Hey man Sweet ride ..any advice im doing the timing on my m54 anyway tips on keeping it at tdc i have a lighweight flywheel installed so it doesnt have a hole for the locking pin? Thanks Keep up the good videos 👌
The locking pin is for sissies. I've never used one, the crank shouldn't spin on you while timing. It takes a lot of movement to be even one tooth off, you would catch it.
@@OLearysBMW 😂😂 thats real ive seen your timing procedure you dont even use the kit , you an og man lol but im also asking so when i have to tighten the crank bolt how can i prevent the crank rotating 🤔
@@UC559 I use a piece of flat steel and bolt it to the back of crankshaft with two auto trans flexplate bolts. The steel then rests against the engine stand mounts while I tighten. There's also a tool made for it I believe. Either way, the locking pin is big g*y. 😉
@@OLearysBMW interesting im kinda having a hard time looking at the whole picture is there a guide link or website i can see this ? I dont wana take out the block to tighten the crank lol
Here's a question for you on an unrelated E39 headlights matter.... M52. Engine flushes. Where do you stand on them? Do, don't or other.....! Thanks! :)
Engine flushes, not needed. If you want a cleaner crankcase/valvetrain simply drive the car more aggressively and change the oil sooner a few times. If you're persistent on wanting to flush the engine, 1qt of ATF dumped into crankcase will aid in cleaning. Do not drive with ATF in oil, let engine idle for a good bit, then change oil. The first method of driving harder and changing oil sooner is more preffered in my opinion. I like to run an extra quart of oil in the M5x engine family at all times.
@@OLearysBMW Thankyou for getting back to me and letting me. I'd just been moving it in and out of my garage to do some paintwork you see and some water/mayogunk was on the oil filler cap. No flushes then!
@@YootubeUK That material you've seen is nothing more than normal crankcase vapor that has condensed. It normally gets burnt off with normal engine operation.
Please don’t stop making videos man your my favorite person for e46 information

@@UC559 I didn't realize the engine was in the car. You'd need the special holder tool or put the car in gear or something, mhmm
Thx
