Very funny scene, especially Lucy's interplay with Viv, not to mention her questioning herself on the stand. And die-hard fans like me will recognize that John McGiver, as the judge, played a similarly humorless authority figure to Lucille Ball's MAME when he was Mr. Babcock in that film many years later.

He also played Lucy's temporary boss in an episode in season 1 of The Lucy Show.
He also played a judge in the Marilyn Monroe movie she did with Dean Martin, the movie was never completed but 20th Century Fox finally released the scene several years ago.

It was filmed on 35mm film stock and if you get the series on Blu-ray disc, the restored version of the series, it looks absolutely stunning.

Don't get me wrong, Lucille Ball is my favorite actress of all time, but some of these Lucy Shows are not my favorites, like this one. The plot just isn't compelling enough compared to I Love Lucy. Does anybody really care about Mooney's dog barking? And some may find Lucy as her own attorney funny, but I think it veers toward silly.

Well, "I Love Lucy" will always be the creme de la creme of what Lucille Ball's talent could do when shown on television

The problem with The Lucy Show was the setup. We had Lucy and Viv, but not much of a supporting cast. Mooney was best taken in limited doses, and who else was there? So they started running out of storylines for that thin setup almost immediately. This episode is from late in the second season, and the show should have still been relatively fresh at this point. But it wasn’t.

@@jaredjlinden I always thought Lucy and Viv should have had husbands on this show, or at least steady boyfriends like they did during Season One. And once Lucy got her Gale Gordon, she kind of forgot about the kids. Once Gale joined, for a while it was just 3 main characters and when Viv left it was down to two! One of the main problems of The Lucy Show was that every single episode had to revolve around Lucy, whereas most other sitcoms focused on various characters.

@@rtususian The boyfriends could have worked. I liked Dick Martin as Harry, the next-door neighbor and occasional boyfriend for Lucy. I know they were reluctant to give Lucy an onscreen husband so soon after her real-life divorce. But yeah - Viv could have been married and lived next door. The kids were just props. Lucy and Viv didn’t have much of an onscreen connection with their TV kids - the ladies seemed more like babysitters than mothers.

@@rtususian Actually I loved The Lucy Show - after Vivian Vance and the kids left - many stars on the show: Jack Benny, George Burns, Dean Martin, Carol Burnett, Ann Sothern, John Wayne, Danny Kaye, Liz Taylor & Richard Burton, among others. My absolute favorites - Dean Martin, George Burns & Ann Sothern.
