Diana from Toronto
I made this quilt as my pandemic project! I couldn’t get shirts from the thrift stores since they aren’t open so I bought 2 double sized flat sheets at Walmart for the back. It worked great!
This is one I will have to try ... but ... I think I will start with a lap quilt. Embroidery is going to be on the quilt also ... that's my one vice for now.
Jo Ann McCraw, I have been thrifting blue jean clothes with embroidery already on it for a "crazy blue jean quilt for myself. I use to like embroidery too.
You could use batting if you wanted to. I like using flannel or fleece in this quilt because if you do use batting you are gonna have to put a lot more ties in it. On the batting package it will say how far apart your quilting needs to be, otherwise when you wash it all the batting will shift to one side and you will have a lumpy quilt. Thanks for watching
I am making my husband a denim quilt out of his and my old jeans and putting buffalo check flannel squares with them like a checkerboard. Do you think i need to use something to make the flannel stiffer? I have seen people do it so many ways and I just don’t know what to do. I plan on using batting and i picked out a fleece backing to use that matches the buffalo checked flannel. Thanks for the video. 👍🏼❤️
I'm working on this quilt right now. Enjoyed your tutorials very much. Are you still posting videos? I have subscribed several months ago but haven't seen anything new thanks again for posting your wonderful videos
I have a blue jeans quilt that has a tear in it. The jeans in question were worn more than expected. How would you go about repairing a bad patch in a jeans quilt of this sort?
well i would have to see your tear. But you could get a jeans patch and iron it over the tear or just put a piece of denim over the tear and zig zag stitch it on if you weren't concerned about seeing the stitches on the back. This quilt is pretty easy to remove the back and there are plenty of tutorials on youtube on how to repair rips in jeans. I have personally removed part of the backing, put a piece of denim underneath the tear and zigzagged around it, then sewed the backing back on. Yeah you could see the repair but the quilt was functional.
I'm totally serious!! I have another one all cut out, just need to sew it together. You know you had a Quilt coming your way!! LOL Just let me know when your free

I love using them because even though the denim is heavy, the shirts stay cool. I use my old one all year round!

Love this quilt!! I am in the process of making this quilt for my daughter. Was wondering why you use fleece instead of the quilt batting?

I would use some sort of fusible fabric stabilizer. A lighter weight would work fine. Mostly because flannel can stretch out of shape easily.

Yes I still am putting up videos. I did take a break for a bit but I'm back!!

What is the benefit of the zigzag finish?
Why doesn't anyone make the quilt larger, so no wasted time cutting batting?
