I think its an amazing choice! Just do not get scared if you feel like an outsider on day zero. Even with 3 caminos behind me it was strange joining into a group of pilgrims arriving from the Norte. A bit harder than the Frances, but its a distillation of efforts and vistas, no day without a view. (And it is never as hard as Camino Frances Day1 from SJPDP)
Hospitales is very advertised but I think way easier than SjPDP. SJPDP first day is the FIRST day. You are not really used to walking etc. Hospitales (as per main itinerary) comes after a rest day. So you really build into it, and you just fly up. Way down is harder but shorter. So its more about focus. OCebreiro was always easier for me than I anticipated. Simply just having walked so much till then (And I had a short day prior to the climb when I was struggling with health matters) All in all I think the Day 3 starting climb is the cumulative hardest, and the steepest bit was the climb into A Fonsagrada (if I recall). The Primitivo on average is harder than Frances, but SJPDP-Roncesvalles is the hardest day any time I do it.
Thank you for sharing. We enjoyed Hospitales. The day we did it was very cold and very, very windy.
Wow!
How about that Camino for my ever first Camino .. Looks stunning..

It is a great choice
How does this day compare to Day 1 on the Frances from SJPDP to Roncesvalles or the climb up to O Cebreiro?

@ Thanks, I did this Frances this year and just wanted some perspective on the Primitivo’s difficulty in comparison. Appreciate the reply.
It’s easier than SJPDP climb…
What time of year was this?
We walked in June this year 😊 are you also planning this Camino?

Eu ficaria com medo dos bois. Está muito frio? Em quantas horas fizeram esses 24 km?
It’s not as high to lack the oxigen, don’t worry. It took us like 8h
