My uncle had one of these. I loved playing it when I went to visit my grandparents over the summer. When you got past a certain number of levels, "Good" would flash across the top of the screen :)
I have this handheld. It was one of my most prized possessions growing up as a kid. I've played the Coleco version and I must say, I prefer this version alot more.
I know. Sadly most of my stuff was sold off at yard sales by my folks without my knowledge. I didn't care so much at the time but I'm really missing them now. That or I played with them too rough and broke them, or left them at friends houses.
I had one too and I loved it. This gives me a lot of nostalgia. I didn't remember that you could only eat the dots when moving from right to left though and I misremembered the "graphics" to be a bit better, hehehe.
I remember there being quite a few of these LED display electronics games back in the day based on coin op games, cool stuff. Nice review, bought back some memories.
Cool, that guy is going on 30 years old and looks brand new! Tomy, Mattel, Coleco and all the knockoff brands were the coolest thing back then. We used to bring them to school and trade each others games during recess. Still fun to play today.
We had one when I was a kid. The only difference I remember between the the amateur vs pro mode, pro had 3 ghosts, am had two. Also, as the game went on, it sped up with each new level.
Awesome, used to own this as a kid along with Tomy Tron and Tomy Atomic Pinball. Tomy made the best stuff. One of these days i want to re-buy all those toys. :-)
@kmment I remember getting this for Xmas '81! I played the hell out of it too. It's funny but it's probably better than Atari 2600 Pacman, lol. BTW, are you familiar with/heard of "emulation"? It's not only for consoles. Did you know that there are "simulators" for many of these little hand held, LED games? I have 1 for this TOMY Pacman game, & 100's more. They are pretty cool. Not as good as real ones, but better than nothing + still fun to play with.
I had one of those but I actually sold it a few years ago for like $120 on ebay, the person wanted it really fast for some reason and paid me for express overnight mail lol :)
The start up tune..I got this one Christmas was a bit disappointed because I wanted Galaxian .But it was really good game & quite expensive for the time.
Yeah it was called Munch Man in the UK as they didn't have the license here, it got leased out to another company that released one (possibly Grandstand). But Tomy is pronounced "Toe-Me" (Japanese company, weird pronunciation :D)
@kmment Yea? Cool! For some reason they tend to be a little harder to find than say, MAME, NES, Atari etc & other retro gaming ROMs/Emulators. In any event, I'm glad you found them. BTW, are you in other retro gaming/emulation? Like MAME, Atari, NES, etc? Some emulators have Kaillera Client support for online gaming. I am always looking for new people interested in playing online. Let me know if you're interested. Also, let me know what you think of the LED/LCD game simulators. :-)
I got it on Christmas totally never expected it!I went through 3 sets of batteries that day lol I'm not sure if I that's totally true but to this day my parents still say I went through 3 sets of batteries haha! Do you possibly know how much it cost to buy back then?
That thing uses 4 C cells? just this afternoon I was thinking that you don't see very many devices these days that use 4 C cell batteries. I like these VFD type games, it's just a shame I never owned any myself.
I had this game in 84 . It use to give off this smell after hrs of playing lol 😂 Another fun game was oil panic. Was great because you had the time and an alarm to wake up for school 👍
Hey NEStalgiaholic. So are you a total retro gaming "purist"? I mean, do you use any emulators, or strictly the "real deal"? Just wondering if you use emulators too & or play them online via Kaillera Client? BTW, I like you reviews. I prefer them to AngeryVideoNerd or whatever. He seems too biased against most retro games. I think because he's younger, & so he compares them to "modern" gaming. He can't really see them like a person who grew up with them, when it's all there was.
I also had that when i was a kid!! Golly, brings back memories! Awesome that you still have yours!!!!
My uncle had one of these. I loved playing it when I went to visit my grandparents over the summer. When you got past a certain number of levels, "Good" would flash across the top of the screen :)

What don’t you like about the Coleco version?
@@MaxOakland Noisy as hell.
I used to one of one these hand-help type Pac-Man games, brings back a lot of memories.
I remember a Magnum P.I. episode where he couldn't stop playing his toy pac man! right after that aired I yelled MOM!!! I need something!
Black on White, Season 3.
I got this by request for Christmas. I believe in 82 when I was 7 years old. I loved it and played it forever. 😅
I know. Sadly most of my stuff was sold off at yard sales by my folks without my knowledge. I didn't care so much at the time but I'm really missing them now. That or I played with them too rough and broke them, or left them at friends houses.

I haven't seen this in decades until I stumbled upon your video NEStalgiaholic. Good job. I have played the 81 tomy pac man handheld.
I remember there being quite a few of these LED display electronics games back in the day based on coin op games, cool stuff. Nice review, bought back some memories.
first video game i ever played. thank you for this
That thing was built like a brick house. How do I know? I used to punch the screen so hard whenever I lost. Never did any damage at all.
After level 4 the scoreboard flashes "G O O D"
Cool, that guy is going on 30 years old and looks brand new!
Tomy, Mattel, Coleco and all the knockoff brands were the coolest thing back then.

Still fun to play today.

I have an old Pac Man desktop game that looks like a miniature arcade cabinet, complete with two little arcade sticks.
That's beast!!!!!!! Im gonna look for that and by it.

The start up tune..I got this one Christmas was a bit disappointed because I wanted Galaxian .But it was really good game & quite expensive for the time.

My sister had this. Nostalgia can be a real bitch.
I still have mine ;) flipped it twice on pro.
I got it on Christmas totally never expected it!I went through 3 sets of batteries that day lol I'm not sure if I that's totally true but to this day my parents still say I went through 3 sets of batteries haha! Do you possibly know how much it cost to buy back then?
They sell these regularly on Ebay.
The device even kinda looks like Pac-Man's head, LOL!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH I've looking for this, so many memories.... Almost made cry. I remenber the tic tic tic...
That thing uses 4 C cells? just this afternoon I was thinking that you don't see very many devices these days that use 4 C cell batteries. I like these VFD type games, it's just a shame I never owned any myself.
Where did you get this?
I had this game in 84 . It use to give off this smell after hrs of playing lol 😂
Another fun game was oil panic. Was great because you had the time and an alarm to wake up for school 👍
My mom has this. She is nearly 80. She refuses to give it up
The Entex PacMan was a better game, but the Tomy design was pretty cool.
I had one!
o my god that thing looks like Samus visor XD
I've got one of these and would be interested in selling it. Anyone know how much they are worth?
More or less $20. Also I just replied to a comment that was made 7 years ago, yay me.
150
i have that poster behind you!!!
Pac man was always called Puc-man, but it was changed in NA due to fear of vandalism.
Had one of these only in the U.K. it was called munch man.
@gjc82071 cool thanks i found some :)
Cool! Had that one too, shouldn't have sold it, dammit...
The company name is not pronounced 'Tommy', the O is a long O...
I had this when I was a kid. I always wondered why it sounded like a frog trying to disarm a time bomb.
Nice profile picture, lol.

its pronounced "Toe-mee"
Tomy. Toe-me.
I prefer the plagiarism of the game : Puck Monster. This Pac Man game is a shit!!!
