You are caring, strong and positive which is incredibly inspirational, and I think many young girls in particular need women like you in their lives, whether that's in real life or online like this. I am so glad that you are influencing people over youtube etc. because we need your amazing and beautiful soul on here. I looked for a job that was right for me! I found one as a bookkeeper. Mimi, I got the job that I love to do and it comes with salary and benifits so that I can afford to take care of my daughter without relying on my exhusband. I am soo happy! MEDICATION CAN HELP..it saved my life. Don't put off medication, anxiety and depression are illnesses just like any other illness. Your brain is a physical part of your body and you must treat it that way. If I had high blood pressure I would take medication for it, regardless of the "substances" it put in my body. Why should you treat a mental illness any differently? Do what helps you, but there is absolutely no shame in taking an antidepressant.

    • @lavacd2061
      @lavacd2061 8 лет назад +13

      +Caitlin Burcham i totally agree with you. But should also mention that for high blood pressure well as taking medication you need to eat healthy and exercise. Same goes with mental illness, you need to think healthy, improve your lifestyle. It's only the combination that can give full cure.

    • @cdmickg

      +Lava CD definitely! Mimi's advice in this video is great

      Caitlin Burcham i totally agree with you ❤️
      I am on meds becouse my physical symptoms were so severe and persistent . But ppl sometimes dont get it , they think it only affects your feelings and your mind and your body is highly functional. But if you suffer from clinical mental illness you have to treat it couse holistic stuff wont help sometimes ... u dont treat Diabetes with the help of holy spirit but you take insulin couse your body cant process the sugar .
      The same it is with mental illness . Your mind cant anymore process your thoughts and feelings and the stress . This is manifested with so many health issues that people who go through severe mental disorder know it

      Meds are not always necessary and can really ruin your life. Without you knowing it

    • @QueenBee-tk3mq
      @QueenBee-tk3mq 5 лет назад +2

      Caitlin Burcham medications masks an issue not solve it. Mimi actually went and healed her mind without medication in a natural way. If you stop taking your meds today all your anxiety and depression will return. So it’s no good and also meds actually harm you in the long run

God was the answer and is the answer for everyone. talking with God every day when i would feel anxious knowing that God is with me all the time has healed me. let go and let God work. theres a message for every trial we face i dont wish i never experienced panic attacks Im happy I experienced them God works in mysterious ways and he worked through the trials i went through to help me grow. God Bless

      Hi lainey Im thinking of making some youtube videos to help people. My story is so long to share through typing. but to sum it all up I put my hope and trust in Jesus and he saved me he gave me life!
      The most important relationship for every one of us is our relationship with Jesus Christ. Choosing to believe that he is who he claimed to be-the Son of God and the only way to salvation-and receiving him by faith as your Lord and Savior is the most vital act anyone will ever do. We want life. He is Life. We need cleansing. He is the Living Water.
      Here is a simple prayer if you have not yet given your life to Jesus and invited him into yours:
      Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God, that you died on the cross to rescue me from sin and death and to restore me to the Father. I choose now to turn from my sins, my self-centeredness, and every part of my life that does not please you. I choose you. I give myself to you. I receive your forgiveness and ask you to take your rightful place in my life as my Savior and Lord. Come reign in my heart, fill me with your love and your life, and help me to become a person who is truly loving-a person like you. Restore me, Jesus. Live in me. Love through me. Thank you, God. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
      I hate seeing people suffer when they dont have to go through it alone. There is power in the name of Jesus to break every chain in your life that is holding you back from living an abundant filled joyful life. I share what I know because I want to help people. I love everyone and want everyone to know Jesus our lord and savior! king of this world creator of everything. Im not saying believing in Jesus will stop all struggles. we will still go through trials but with Jesus by our side we can go through these struggles with Joy and peace because God is with us! I pray you give your life to Jesus I know if you do Jesus will restore your life and bring peace and love into your heart. God Bless all my Love

    • @JuanMontoya-yz1uy
      @JuanMontoya-yz1uy 7 лет назад +7

      Amanda Avila I have my days also where I struggle with anxiety still but what helps me is to keep my thoughts on Jesus think about things that are worthy of praise! I like to put on worship music every morning and pray, sing and dance 🙌🏻 when I keep my thoughts on God he strengthens me and gives me peace💜Read Gods word daily, pray and sing God is present with us always he’s right beside us every moment there’s no need to fear anything. No need to gear the future God is there with us and the moment we’re in now God is with us he is in control of our life.surrender your day to him and have God take control keep praying till something happens God wants us to be persistent and build our faith💜 fear is from the enemy he wants us to feel down and trapped struggling. We have Jesus within us we are over-comers so if we have Jesus who could possibly come against us? No one and nothing! Keep that in your thoughts when and if you get a panic attack while you’re experiencing it just say I don’t need to fear I have the power of Jesus within me helping me overcome. And no matter what happens to me I’m going to heaven so I have no need to fear death! God Bless you!

    I am sitting in my car. Just got to work and I am so grateful you made this and that it spoke of non-prescription healing. I am currently on three medications to help me function. I woke up at 3:45 today and I decided I no longer want to have anxiety and depression and I decided I am going to start healing today. Thank you. I almost cried when you said meditation is not easy because I have quit on it because I couldn't calm my mind instantly. I seek quiet and stillness. The retreat you mentioned sounds blissful. Thank you so much.

    It's amazing how you overcame this. Medications aren't a solution but in some cases it is essential to go through the hardest stages. It is not about believing in it. It's science and it works. Of course the solution is beyond that. I'm really glad you could find you're way out. You are an inspiration.

    This was probably one of the most real videos anyone has posted and I have watched on depression and anxiety.
    However, I do believe that pills can be beneficial and that they're worth a shot if you're really feeling terrible. Maybe not for everyone in every situation but depression and anxiety for a lot of people is also an imbalance in the brain which is what the pills help with to fix and once the imbalance begins to be corrected there's a significant difference just in how you feel overall. It's not mind altering or changes who you are or things like that. If anything, they will make you closer to how you should be feeling again. A lot of people think that when they take the pills and they "feel different" it's the pills changing your mind and how you think... No, it's the pills changing your overall mood and just taking away some of the clouds that were once there. It feels "different" because things aren't as dark anymore. I know for me I would not be able to overcome my anxiety and depression with just seeing a therapist. For me, there'll be days when I don't even know why I'm panicking or feeling upset I just do and when that happens, that's when the pills are useful.
    No, they're not the complete solution but they definitely help in the right situation in conjunction with other things.

    I also loved the way you began the video saying to stop concentrating on the "Why" in terms of questioning why this is happening and then how you ended the video by bringing it back to "Why" but this time in terms of finding your purpose and why you do what you do. I loved that for some reason

    I can't explain in words how much I agree with your idea about pills. I hate it when people just advice you to take meds without trying to figure out how else the problem can be solved. You're such an inspiration to us, it takes a lot to share such personal information in public but hats off to yo for that. I've been having issues with being on the plane and I just got back from a long trip and told myself even though I love travelling, I'll stop cause I get too claustrophobic on the plane but honestly this video really helped, I'm gonna try the meditation.

    Hey Mimi, I have been watching your video's for a little while, they are very enjoyable! As a mental health practitioner I wanted to put it out there that Anxiety and Depression are different in their symptoms and treatment, though a person can suffer from both at the same time it is useful to differentiate the two. Most do not overcome or solve their mental health challenges but in time learn to recognize it in themselves and get better at managing it through their life. Just like meditation is a holistic treatment option and a wonderful way to maintain clarity and balance so is individual and group therapy along medication. The recipe of what will work is different for each and most need someone to help them figure it out. I don't like that our society provides medication at the first expression of emotional challenge as a bandage solution, but it does serve a purpose as part of a treatment when deemed appropriate or necessary. Often it is a long difficult journey to even accept that they have depression or anxiety. I wanted to express this so the way you shared your feelings wont perpetuate stereotypes that people have which increase their resistance to any treatment and instead continually suffer. In my experience many have strong convictions against medication and therapy but also don't have the discipline it requires, especially when they are depressed, to eat right, meditate, do yoga or even get out of the house for a walk so it becomes a catch 22 they get stuck with. Also, therapy is just like any other consumer product, many variables go into choosing someone or a structure. Often, I find that people need information and education on how to access therapy, make it work for them and evaluate the outcome. And finally, please note that there is immediate gratification that can come from opening up to someone and talking about your feelings but please don't feel that it is supposed to be helpful in lieu of "treatment". There are risks to doing that as well, if you don't get the feedback, help, or validation you need a person can become more and more vulnerable in their mental state and feel more alone. As friends and family we are not taught how to respond to someone who is really suffering or relate to what they are trying to share, much less know how to help them. You have a lot of courage putting your experience out there. What I would encourage people to do is to start somewhere, don't worry about the labels or if what you are feeling is depression or not. if you don't know where to start see if your doctor or insurance provider can help guide you by linking you with a Social Worker to discuss it with. I hope that you get someone invested in your care, but if you don't ask for someone else. There are many community agencies that can help guide the process as well.

    I watched this video once before. Now to think of it was almost exactly a year ago. Back then I didn't watch it so much because I was depressed or anxious but because I love hearing what you have to say. Today I'm scrolling through your videos trying to find this one specific again because I finally had to admit to myself how deep of a hole I'm in. I related to so much of your story especially the beginning. I also am a newlywed and just came out to my husband about my anxiety and depression. I'm so happy I did because I needed to finally admit to myself I needed help. This video gave me that reassurance of I can do it! I can pull myself out of this darkness so long as I work for it. Thank you Mimi. Sending endless love and gratefulness your way 💕💕💕

    I've dealt with anxiety and depression since I was twelve, and I'm going through a life change right now and although I don't feel it yet, I can tell it is coming. I just searched "How I got over anxiety" and this video came up. I am so so SO happy I found it. I haven't ever really consistently done yoga or meditation but from time to time I will focus on my breathing when I'm in the subway. This video is so informative and truly special to me considering all of your past symptoms equate to mine, and the fact that you got over it is pure proof that these things work! Thank you so much Mimi,

Many of us, including myself, have experienced something similar to what you are sharing. I got emotional watching this. How amazing is it to have just a love that supports you and can help you heal yourself? I feel the same way in my own life and relationship even on bad days to feel so much gratitude for all that life gives you even in the struggle. I appreciate uou and this video. You continue to be an inspiration in my life. The interesting thing is I found your videos in 2013 when I just was about to graduate college and just found meditation and ended up finding the partner I have now. At the time of all this your vids inspired me to dream that I can create the life I desire for myself and by myself with the support of others of course and I can say I am slowly but surely doing it. This video really saved me today. I’ve felt the lowest of lowest this week, I’m a stay at home mum with anxiety and depression and honestly? I feel like shit. I’ve had panic attacks near on everyday, crying at absolutely everything. My partner has been my rock and I’ve been so reliant on him at the moment. It’s hard to bond with your child when you’re finding it hard to bond with yourself, and these feelings genuinely terrify me. Everything you’ve said, has truly given me a different perspective in life. When you said to look at it as your body looking after you, when you said about these feelings are your body telling you that you need to overcome something. Those words really changed my outlook on life. I truly believe that time is a healer, and talking to people who’ve been through similar experiences really does help. Thankyou so much. I’m on the road to recovery. 💞

    Honestly Mimi and Alex you guys are amazing!! I don't believe I've commented on any of your guys' videos about this, but the catalyst that led me to get out of a long battle of depression was yours and Alex's videos :) I was 13 or 14 when it started and I finally can say it ended 4 months ago (I'm 19 now)!! I'm still analyzing it, but I've never been this positive or happy or productive in years!! I just wanted to say that my journey to finding how to fight the negativity started when I learned the word gratitude from one of Alex's videos 2 or 3 years ago :) You guys are like virtual mentors and I can't be more grateful for you two. I was introduced to so many great minds because of recommendations by you guys and after reading and researching and finally applying I've seen results that I've never felt before :) I lost my mom at 10 and when she passed away it's like I stopped living as well. A series of events took place after that. Those events dug me into a deeper and darker hole. To escape I used to binge watch tv shows and RUclips videos, never studied (but somehow made it to uoft) or interacted with my family and old friends. I realized there was no way I was going to end my life so I began researching about depression on my more upbeat days. I finally started applying various things I learned after going through one of the darkest depression phases I have ever been in. That phase happened a year ago. That was my last long depression phase. Then came meditating through headspace, reading the alchemist, watching Gilmore girls and finally realizing everything I actually have :) All of that plus wise words from people like Deepak Chopra and Oprah and journaling more than I used to, oh and moving into my own place alongside making slightly stronger connections with my family, I have reached to this point :) I'm 20 in February 2017 and I'm going from this person who's never lived before to this woman entering a complex, beautiful world 💗 thank you for all the advice you guys provide, I hope both of you know how absolutely inspirational and amazing you guys are 😊 God bless you guys

But somewhere I got lost again over the past 10 years, not in my work but who I am... I gave way to much of myself to a partner who did not give enough back. I'm slowly finding myself again and healing, yourself and Alex have helped me so much this past year, after your book advice 4 hour work week, I moved to sunny Spain the sun is a real healer. Thank you thank you thank you for making this video!!!!! I've been dealing with anxiety for 5 years. And I've done the linden method and it totally worked for anxiety but I still get overwhelmed with things. I feel like this will help me get to 100% instead of the 75% I am now. I want control of my life and live it to the fullest! And I resisted meds as well. I just knew that they weren't for me. Even though I had to go through hard times I didn't want the side effects and to be reliant on a pill. I'm glad I didn't succumb to it. I'm excited to start meditating and getting my life back! Thanks again! Appreciate you having the courage to make this video.

    Thank you so much for sharing this Mimi. I have suffered from anxiety myself, and continue to do so. It is very inspiring to hear how you overcame it all and your story shows that although we may suffer through dark periods in our lives, happiness is always within reach. You and Alex are truly wonderful people, and I aspire to see life the way you guys do!

    God helped me get my life back after countless e.r. visits of the same- panic attacks, anxiety, thinking I was going to die but He rescued me from the horrific pit. All I did was pray and trust Him with my life and what He was doing. Meditation seems quite empty compared to God's love. I got to pray to a real person and feel His presence that He was with me.

      Marlene S God's love and meditation are not exclusive. Faith in God also brings peace and meditation also brings peace through calmness in your heart.

      God is a real person???))) Really? lol Meditation is a journey into inner yourself. Religion is a journey into deceiving yourself.

    What's interesting is that I can see that all these things worked for you. I noticed in the past 1.5 years the difference in the content that you two produce that something internal changed for you all, especially you. You're blessed to have such a strong patient man in your life who is also extremely positive to be there for you while you worked out this transition. Thank you for sharing. ~Smile!

    Mimi! *We should make a facebook group for subscribers* to create a community amongst likeminded people and share our lives in there! Get to know new people, cultures and interests! Please I would love if you took the initiative to do this! I'm part of Mr.Kate's and Shamelessmaya's facebook groups and it's been amazing so far!
