Especially when they are not the original inhabitants of North America. The tribes we call native Americans are of a Siberian ancestor. The oldest remains in America were the kennewick man who is actually a Causcoid, ancient European. Recent studies even back up that a different population predates the tribes who crossed the Pacific Ocean on the ice land bridges. In many of their cultures, especially the earliest ones, they had stories of encountering “pale skinned goat eaters” when they arrived in America who they warred with and pushed North. As we know from our study of the Incans, some of pale skins went south and established many of the tribes along central and south America, with influence even among Gulf based empires such as the Aztecs whose founder was a Causcoid.

on some level I can understand it; its like a woman who always nags and provokes her husband for no real reason. She has a biological urge to periodically test his mettle and check to see if he has become more or less pathetic/useless. Thus, the more the husband offers no resistance and just takes her abuse, the stronger her urge to provoke him and force him to stand up for himself; women don't want pathetic and submissive men, nor should they.
I'd wager a BIG part of the reason these people have these beliefs is purely because they know they're not supposed to. On some primal level, they want to test the mettle of their society and see how pathetic and submissive it is. Well we've let them get away with their nonsense again and again and again and again, to levels no other society would even begin to tolerate: how can they help but keep moving goalposts? We've proven ourselves so weak and submissive to their insane demands, so unwilling to lift a finger in defense of our own values, children, property, and sometimes even lives, how can they not be completely obsessed with doing anything and everything to provoke a reaction? What fucking good are we if we can't even stand up to shrieking, insane manchildren whose power comes ENTIRELY from our unwillingness to just fucking say, "no"? Why on earth would they want to identify themselves with such a pathetic and weak society? Why not do everything in their completely unearned power to replace our weak and useless population with 3rd world patriarchs who will, at the very least, stand up for their own families and communities instead of wagging their finger as it all falls apart around them?
Western society has become an impotent, hen-pecked husband, and radical leftists are our nagging wife. She's a cunt, yeah, but she wouldn't even dream of acting that way if we just grew a sliver of a fucking spine.

Regarding the Topic of History being dragged up, People blamed/asked to pay for it who weren't even alive back then, i found there is a huge Double Standard among People and their Countries Bad Deeds in History and Bad Deeds of other Countries History, i recently noticed something curious
F.e.: I recently noticed that you find this also a lot among People of the American Right (at least Personalities) who usually have reasonable and logical Takes, but when it comes to this? Oh Boy
I found a lot of American Conservative Commentators who talk about how Slavery f.e. shouldn't be constantly dragged up and thrown at Americans. Yet at the same time i was surprised to see that a lot of them only believe that when it comes to Things their Country has done that was horrible.
They at the same Time (Now that all of the Holocaust Victims and Perpetrators are almost all gone) that this is a bad thing and how it's dangerous because it will make Germans stop being aware of what, and i quote "Their Relatives/Grandpas/Great Grandpas have done to Jews"
Apparently we Germans not born or having anything to do with that Time are likely to either not care about it or turn into Nazis if the Holocaust isn't the Top Topic of German History anymore.
It kinda shows the Double Standards sadly a lot of People have when it comes to such Topics á la "Blaming Slavery on Americans nowadays, or keep dragging it up and constantly talk about it in Public Discourse, Media etc. is a bad thing, People should not do that."
But when it comes to other Countries and their Population who had nothing to do with a Horrible Thing their Country did in the Past, you see the same People suddenly constantly want to bring it up, think it needs to be constantly hammered into that Countries' Peoples Brains, Claim that Country "wants to forget it, doesn't care about it" etc etc.
Whenever someone, even if i agree with them on a lot and share their Politics, shows a huge Lack of Facts and Logic and Reason etc. on just one Topic alone, i start to question their Authenticity as well as if they have any Respect for their Viewers & the Fact that they will notice the Double Standard
In the case above i was happy that there always were some Top Comments towards these certain Conservative American Personalities and how they didn't expect someone who supports "Facts & Logic and not Emotions over Facts & Logic" not applying this universally.
Was glad to see that they have American Fans who noticed the Double Standard and spoke out to them about it

I'm the child of a residential school survivor. And when it's said that the trauma reverberates down the generations I know exactly what that means. And I agree with you completely.
Since I first heard of the calls to cancel Canada Day I thought it was stupid. Canceling Canada Day would and will (since many communities did so) only upset people whom the First Nations' should be trying to get on their side. It's just ..., well, stupid. Yes there are bad things in our country's history. But there are lots of good things too. We should celebrate the good and remember the bad - so we can do better in the future.
So I thought a much better idea would have been to hold Canada Day celebrations and set aside 15 or 20 minutes. Invite a survivor or local chief to come in and give a short speech or personal story about how residential schools were bad, umkay. And then a couple minutes silence for those buried in the newly rediscoverd Graves, and then go on with things. This would inform more people without just poinlessly getting them angry at you.
But of course the leftist twitterauty won't settle for anything less then maximum negative impact. But the First Nations' leadership should know better then to line up behind those demands. Unfortunately it seems they don't actually know better.

FYI: "Aboriginal survivors of Canada’s residential school era have mixed emotions about the Canadian federal government’s November 23 decision to pay $2 billion in reparations to survivors. Although satisfying to some, the financial compensation has left other survivors feeling insulted, if not infuriated.
The unprecedented reparations deal includes a $10,000 "common experience" payment to the approximately 90,000 living students who attended the residential schools; an additional $3,000 for every year the students attended; nearly $200 million in funding for healing and educational programs; and the option of pursuing individual claims of abuse through the courts. Survivors 65 years and older can apply for an early payment of $8,000."
This was agreed on in 2006.

And this is my point too. Injustice at the State level cannot be healed with money. This isn’t wrongful imprisonments of individuals. It is badly considered public policy. It is an argument for libertarianism and nothing more. Even residential schools were entirely evil as an attempt to commit cultural genocide, the nation is not liable for those wrongs. Germans filled the camps in WW2. Are Jews able to keep asking for money from them?? Nope. They are entitled to remind people of the past... but I cannot be held responsible financially for the decisions of my forefathers. If I am, then I will do what I can to avoid that liability. And that means finishing the job of cultural extermination and that is NOT the ideal of nationalism that Dev outlines.

The cancel Canada Day movement is really stupid IMHO. I would rather celebrations were carried out as normal, but perhaps community organized ones took 15 or 20 minutes out to let a survivor or chief give a speech, or better yet tell a story about how these schools were bad and then a minute or 2 of silence for the recently rediscovered grave sites. It would inform more people, without angering themby taking away their celebrations.

As someone born and raised in the US. The South even. If a mass grave was found of dead slaves I think there would be at least some relief in being able to recover some that were never found and given proper burial. There has been a long, loooong issue of there never being proper accounts of who they were or anything about them and who these days they may have ties to. Families that have lived here so long but never knew who their ancestors were because they were never given the thought to record anything about them or even those that died at sea on their way. There's better ways to find out information on remains of both humans and animals and even things like rocks and other things in the world to properly date all information possible.
I'd have to say 'NO' to the idea of July 4th being cancelled. In fact if something like this was found around then or very recently, it should be celebrated as part of it. Having found a large piece of history that could properly be placed and recorded among the many other things we have to share our history. The good and the absolutely terrible things must be out there to show nobody is perfect but the perfect storms happened to somehow make things as they are today.
I'd be happy to say, if that mass grave was found that I'd be able to say 'You were missed. Welcome back and in a time where you can be properly be remembered instead of further hurt from what you passed. Your history has been sorely missed and welcomed to stand side by side instead of casually forgotten.'
Honestly Dev... asking about these sorts of things in other countries is kinda... not good if you don't really know what the feelings are or thoughts on these things as states. The South has a lot of need of recovering things that not only the past, but all sorts of terrible weather has destroyed and buried so far down that people desperately want to recover anything possible.

The fact you didn't personally attack native children has nothing to do with whether or not the Canadian state should compensate those it has abused. If the Canadian government decides, and it almost certainly won't, to compensate the survivors of the residential school system, your taxes won't be raised either way because the Canadian government does not really pay for thing with taxes anyway, but with a complex combination of debts, bonds, fiat currency and the like.

Here's my problem with the idea that we should just cash out checks to everyone affected by this tragedy: It may be the government of Canada that is responsible, but they are my tax dollars going towards any check that is being sent. It is not the people who are responsible for this tragedy who will suffer the consequences. It is the modern Canadian.
Let me be clear, I'm not saying this shouldn't be the solution. I think it may be the best solution out of a lot of bad options. But the Canadian government, as much as we would like to be able to hold it accountable as a distinct entity, punishing it punishes every Canadian even if we had nothing to do with the bad decisions it made in the past.
In my opinion, the people directly responsible for the decisions that caused the tragedy should be the ones who suffer the consequences. We're instead diffusing responsibility across the giant face of the federal government, and these individuals suffer no real consequences. It's not justice. It's just an easy way to appear to be doing justice.

The USSR was an interesting paradox. Under Lenin, the bolsheviks tried to completely dismantle all forms of nationalism, up until Poland demolished them and they realized that blind ideology wasnt actually as useful a tool to maintain cohesion in as diverse an empire as the USSR.
Stalin took this a step (or twelve) further by basically completely reviving the idea of Russian ultra-nationalism, just with the red star instead of the double headed eagle, in order to fight WW2, or the Great Patriotic War as it is known in Russia.
After Stalin's death, the communists took a kind of weird middle ground, they got rid of Russian ultra-nationalism again like Lenin wanted, but instead of becoming internationalist as Lenin and Trotsky had envisioned, instead simply replace it with a new, "Soviet" nationalism.
This is why Stalin occupies this strange sort of spot of admiration in Russian culture, he was the first time since the revolution that Russia itself was considered strong, and while Stalin was doubtless evil, cruel, and insane, he DID rally the Russian people against what was essentially an attempt by the Germans at mass ethnic-cleansing.

This works the same for people. You likely know people who only focus on their worst mistakes or errors. Do they grow and improve? Or are they miserable, and often make those around them the same?
What about those who've made mistakes, but focus on improving and their accomplishments? Not someone who doesn't believe they made any mistakes, but ones who acknowledge it but don't dwell on them?

Great video. I believe shared values are a far better foundation than a nation than genetics. Some people will value freedom, some equality. Some will value stability, and some will value change. There is no way to hold a nation together based on genetics with people of opposing values without using force and compelling the minority to submit to the majority, which will always end in war and balkanization eventually.
A nation based on shared values and mutual respect for those who may not share their values is the only rational choice for human freedom and prosperity.

I live in a bitterly divided country and get appalled when people suggest only splitting into ethnic states would guarantee peace.
Most people have no idea how say Europe also had many different 'tribes'.
The point about forgetting the past is so important.

@Pike Man Yeah but these kids were murdered and buried in unmarked graves... That's like holocaust levels of evil my dude. I don't know the full story here, I'm not Canadian, but if ever there was a legitimate excuse for, I dunno pumping the breaks on national pride, this would be it.
The 4th is right around the corner here in the states and if we discovered we'd raped, murdered, and covered the corpses in mass graves of over a thousand children... well I wouldn't feel very festive.
I'm not trying to say Canada shouldn't ever be proud of the good it's done, but, when you find out something this fucked up, maybe a little self reflection is in order.

Actually Canadian. And Metís so some of my ancestors treated other ancestors badly. OK. And both sets mistreated the mixed race ancestors badly. Under the left wing radicals we would simply cause more suffering. Bad things were done. An official apology was issued by the last Government. Are these pratices still happening? No. Good start. To heal and move past this let us who were neither perpatrator nor victims build the foundation of a new and better nation that never would allow anyone to be willfully harmed. To build a peaceful enlighted unified future. Accept and celebrate what we have in common and where we differ. That is the dream to fight for.

Here in Denmark a new word has emerged. Green Nationalism. It refers to people who just want to fix climate change instantly and won't compromise by using less than ideal ways to get there, but only their perfect idealized ways. Like, instead of making farms more CO2 neutral they want everyone to simply go vegan or at least vegetarian. They don't want more research into nuclear power but only into windmills and solar panels. It was kind of interesting seeing the word used by a politician.

The views that you quote are so very, extremely Parisian and upper class. The regional cultures of France were actively exterminated during the 19th and 20th centuries, and the resentment held in the provinces towards the capital over this is still very much alive. The rivalry between northern and southern France is still a thing as well. Segregation between economic classes was never really broken, even in the days of supposed universal public schools and conscription. WW1, the alleged "war of nationalism", was made complex because soldiers spoke various dialects, and some people (Breton and Basque) were explicitely sent to die first by the generals. By the way, the St Barthelemy massacre is also still taught in schools and while the Catholics would like to forget it, the Protestants won’t ever let them.
Accepting to melt into a national union is disrespecting your ancestors and sucking the cocks of the conqueror. It’s accepting the extermination of the losers and not daring to question the victor’s version of events.

Yeah. To this day, France is the only major European country that hasn't signed the European Charter on Minority Languages, because apparently it's "unconstitutional". As a native speaker of a minority language (I'm not French, but my native language is also spoken in France), it makes my blood boil.

The meaning of a nation's 'Day' was always to focus on the best qualities. Any negative incident you bring to the table is essentially irrelevant to it. Maybe it can be a bit harder to compartmentalize if something recent happened, but at the end of the day, it doesn't change what the nature of the Day is. And maybe you think it's stupid that it's so one-sided, but I think you'd have to be dishonest to pretend you don't at least understand the nature of it.
